And all of the Generations there since the collapse of coal stayed anyhow, knowing good and well there would be nothing for them after they graduated....Ignorant Folks. Instead of planning for an escape out of there and a better life, they just dug in deeper and doubled down on coal jobs that are never coming back... Keep drawing your Welfare and Food stamps why you gripe about Socialism....Dont pretend that you grew up not knowing this would be your fate if you chose to stay.
Beelzebob the innocent The politicians have destroyed the hope of WV. None of them have tried to use the beauty of WV. They steal and use their office to make themselves rich and WV remains behind in everything.
There are lots of programs designed to help former miners. Government subsidized programs. They don't take advantage of them, they just keep waiting for something that isn't coming back. Coal mining was a high paying job that required lots of risk, but no college education. Jobs like that aren't coming back. I understand not wanting to leave a beautiful state where you and your family have lived for generations, but coal was the only industry.
But they have been brainwashed into not taking no "handouts" when you say progams that's what's heard by many people. During this whole interview I have not heard the word nor did I see any BOOTSTRAPS laying around in the background. Isn't that the prescription for people in dire needs in murica? This trend that has been happening is mostly due to the advances in tech more so that it has to do with any political party. I'm from Milwaukee. My dad used to work in the auto industry at A.O.Smith big ass factory that employed a lot of damn people. Once it closed along with other manufactuing jobs those people had to "bootstrap" it. So I see the same thing here. Oh and Trump is NOT going to save you just like Obama didn't you move with the times or you turn into a NIGGA simple as that. America has NEVER had a problem of not giving a shit about poor whites. It's just that minorities and blacks in particular have been relegated to being a permanent underclass in american society for so long, that some people seem to forget that capital is an equal opportunity non fuck giver for those without it.
I lost my job on the railroad in Pittsburgh in the early 80's when the steel mills began to shut down which also hurt the coal industry. I went back to school full time and worked part time and had to relocate to Washington, DC. I had to adapt. I remember going home to Pittsburgh a few times when family members were hospitalized. I began to realize how many men were now working as nurses in Pittsburgh. Former steel workers went back to work and changed into careers that none of them could even imagine. Sometimes you just have to reinvent yourself. Don't wait for things to come back. Move forward!
I agree, this part of WV is beautiful and should diversify into tourism. Take some of the abandoned houses and convert into Bed & Breakfasts. Then, redevelop any existing hiking trails. If there are no trails, make some. Also, have a geologist point out any zones of semi-precious stones, and develop areas for rockhounds to collect .... Like they have in the Desert Southwest. Once that is done, make a play for motels and all other forms of lodging. This will lure the shopping centers to come back. Anything is better than sitting on your duff doing nothing. If you build it, they will come!
@@IjzerKeizer Oh yes they can! They can get together and sell off some of the town's unused equipment and property. There are all kinds of loans for startup businesses.
There’s a lot of potential in McDowell county. A lot of opportunities, but it’s not being used the right way. They depend on mining. They should depend on tourism, landscaping, renewable energy.
Raoul Radio those people can fuck off back to the past. the future is now and we do not need coal. if coal is what they know then they need to learn something else.
Suqq Madiqq Tourism? What is there to do? They don’t have national parks, places of interest, or the infrastructure to support tourism. Camping doesn’t bring in money. And what do you mean by landscaping? The vast majority of young people have moved away because there is no future for them there. Most of the towns are ghost towns. Drugs like crack and meth have decimated the population. This is the Information Age. People need an education to be able to lead a decent life. They haven’t adapted with the times, so progress has left them behind.
Steven H Not viable. Economies need a combination of agriculture, industry, and tourism to survive. WV doesn’t have any of these. When these economies collapse, people move to the big cities, usually out of state. The population of WV will continue to shrink as younger generations continue to see that there is no future for them there.
@@lessehead I am sure something can be done , a charity maybe a benefit festival? If I had the $$$ I would organize it myself but the people with $$$ just do not care, that's capitalism
These people are going to have to accept, sooner or later, the reality that coal is a dying industry--and if any politician tells them that trend can be reversed, he's lying. Their choices is simple: adapt to the future, or die.
McDowell County could have become a major retirement community with its large stock of empty houses, but they stuck there head in a hole and hung onto the empty promise that coal would somehow return. Today they have bulldozed and burnt up thousands of houses and most of the ones that are left haven't seen maintenance in forty years.
@Blondie053 Only thing is, while we allow them to divide us, blaming other groups, the politicians love it because we're too distracted to see them stealing us blind. The real enemy is corrupt, bought politicians, Wall Street, greedy billionaires, NOT minority groups just trying to survive like we are. WE all need to unite to have the power to fight corruption. Don't let Fox news propaganda divide us. We need to unite and fight. We have been robbed since Reagan and his voodoo trickle-down economics. Social programs, schools, healthcare budgets have all been cut to make the rich richer. I wish I could come down there to your beautiful country to have town halls and talk to people about all i have learned since I started turning off the TV and doing my own research. It would knock your socks off. Blondie, feel free to ask me questions, happy to chat.
I Love and Live in West Virginia. Near where I worked, the city put All their eggs in one basket. STEEL. The big wigs in Ny kept the workers pensions, cut health care and so much more. It has taken a long time to come back to normal. The good jobs now are Gas and Oil. I live near Pa and Oh. These nice ppl live in the heart of the state. They can't just work across the river in another state and most of them are alot older now. They can't work any more. We now have jobs in northern West Virginia, but alot of the younger ppl can't pass a drug test. It's so sad. I don't know what the solution is to help ppl in this situation, but to remember: Always rely on yourself, your ability and strive for the best for your family!!!!!! GOD BLESS ALL Instead of putting these fine, hard working and friendly ppl down, say a pray for their life to get better. I know they will survive, they are hardy ppl. Help each other, share what you have, come together to have more happiness. This could happen any where in the USA!!!!!! DIVERSIFY!!!!!
Working in gas & oil is bad for your health and it's killing this planet. WE the People must demand jobs in renewable energy where you don't get Black Lung and cancer because of your working environment. There's a guy name Nic Smith in your parts who's woke, He gets it and understands the lives of coalminers, a true hero of mine. Try to look him up and listen to what he has to say. I would love to see Nic Smith in office.
I do sympathize with these people. I grew up poor myself. I finish high school and have tried to work as hard as I can. All I can say is, it has only been one year. Do they think things will turn around in one years time?
@El Tigre hahaha what complete and utter horsesh!t. This is what happens when democrat run media is allowed to lie. unemployment was actually UP 19%. The left only used numbers from specific areas. Some went up and others crashed drastically. Democrats are and always have been economically illiterate.
That's the trouble, good, decent people, working hard all their lives and not even living wages, no raises since 1987, much less decent retirement. We have ALL been screwed by crooked, corporate politicians for a very long time. WE need to join together to fight Wall Street, greedy corporations and billionaires, the ones who've been robbing us. WE need to fight for our rights to full healthcare, living wages, retirement benefits, childcare, free education. We need to stop these endless wars for oil and stop giving welfare to defense contractors. More info if anybody is interested...
@@stillthepillar684 funny how us dumb old dumbocrats are the wealthiest of the two parties. Must be due to wasting our money and hard work on a higher education. And yes, I grew up dirt poor in the rural south but chose working my way through college over blue collar jobs like the rest of my kin. By the way, I assure you; you know nothing about economics
@El Tigre President Trump did way more than obummer did. Stock market crashed in 2008-2009 because of the housing market, interest only loans caused that. When he left office the market was 18000. We have to stop baili g the banks out. The banking is the problem. Obummer had to many regulations and took jobs away from Americans. Bush was a bad President alsowith what he did.bad policies. President Trump's 2nd term you will see Nesara come into play. Abolish the irs, no more taxes. Look at nesara on youtube through pimpy investment chat.
So what you're saying is people in West Virginia are not Native Indian? Weird, I didn't know I wasn't supposed to be born and raised there. Guess I'm the only Shawnee to come out of those hill.
@@martadolls that depends on what tribe you are from. Many Native Americans get absolutely nothing some may get $20 a month and there are some that can get quite a bit. But there's really only a small group that actually get a decent income from casinos and it's because of the specific tribe
Why is it that it feels like there's a game being played anytime you watch a video about a city or a county or group of people that have been disenfranchised? Every time I go into the damn comment section there's always someone trying to win the victimhood Olympics. Can we just for once listen and concentrate on people in the video they are showing instead of this explosion of other people. Right now this damn video is about an entire County of coal miner's whose lives have been disrupted because of the shutdown. And I knew the minute I scrolled down into the comments there was going to be someone who had to start talkin about some other poverty. I am so sick and tired of people trying to compete for who has it the worst. It's sick and it's twisted. Do you guys get some sort of kick or adrenaline rush or high out of trying to out poverty the next group? It's like the fucking oppression Olympics it's ridiculous. It's like when people bring up the Irish slavery and then everyone has to go off about how other people slavery was even worse. Just stop! First of all this video is about something happening right now at this very moment but can we please stop bringing up past atrocities done two people that haven't been alive for a long time? You don't hear the Sicilians complaining that they were part of the Jim Crow laws. They were segregated too. And yes history tries to hide it but they were lynched as well. And unless you research hard I'm not talking about the nine that were lynched over a rape case. I'm talking about the many many people that were lynched that nobody heard of until you actually dive into the records. My point is can we try not to keep doing the one up thing? Just stop. Seriously stop it's not cute.
Tony Garcia there were already a lot of replacement plans but these people wanna hold on to their jobs.. even though these same jobs are keeping them poor
World wide it's an issue. I live in Australia but most jobs here are same as yours, outsourced. The vast majority not the remainder of jobs are all contract or part time . The good ol days of full time permanent jobs with benefits are long gone. Scary.
I live in WV and I agree with the last guy. Also I didn't vote for Trump. I think he said what he needed to say to get elected. But if he would prove that wrong I would be one of the first to cheer him on.
My husband was born and raised in McDowell county and we still have family there. The best thing that McDowell county can do is go after tourist dollars. That's where the money is. They have the natural resources they just don't have the infrastructure needed to support tourism. It's a beautiful place and I hate to see it the way it is today.
You hit the nail on the head but all those people complaining would have to find something else to complain about. The reason America is the way it is is because they see some rich guy helping so hate him for that and whatever he does after that will never be good enough. Those people need to learn to see the future and start to improvise. But hey its easier to complain and blame, sadly those people will just be those people.
I would hate to see it become a sprawling urban metropolis. Keep the small town americana vibe going. There isn’t enough of that around and it has a sort of idealistic romance.
Chris Sagredo you don’t have to turn it into a city to benefit from tourism. In fact many people would visit because it doesn’t look like the cities people are so use to by now
There is small scale tourism there. The Hatfield/McCoy trails and some camping. But there is no interstate going through McDowell and no national motels. Neither the state or the feds have done anything to really bring in jobs. Sen. Manchin is no Robert Byrd. There are hundreds of empty manufacturing facilities around the state where corporations have come in and left. They need to take advantage of the political situation and bring in businesses that are no longer wanted in "blue" states with incentives to stay. The state could also create small scale job programs for those who are not seeking high tech jobs elsewhere. There are a number of colleges and universities in WV. How about recruiting them to encourage their students to create start-ups in WV in seed money and spaces. The state is badly lacking in broadband, which makes it difficult to attract businesses. Maybe an investment in Starlink equipment or mesh systems could help improve access. It all takes money.
Granny always told me that being poor is no excuse for being nasty. Soap is cheap! Also, for the love of God why keep trash and junk around your house!?!? I live in WV and I can tell you it’s one of my major pet peeves!
Nathan A if half the nation still used VHS tapes there would still be a market for them, But there isn't so there can't be too many people who are still using them.
Kevin Huang It’s an interesting idea , and that’s what needed. New ideas, to bring ppl into the town. I see people working to make ends meat ... Waiting on the coal mines. They have amazing stories, that will die with them. I think having that history preserved is important for historical purposes, but has to become a part of the future in a new way. Ghost towns, seeing grown men that have many hands on skills , just wasting away is sad. Here in Connecticut, most of the young men have no hands on skills. I need my uncles from VA , to come help me here in Connecticut, with my car, my house maintenance... easy fixes - BUT nobody knows, how here!!!?
My grandpa and dad both worked in the mines and they told me when I was little coal had been declining for years theirs other forms of power this isnt 1820 anymore things change
The thing you don't understand is these people just want to work at a job in their County. Yes, coal is not as popular a fuel source as it used to be, BUT it is still used. So why not let these people work? To that guy who said Trump was not like them, he's a billionaire and we have to work everyday, how would Clinton have been any different? She's nothing like them either. It came down to her saying very publicly that she would shut down every coal mine, and Trump saying he would get them working again.
I think they know as well as you and I that their town/county will never again be as vibrant as the pictures showed at the start of this video, but the 1st guy she interviewed said they are making the changes to learn about new cleaner sources of work that their forefathers/politicians didn't pursue many years ago. So, change is coming. It's inevitable. And the working generation will grasp new ideas and grow with whatever new technology comes their way. I once heard solar power and wind turbine power have looked to them. I know a couple natural gas guys working here in upstate Pa. that say the companies they work for are 'looking back home' for natural gas. Maybe they'll find it.
Hillary's statement was taken out of context by Trump. She said she WAS going to put these people to work - other work. But she also said that coal isn't coming back, which is honest. But all these morons took away from it was that she thought coal was dead. So if you can't even listen and use your brain, maybe you aren't meant for anything in this world. These people need to stop blaming politicians and the rest of the world for moving forward and start to consider what they have to offer, which is not much. Most of them can't even read or write. Maybe that's the number one thing politicians should work on: education.
You are full of foolish liberal toxic tree hugger poison funneled into your head by the crooked left. The foundation of this community is COAL. Coal was the backbone of this community. Why destroy it for appeasing all of liberal google, facebook, solar, green new deal baloney that destroyed many communities like this across our country IT TAKES MORE THAN A YEAR TO SEE RESULTS YOU RATS WHO FORMULATED THIS SPIN ON ANTI TRUMP SLIMEY WITH YOUR LIBERAL SOPHIST AGENDA COMMENTS YOU INTERJECTED INTO THE END OF THIS VIDEO. cant take all the low-skill (low education) jobs out of the country and expect people to prosper. inner cities suffer from thr same problems as those in appalachia. these folks are hard working. they need to think about tourism. clean up their lawns and turn their downtown into a tourist destination. there are plenty of natural areas for people to visit.
Tragic that these people ever thought that a silver-spoon who uses a gold toilet was EVER going to represent them. And in 2019 still has built no wall, did not repeal ACA and has lost coal jobs.
mike5556 ...& What group of politicians SPECIFICALLY has opposed building a WALL, or ANY other improvement.... OH that’s right they are called DEMON_RATS: Tha Jooz, Chuck U, Feinstein, & Ma Pelosi are ALL for: Tax reform, rising employment,
Sorry DM But has he built the wall, Repealed ACA and added coal jobs? And why were obstructionist politics 'OK' when it was against Obama? Perhaps Democrats feel it is their duty to make Trump a one-term President?
All three of the coal people said that coal industry was improving under Trump even the guy who doesn't like him had to admit there are more jobs in the area.
Pushing 30 I remember Obama’s campaign promises in 2008. You want to talk about slick salesman?! Obama was all for “clean coal,” before he tried to unilaterally kill the industry with his executive orders. Beyond coal related campaign promises, Obama the candidate was not Obama the president.
No one can reanimate the coal industry, the progress takes other direction- clean energy! The government have to find the way to put this people to their dignity with new jobs, make condition for growth of small business , attract investors to this land. But now it seems the officials are not care about this situation.. Sad!
Not enough sun to make solar work. Not flat enough for wind. So you stick up the windmils. Where are the jobs? Solar farms How many jobs? 1967 those people had strong families, strong communities,, strong churches and they cared for each other. Poverty was declining. 1968 the givernment went to war against poverty. Poverty has increased, the government programs destroyed families, communities and churches. And when coal started failing the peoples normal support system was gone. Killed by the Great Society programs of the Democrats.
@@ronaldstaples5752 i remember before and after 1968 the " Great Society" in fifty years that program destroyed families, communities, created the disaster that the inner cities are. I live in Windmill country. Flat, steady breezes but nobody working. You put up windmills in fields and once and a while a windmill wrangler with a 2 year degree does maintenance. They cost more to maintain then their supporters admit for the amount of power produced. You Ronald believe a fantasy.
West virgin is s beautiful state the problem is the vast number of working aged people are uneducated or are on drugs. I lived there for many years and the few that are educated and clean leave WV because they can’t find jobs that pay them a decent salary to survive.
@@kteka9265 meaning people do not want Gods help. Some do need Gods help. Psalms 20, is based on God hearing your cry for help. Also to hear ones desire for answered prayers. May the God of the highest heavens hear your cry? Do you not even read or know the bible. When someone says "May God hear your cry" only those filled with the spirit knows the heart of another's prayer. Without question. Again, may God hear the cry of the people and deliver them from their distress. Amen
A lot of false statistics on this doc. It was NOT the demand for clean energy that hurt our coal industry. Most companies would rather not pay the cost to make the switch. Its not financially viable yet and Obma SOLD OFF a huge chunk of that industry to India.
If I had the money I would make that town the best mountain retreat and the people need to know someone cares. But with that being said it seems like good fishing hunting and who knows the adventure u could have in those there Hills.. people make sense of who we is as a people.. government never created jobs we the people do n now overtime we think a super man in white house can change things.. I believe so but that's the last thing in any president head once he comes to office
Chosen Dobbs America needs more positive, inclusive, constructive comments like that. One of the problems in 2016 was the quality of BOTH the candidates.
Eco-Tourism has saved many towns from doom and gloom but some States and cities just don't realize the economical potential. I also wanted to add in that the folks who want Eco-Tourism in their towns must also change their views of folks with different backgrounds, culture and skin color (unfortunate but it is reality even in the year 2018). They have to accept change in order to succeed. I live in the South and I to hate say but this there's an old saying out here "Just because you can go there doesn't me you are welcome there".
This is a good ideal Let the townspeople together work on fixing up some homes as B and B's. use the free internet to advertise how quaint, quiet and beautiful it is, how much of a peaceful getaway it would be. Nothin' fancy, just natural beauty. All peeps really want is decent bedding and clean. Maybe then with the tourist $, new cafe's could open. I know it's fighting depression all the time, but you have some of the most beautiful scenery. If you have a river, kyaking, inter-tubing. (BTW, the internet belongs to ALL of us, the American people paid to develop it.)
Yeah, good hunting, but the creeks and rivers are badly polluted from acid run-off from the old mines and the homes and towns are on the creeks and rivers as that is where the valleys are and the only semi-flat land, which means that ancient, leaking septic systems are dumping right into the waters. It doesn't help that this occurs all over the state, plus people have also used the waters as dumps. It will take a massive, multi-generation program to turn things around and the will is not there outside the state. The conditions in almost all of our major cities is horrible and will continue to decay under the morons in charge. Even if you cleaned up Welch, the rest of the county is in the same fix.
Remember you need coal for steel production. With the tarrifs coming into effect and steel production moving back to the USA the demand for coal will rise. Its not always about energy.
I've never even seen a lump of coal, nor do I want to. Old world low tech. It's never coming back. The peaple there just need to sell and move away to Dallas or Chicago or something. If not for themselves for their children.
No, its not wrong for these folks to talk coal.....many nations overseas STILL demand coal, and will for years to come. Pipe dream to think fossil fuels are all in the past, try living your daily life without gas, electricity, water, etc at a decent price....must be cortez relation.
Are these people serious? Obama was and still is so disrespected by these folks the names and insults towards him and his family were very vicious and cold so it really astounds me the female who claims she is 60 years old and had not seen any treatment like she has towards Trump. Sick... They soon forget. Backward and lazy people blame others for their plight, that is what's happening in America today- Had it too good too long and instead of understanding and adapting to the measures put into place by the Obama administration they sit stubbornly harping back to the good old days and how Obama ruined it- In 8 years??? The entire world is moving at such a fast pace towards cleaner energy while these conjurors like Trump fool the likes that we see here... History would show them both as the fools they are...
Obama was a traitor to America. There aren't enough words to describe what the man did to hurt these people. All he cared about was the Muslims and forcing refugees on US. You can't defend the sorry creep.
Marta you are the sorriest excuse of a human being, you are nothing but a damn sheep and you and those people would vote for anyone who clearly can't even deliver what their campaign is based on just because they are the right skin color.
Obama was just a other puppet president. more eloquent than most, but still a puppet of wall st and the rich. He did little for black america or the poor. Hope and change was just hope. no change. Sadly I suspect Trump will be the same. He's filled the whitehouse cabinet with more greedy billionaires and is surrounded by institutions and lobbyists that only know wars, greed and corruption.
He has given HOPE....something that this Country is in dire need of ! My Mother was born and raised in West Virginia and her family were Coal mining folks who were some of the hardest working, God loving people on earth....Mom passed away this past year and the memory of the stories that she shared of being brought up the era of after the World War 2 , the struggle with hunger and lack of basic clothes and shoes on their feet just to be able to go to school were painful memories,Mom carried out for the rest of her life . HOPE IS...the promise President Trump has made and let's all Pray that soon those mine's will again, start running over with jobs for every single person who is in need of relief. May God's love and blessings rain down for you beautiful folks in West Virginia !!
Yes, she never saw it before because she didn't want to see it. She's owned the shop for 21 years and NEVER made more than 16,000 dollars but I bet she thinks that's Obama's fault!
REALLY Toni? Nothing like this........I guess you've forgotten when it was said (and still being said) Obama wasn't born in the US.....or when Obama was called a liar by an elected official......or when Obama was called a dictator, a traitor, a communist, a marxist, a socialist, compared to hitler, called a monkey.......I guess the disrespect of former President Obama (in your eyes) was NOTHING! The example America is setting for it's youth is really TERRIBLE but please don't act like the disrespect started with Trump. Americans are very petty, like gangs......(Red/Bloods)Republican/Conservatives felt like Obama was disrespecting them so they in turn disrespected Obama and now (Blue/Crips)Democrats/Liberals feel like Trump is disrespecting them and in true petty American fashion are disrespecting Trump. TERRIBLE.....is seeing that Conservatives and Liberals....basically want the same things, just go about getting to end objective in different ways. NEITHER side can see the forest for the trees and Neither said is willing to COMPROMISE
agree wholeheartedly with your last paragraph! No, disrespect did not start with Trump but the calumnies about Obama were mostly restricted to the Internet and attributed to kooks. Trump garbage is all over the mainstream TV and papers and 'Net with movie stars and influential people weighing in as if they were diplomats. It is reported as if these people are authorities and experts. To permit disgusting thingstobe said about a president is disrespectful TO THE OFFICE and should not be taken lightly. Final point: because it was done to other presidents doesn't make it right. You can't have it both ways
These people are living in an alternate reality. They need to find other trades because coal is dying. Not from politics but from economic pressures from the gas industry. Owning a horse farm when Ford came out with the model T comes to mind about their situation.
Oh, well great. You solved it. Where are they to get to learn these trades? They don't have a school system complete with a votech program teaching trades, that they then have to move away from home to work at. Maybe you will come up with the money too.
This is so sad for these people. Is their governor bringing more businesses to their county? If I was their governor I would focus on progressing this particular county with different types of businesses and training these citizens with skills to succeed in a more progressive world.
I don't care how poor you are, you can ALWAYS clean your property up. These people living with trash all-over the yard, grass up to your knees, living like neanderthals!! Don't give me this crap about "they don't have any money to cut the grass". When I was a little kid, I watched my father cut grass with a pair of scissors, down on his hands and knees!!! My parents taught us to take pride in ourselves, no matter what the conditions were!!!
Although coal is used less in America, many other countries use coal daily. As long as other countries need coal, we should produce it here to ship overseas!
Hey these coal miners, do you drive a car? Do you have a refrigerator or do you still use an ice box? What about tv or do you only use a radio? Times change. Industry changes or become obsolete. You cannot put your faith in a dwindling industry.
the biggest problem even if the coal industry was to make a comeback the jobs can be done with remote control vehicles so how many jobs do people think will actually be available ? Natural gas is way to cheap no way coal comes back
areas like these were built from and boomed from the start of ww2 . Ohio is the same massive factory's shutdown and sold that were once the heartbeat of the military.
Sad, very sad these fine, proud people will never get back to a standard of living they once enjoyed. I lost an excellent manufacturing job in 1981. I was forced to find a new way forward. Luckily, I went to a local community college and learned new skills which allowed me to find a better life but I lost four years of solid wages before I climbed my way back. I believe we all forge our own futures and I sincerely hope the fine people of WV find their way back to prosperity.
Obama, just like Hillary, said we are going put them out of a JOB...! Trump has began to eliminate Coal regulations. Now you list one thing Odumbo did for them ..??
Bush and Obama destroyed America. Trump promised change well change take time. Change will come for all of us it's never fast enough so i understand there disappointment. President Trump is the man to get it done if it's meant to be. I pray for America to get back to good health and Happiness. may we all find the jobs we so desperately need!

16 Thousand dollars that's all you in your printing shop! Close the doors work at a grocery store and get benefits with a 401K. I'm sure you don't have a retirement plan or insurance. Do you need medication? If so how do you pay for it? Omg this figure just blew me away. Yes you Miss are way below poverty level. You are right there living with the poorest folks in an inner city housing project. That's just shameful you bought a dream. What are you going to retire on? My purse and shoes I had on yesterday cost more than you make in a year. I hope your personal life is happy and you pray. You're going to need it for your years to come.
That should be of no surprise to you at all. Poor people in urban cities are making even less than that. She did say that the shop takes care of itself though.
DO YOU KNOW how totally ignorant you look when you say things like that? Who gives a flying crap what your shoes cost? Only you and your shallow friends. Take a freaking step back and start looking at REAL life, cause you're one of the problems in this country. Judging folks by what they have in material things just makes you one of the poorest people in the country. Wake up!
Andrew Yang 2020, these people will all get $1000 a month, if joining up with neighbors, friends or family they could get back on their feet and figure out a way to go forward. He also is creating a plan to help people move state to state so they can move to areas for work. He is the true hope of the future of the average American.
Donald Trump maybe a billionaire but you will find he works harder than most and hes in his seventies. I ask myself why should he work if you cant recognize he is doing it for you and your country, Things take time and your time will come. If your that unhappy go meet the man and put your point across and the solution you may have to better it at least he would listen not like the idiots that have control over your country since JFK apart for Regan. The American people will one day soon and look back to realise that if Clinton got in you and your families would have had no chance.
It's been less than 18 months since Trump was sworn in. Noticeable change does not happen that quickly. Check back on McDowell County in 2020 and then judge Trump and whether his economic policies have improved the lives of the residents of the County.
El Tigre OH NO he won't. He has Secret Service and private security to safeguard his life. He's done NOTHING to be impeached for. Besides Impeachment will not get him out of office. Read some books and pay attention. You will be looking at him for another 6 years.
If, I could take a Vacation, I would come here, to see this Beautiful Country and spend my money, with my Neighbors who need it more . God Bless America, Support your Neighbor.
Everything looks clean and well cared for for a poverty stricken community. Los Angeles with all its money looks worse. They should open it up for tourism...its so beautiful.
The saddest part is that the people who live here know how unreliable politicians are at taking responsibility for them. But they still take hope in deifying politicians and refuse be responsible for themselves. This is why people need a more reliable education system, so they aren't left vulnerable when the jobs disappear.
We live 2 hours away from this county and we don't even talk about coal, there are strong Trump supporters but the middle of the state (where charleston is) and coal is rarely brought up ,, we just got a realize that coal is running out theres no more demand for it so we need a find something else .
We're selling it to 29 countries, including India and China. We are opening new mines and reopening old ones. Coal is most likely not the best bet for the future but it's not ready to die, yet.
@@angelahale7914 Oh and by the way, doesn't that cause black lung? Where It kills you. So yes, of course continue to work a job and want the same job that's eventually going to kill you. That's real smart.
With all due respect to the Democrat gentleman towards the end who said the people here ‘have to work, Trump doesn’t- because he’s a billionaire’... exactly! Trump doesn’t HAVE to work. I’m sure most people his age would rather be taking it easy in retirement. Trump is President because he knows our country was going down the wrong path and he loves this country. Same for the people who elected him. We just want to get back on our traditional course of prosperity- for everyone. If the past is any indicator, nothing unifies a country like prosperity does.
there are no jobs and there is no money. once the coal industry dried up that area, the appalachians, was economically devastated. this is not the only area in the US that was devasted by the end of the coal boom, but it was hardest hit. I am retiring this year and moving from IL to eastern TN/KY to do mission work. my heart goes out to these people.
For those who don't know, coal still runs our 40% of our electric. Even many coal fired power switched to natural gas but there is 1 coal fired power plan being built in China every week. Every one thinks that solar power is the future energy, there is no doubt about it but the solar power is heavily subsidized by government. Since coal power is not subsidized and also being treated unfair by tax and regulation to support the new power (solar), then you are all against the coal industries? If you are against the coal industries, then turn off your home power 40% of time and stop taking money for your own solar. We are now exporting coal to China and many countries still using coal fired power and for steel industries like China. Even we export all the excess amount of coal we don't use, we still can't satisfy the need for coal just one country like China. Last but not least, many of our coal fired power plants start to use new technique to be cleaner and more efficient.
I live in the Minnesota Iron range. We flipped to being red because the unions had us voting democrat. The iron range is in a death spiral. There is no union. There is no company. Ghost towns accurately describe us too. The new democrats produced by their liberal college professors are too disconnected from the working class.
@@mr.giraffe7076 I would agree the new democrats have focused on the minorities rather than everyone Unfortunately the Republicans are focuses on big business and stock holders.
@@edgartoepel7473 Then WHY are the unemployment numbers at record lows and for minorities? Your "logic" is flawed, the President is TRYING to help everyone who wants to EARN the American dream. I am so glad he didn't come from Washington DC!
Let the immigrants in, and they will fix that town. I don't see any body younger than 30 in that film. Fix that town up make it look better some paint and a new roof goes a long way. Look at all that lumber. Just let in some new blood, and see that area grow like crazy. Just saying more young people.
I'm not shocked at your comment on how much he's done, what has he done, let's see - supreme ct blocked him on - travel ban - border wall funding - pipeline- - Obamacare, He had all majority repubs for two years, nothing done but little bullshit policies that he didn't even Congress to be involved, but one thing is a fact about uneducated trump supporters, they always turn to the bad, evil Dems to be protected, and bailed out when they have been wronged
Think of this comment as one of tough love and not hate. There's a lot of people in the world that would trade places with you people in McDowell in a heartbeat.
These folks will just keep waiting, no president can or will bring coal back and now that education is a business and out of reach of many, I don't know what actually can be done for this town
Another biased report. The interviewer seemed eager to report anything negative about Trump. It would be nice if she, and others, understood that if they just reported the story and let the people make up their own minds they'd have more credibility as a reporter.
John Rambo ~ None of the cable news programs are worth watching except Hannity. I only watch him on RU-vid. I cut cable (saved money) back in May 2016. I only get news from streaming now. Try it, it will open your eyes. Just remember that once your eyes are open, there's no going back. It's a shit storm out there and Trump is still winning even though he has to fight every single moment of every single day. Don't give up on him. Too many people think it's so easy to get things done in DC, but he has to fight everyone, the media, the crooked judges that Obama put into place, the Dems in congress, even people in the FBI, DOJ, and CIA. They are all mad that they got caught trying to sell the country out. There are over 12,000 arrest warrants ready to put out right now and that's just the tip of the iceberg. You people have absolutely NO IDEA what is happening. WAKE UP!
Still amazes me how some people can think that a man who could wipe every shit off his ass with $100 bills could or would possibly understand them, or give 2 shits about their lives.
wait until the next election. that's when he'll promise not to lie anymore in the meantime eat some government cheese. oh but you'll have to work 20 hours for it.
Sadly...these people are not educated enough to realize that the government is not going to help them...they have to get an education and help themselves
