The countryside surrounding Freiburg im Breisgau is lovely. My experience in Germany is much different than yours. I first visited a a tourist with my parents who had friends here, and I got to know their children. Inspired by that experience, I learned German in school and college, including a summer study program in Bregenz and a semester in Würzburg. As a student, I also thought that Germany was very bureaucratic and considered it a nice place to visit, but couldn’t imagine living there permanently. Back then, the internet was in its infancy, and no one talked about the digitization of bureaucratic processes. Years later, I would move to Würzburg to work and stay indefinitely. That’s where I met my wife. We’ve since moved to Nürnberg where I would become a German citizen. I’ve now been here for over 25 years and can’t imagine living anywhere else. Are you planning on staying indefinitely or are you going to continue your journey to other countries or return to the States? Greetings from Nürnberg.

It is nice to hear different experiences from others who moved here. Thanks for sharing your story, Rob. It seems you “fell in love with Germany” 🙂. For now, we are staying as my husband works here. Btw, we are not from the states, we are from the Philippines. 🙂 Thanks for watching. 💕

@@theclumsymisshome Thanks for that correction! I think that I just fell into my own misconception that expatriate RU-vidrs are from the States.

NIce, I like the style, although that fried porc (Japanese style?) looked too yummy : ) I am thinking of moving back to Germany, guess challenges are bureaucracy and 'finding an apartment'?

Hello, thanks for watching. Yes it’s japanese katsudon. Safe to say my son liked it 🙂. Yes, finding an apartment is also challenging in some cities.

@@theclumsymisshome Sorry, what I wanted to say was that your (young) son is developing good German skills and I hope he is helping (or correcting) you on your journey into German language 🙂

Ahh. Sorry, I didn’t get your question. 🙂 I have a son who is 8 yrs old and a daughter who doesn’t talk yet. So yes my son corrects us with our Deutsch and sometimes also serves as a translator which is helpful. 😃

I am as much in favour of public transport as anyone is likely to be. But the bit missing from your video is how does one get the contents of a weekly shop from store to home on public transport with any amount of dignity?
@theclumsymisshome
@theclumsymisshome 5 дней назад
Hi, for us since we do a huge batch every week, we use our old luggage and it helps that our pram is quite big so we have more space. It is common practice people carrying multiple bags in the public transport here. 🙂 Thanks for watching the video.

What do you mean by dignity? We carry it in bags and/or backpacks, some people (usually older) have shopping trolleys, basically sturdy bags on wheels. Some people have baskets also.

You’re an immigrant not an expat.
@robwilliams2410
@robwilliams2410 5 дней назад
I‘m confused. The two are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary, it’s not possible to become an immigrant without being an ex-pat. An expatriate is a person who lives outside of their country of citizenship. An immigrant is a person who has moved to another country to live there.

@@robwilliams2410To me, the difference is where you put the focus. An immigrant is somebody who made the decision to live somewhere else and integrate there, a refugees decided where not to live and an expat is somebody still kind of fixated on his 'old' country and complaining about differences. The Romans said "Ubi placet, ibi patria" (Home is where you like to be). As OP obviously likes it here, it is not EXpat but rather INpat or immigrant, their son already turning into a 'Zugroaster', somebody who moved here and simply has not gotten acquainted with all the local habits.
