Very well presented Sir! As a site carpenter I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the problems with mobility and constant use. I have velcroed a new bag inside my 26 and used an old cylinder extractor to clean my Festool 26 bag every couple of weeks using the Festool dust port for access. I can see the bag failing eventually, but should save a few fivers each year. Thanks for your hard work, its appreciated.

An excellent presentation of an excellent product. I recently purchased the UDD and connected it to my CT 36 vacuum. I made 6, 4 foot cuts of 3/4 plywood with my TS 75. Inside the plastic bag of the UDD was the amount of sawdust you'd expect to find from those 6 cuts. Inside the new bag of the CT 36? Absolutely zero dust or chips from what I could see. I can't speak to the durability of the UDD as I've only had it a short while, though it does have the feel of a quality product. I can say it performs very well and is a welcomed addition to my shop. Hi Peter, Enjoy watching all you're videos. I've been using the dust deputy on my CT26 for about 6 mos. and it works very well. I install kitchens and use it on every job, no problem with the portability you don't even notice it's there. When I received it from Oneida it came with two independent lab tests that show negligible grounding degradation. I had my electrician buddy check it out and came up with the same results.

Peter, great video, Ive owned one of these for two years, and Festool USA have said they will not honour warranty because it does not meet their anti static requirements. Also, according to the Festool Training Manager, long life bags are not recommended for sanding applications as the filter allows larger particle sizes to evacuate into the chamber and rendering the HEPA filter subject to abuse. I have a CT 36 and a CT 48. I use the Dust deputy with my track saw and router and HL 850 planer with the 36mm hose for everything including shop clean up. The CT 36 is reserved, with the long life bag, for my Kapex.

You're bonkers Peter! Loved this - like Blue Peter for adults! I'd love to see the same test on the Festool cyclone... mostly because I'd like to reassure myself that spending an arm and a leg on it was ok. 😲

Good video, very informative. Interesting to see the difference on the suction force meter thingy. I have a CT36 with an UDD for workshop use and a CT Midi with an UDD for portable use and I think they are great. I've used the same 2 (very expensive to frequently replace) Festool bags for over 2 years, I've emptied/replaced the UDD bags many many times, so huge savings on running costs as the original Festool bags are close to spotless. Great product.

As always Peter, you are truly a "Cut above". I know of NO woodworking videos, save Norm Abram, that can match; let alone exceed yours. I simply cant wait for each new video you make. Your entire presentation is superb! Of course the sound is perfect now. The videos are first class. Having said that; and this is going to get me no brownies; but I must take issue with the entire world's thinking that has permeated the dust collection scenario and wood working for years. IE: There is all kind of "war stories" concerning "explosions" when using plastic dust piping, etc. EVEN manufacturers have played into this as well. But there are NO credible examples any where that prove these claims.. In fact there ARE engineers that categorically state, "There is simply NO truth to the claims. Further, there is simply NO need to ground plastic pipe. It is a myth and a total waste of time." (Remember plastic can NOT conduct electricity thus a ground wire means nothing to it.) Yes one can get a shock, but it is NO different than the shocks we all put up with in the winter time with dryer air. But other than the shock there is NO harm done. As to the electronics in the Festool dust collectors, there is really not a "snowball's chance in hell", that this would ever come to fruition. Festool has not researched this I am sure. Again I repeat, this is going to win me no brownies and many will take me to task. But in time I sincerely predict that all will now that it is nothing but speculation with not a shred of credible evidence that any kind of explosions were caused by static build up in plastic pipe and/or fittings. We should never forget what the whole world believed in the days of Columbus. In addition the unprecedented scenario of Galileo proving the entire scientific world wrong; when it came to the rate of descent when it comes to gravity. Etc, etc and etc. If you are in doubt, or concerned, then go ahead and spend the money and "be safe"; but there are plenty who will be just as "safe" who discount unproven theories. For Theoldguys8...The foil is only needed if you have some non conducting parts that need to be "strapped" into the earth system. For example if you had a join between two parts which was made with a non conducting material. Peter

Wonderful video, thank you for sharing. The static pressure test was great to see. I've always wondered how large of a drop off there was with the static pressure and CFM by adding the UDD. I'd also be curious to see how those number compared after vacuuming up say 13 liters of saw dust. My guess would be that the UDD stays consistent while the standard setup drops off as the bag fills and the filter dirties. Might make for a great video!

Hello, thanks for sharing this test with us, but to be honest I think it's not entirely fair to run these test only on completely empty bags. I think you should take all three setups, and suck up about 15 liters of sawdust, and then see which system wins. The biggest benefit of using a cyclone is that you keep full suction all the time, instead of losing about 60 percent of it after only having filled up the new (and very expensive) bag only about one third. Even though it's bigger and more cumbersome, I will always use my cyclone. It has, over the course of three years, literally paid for itself more than 10 (ten!) times!

I'm not a contractor, but hauling this onto jobsites isn't the only factor. Imagine filling a CT bag with a planer our a router and having to empty it frequently. I'm looking at this to eliminate the bag-overwhelming sessions. Even if I had to haul this around, depending on the task, it could still be worth it.

For Bruce B who asked if I recommend the UDD - of course I do, I only make videos about products that I am prepared to recommend to my very best friend. What I wanted people to do was to satisfy themselves that they are happy with the warranty conditions for their particular extractor when used with the UDD. I use my UDD all of the time and it is a great improvement on my old DD with the homemade drop box. Peter

A really interesting and highly useful video - thanks for making it! Have you considered doing a follow up, comparing the performance of the bare CT and with the DD attached, after you've machined a bunch of wood and the bags are half full of fine dust? That would be a very worthwhile real world test!! It would be fascinating to see if the DD equipped extractor out performs once a lot of fine wood dust is introduced into the equation.

Great demonstration. I want one! However, £275??!! Yes, it will save money in the long run, but I think for what is essentially a plastic tub, some hose, and the cyclone unit (which can be bought at a fraction of the cost separately), this is a bit steep. Feels a bit greedy to me.

Great video Peter . I've set my Ctl midi extractor to cyclone and drop box which work very well. But I didn't know it had to be earthed due to static . Do you know if running copper wire around the inlet and outlet to a earthing spike would do the same job as the system you have just shown in the video ? I'm just a retired soldier with very limited knowledge of static lol I know in the passed when refuelling trucks with petrol the vehicle had to be earthed. Well I've learnt something new. Thank you keep up the brilliant videos.

I was thinking about that oneida solution about the vacum to suck the bag,would it just work in that area where the hose is, just suck the plastic bag in that area. But not all around the plastic bag? wouldn’t it be better to make a square metal wire frame. You put in the plastic bag and the frame to keep the square form of the bag? Thank you for great videos! Thanks for making this informative video. I had a Dust Deputy on my vac before I upgraded to the CT26. I also read some of the horror stories regarding static build up effecting the electronics of the CT26 on the FOG. It would be nice if there was some kind of affirmation that the Ultimate DD does not have the effect on the electronics I have heard of. Do you think there is any way to test this for static issues?

Hello Peter. On the video you use a remote power with to turn the vac on. Can you tell me where you got it from as the one Ive been using has given up the ghost. Other cheap ones on Amazon just trip off when I try to use a more powerful vac. Thanks

Hi Peter, I recently purchased the HK 55 circular saw after seeing your review and I cannot wait to try it out, so thank you for that. While I was at my local Festool store I had the opportunity to look at the new midi extractor and compare it to the 26. I think you could be right about bitting the bullet and spending a bit more on the 26. I would need to purchase it in 110 volts mode. Can I ask your opinion on an absolute crazy question?- I noticed there is space on the extractor for either a Bluetooth connection or a second plug. Is it possible to have that second plug in 240 volts so as to have the best of both worlds? Sorry but I had to ask. Cheers Dan

Payroll or no payroll. Sorry, but I find it strange that people find this "very informative". The only thing i see is two different results with two different dust containers with no explanation what so ever of why there might be a difference. The conductive plastic is a separate subject that may have influence of electronics in the shop vac but does it influence suction power/decrease??? My conclusion is that you have made a poor job sealing the white box system compared to the other one? Am I wrong?
