I shoot compounds with fingers and use drop away arrow rest. I shoot 29" 70# 300spine with 250grain broadheads total 625 grains. This is a great hunting setup. I don't use sights and keep most shots to under 40 meters. I shoot 3 under and like 34ata the best. I've never had a bow derail. But I did shoot recurve for years before I went to compound. I switched to have more momentum and flater arrow flight. But still shoot close to 9gpp. It is a lethal set up.

Great video. I am looking at shooting a compound without sights or release, so enjoyed your comments and stories. Thanks for publishing your work

from a guy who has been shooting a Lever for decades i must point out your release form. if your going to pursuit this into a hunting situation. you need to stop opening your hand to release the bow. instead pull the bow apart while holding on target. you should literally pull the bow string off the tips of your fingers. Understand that your typical 29" set up with a back tension release is to long to try to shoot fingers with. As well as the modual choice. shooting fingers is much easier for me with a 40,50,or 60% let off modual as well as a 1" shorter draw length (vs. a bow set up for release shooting). I know its hard to realize since your losing the length of the head of the release but your point of anchor is closer to 2" difference. Moving forward try other moduals and try setting your draw stops shorter to increase consistency and make your follow through more effective. BTW caint believe you said PSE lol

Sckarekrow who cares about the spelling? You are really that petty to lash out against his grammar.

Wow, that is some of the best advice I ever heard for a compound finger shooter! Thanks man, I dropped my draw length setting an inch and wow!

Couple of little tips for shooting one of those... Shorten the draw length to 28" anchor at the corner of your mouth. When you draw remember, Deep Hook and Gentle Touch (Sure you know that already) and shooting with a Glove (Not a Tab) really helps your groups at longer ranges. Also They Do like 125-140 grain Tips and Broad Heads.

My fingers will start to hurt depending on the draw, but i usually keep it around 65 lbs to save fingers or wear my glove :) also i don't use whisker biscuit i use the HDX rest instead and that helps stop release slaps and no special trigger release needed thanks.

I have a request: It is widely known that Onedia services are hard to come by outside of the US, as lever-action bows (and the skillset to maintain them) are extremely rare. Here in Canada, there is simply no authorized Oneida dealers, so bow owners must fend for themselves and service their own bow. Do you have the expertise to replace the power and yoke Cable on the new Oneida Pheonix? If so, could you do a video on it for those of us who don't have access to specialized services? Thanks in advance!

Does the whisker biscut ... get in the way of your site pitchure? Could you use a whisker biscut on a metal riser recurve... and not being in the way to get on target instinctivly? If you anchor to the corner of your mouth... whick most instinctive archers do... does the whisker bis. prevent site pitchure.. or get in the way of instinctive aiming... looking at the spot your concetrating on?

I also don't use a tab or glove, but double serve my string .021 serveing as this keeps me from reserveing my string as it is harder on the serveing. Great video

Question. Oneida seems to stress that the Phoenix is a hunting model and there other one a fishing bow. Hmmm.. Why is that ? Also per your comment , I take it they sport a let off , do they have an adjustable valley and wall as does the conventional compounds ? I'm interested in the Oneida cause I was introduced to bow hunting via the Fred Bear era with fingers , no sites or gadget rest and these look more nostalgic and pretty and I've had bad hunting experiences with gadget infested compounds. Have done my successful work with recurves and long bows. What say you ? Thanks in advance , Randy.

When u throw a broad head on the front doesnt it change the way the arrow shoots and flexes so you have to do another spine test?

If you have the time I have a question about this bow and finger shooting. I see when you draw this bow... because it's a lever action... After you get to full draw the string angle looks quite steep. I shoot barebow style recurve with 3 fingers under. I really want to shoot compound with fingers. But with 3 under... the string is such a steep angle that the arrow comes or is likely to come un-nocked. Can the Oneida be drawn with 3 under and the arrow not lose it's nock?
@martino7465
@martino7465 6 лет назад
You need to shoot with at least a 35 inch axle to axle bow to lessen the string angle and check at full draw the bow string nocks aren't pinching the arrow knock. If they are move them further apart.
@TheMasonator777

Can you remove your ring finger before the release? Or is the let off not a large enough percentage? I've messed around with shooting 2007-9 era compounds with fingers and that seems to help accuracy. For me at least. I'm guessing less torque at the nock? Also, the biscuit seems to be not a great rest for fingers. I had better results with a full containment drop away.

So u know this is an older video so I hope it is seen I am switching from a Mongolian recurve bow and it's getting to the point where I'm nervous to shoot it since it's getting so old and would love to switch over to the Phoenix I know you have had a not so great time with them being over in Australia. Is it a relatively good transition though I would still like the look and feel of a traditional recurve but want something different w will shoot fingers instinctive I plan to do mostly target with some hunting though

Well, Lancaster does the reviews in 2-3 minutes. They just show the bow, tell about all the specs and features, done. But Stephen here is being real honest. You don’t need script to be honest.
