It’s a good move for the wings and Simon. He can be the number 1 D man in GR instead of playing 10 minutes in Detroit. He needs reps. He will be great but he’s not polished yet.

I wasn't surprised by this move, the AHL will be a great learning experience for him. Also just look at the roster for GR - talk about loaded with young talent. The team will be expecting a playoff run and this will be an even better learning experience for Edvinsson, Berggren et al. BTW massive respect to Elmer Soderblom for making the NHL roster!!!

I’m all for this. I was hoping he’d land in GR. His game just isn’t fine tuned enough to play solid top 4 minutes in Detroit and I don’t wanna rush him into that. Can’t wait for your video about Soderblom making the roster though. I’m super excited about that

developing him is definitely a far better move for a player like him

I don’t see how Yzerman could make an incorrect decision here. Year one AHL, NHL, doesn’t matter in the long run. He will rise quickly. Edvinsson made far too many tactical mistakes to roster at the NHL level just yet, but the talent was so incredibly obvious that I don’t blame people for wanting him in the NHL right away. I think it would be different if he were a forward and rookie mistakes weren’t so costly; but you can’t have a D man making mistakes like that in the NHL. He has to have all of the basics down and Simon isn’t there yet.

I would've actually kept seider in the AHL for the 21-22 Season and in 22-23 he wouldve been a 70pt guy right out of the gate

Coach lalonde sort of alluded to this earlier when he said it’s not about making the team or not but what is best for the development of the player. Is it better to have top 4 minutes in gr or a bottom role in Detroit!

What gets me are fans comparing Simon to Hedman. No. I think an appropriate projection is Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Then fans were saying Edvinsson be the hardest decision for the final roster cuts, and I argued it was going to be Elmer Soderblom. Some fans.

It even took Seider 2 years so yes Simon needs time

Def send him to GR. He will get way more time down there to learn the new rink size, get used to the speed of the game and work on his game. In Detroit he was looking at what? Third pairing? Maybe Fourth line minutes? In GR he'll get a chance to play on a really good team and compete for a Calder Cup. He'll end up a great defenseman but lets not rush it.

It's in the Red Wings' culture not to rush their prospects into the NHL. I am sure that Edvinsson's development will greatly benefit from some time spent in the AHL. Now compare that to the Habs...
