It really gives the pixel phones a run for their money! Given the useful launcher features and relatively quick updates, it's mostly a matter of software and build preference. If you really care about cameras then there's that too
kunal pahuja The Google Pixel should have been this with front facing speakers, 64 GB of storage in the base model, and a great DAC for $500. Instead they got greedy as hell
ChillNyeTheBroGuy Their margins were similar to the other high end flagships so not sure what you mean by greedy. Also it looks like they made a great decision to price it where they did as the Pixels are reportedly selling great, especially through Verizon. Just bc ur too poor to afford it doesn't mean Google made any bad business decisions.
mikecantreed it's not the point of affordablity its value for money. If you're buying pixel when you get 99% of features on OnePlus3T. You can we won't judge
Da Sexy Beast it's fine, you don't need to upgrade from OP3. They're basically the same phone, even OnePlus said so. So for software update they'll be treated as the same, so similar timing for update.
Just bought! 🔥🔥🔥 Althought a similar specced phone to look rout for is the LeEco Le Pro3. Currently on sale for $250 (link at bottom)! Only thing you're missing out on is the stereo jack and it has 4GB ram instead of 6GB like the 3t. Plus it has a 4,000 mah battery. Only reason I went with Oneplus 3t one was b/c of the OIS, manual focus, and stereo jack. Although the Le Pro3 comes with a stereo jack adapter, you can't charge while using it. ;{ slickdeals.net/f/9364543-leeco-black-friday-64gb-le-pro3-ecophone-249-32gb-le-s3-129-more-lerewards-sign-up-req-d?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1
I just got my OP3 this past summer and I've never been happier. But I'm glad the new update looks good. What a great device and for a great price. I'll probably wait till the Op4 comes out to upgrade.
If you already own a oneplus 3 I wouldn't upgrade. The 821 is a bit faster but in 6 months the 835 will be out with the oneplus 4 and that will be a huge improvement in performance
it is not about camera sensor all time nexus 6p and pixel have same front-facing camera with IMX179 sensor as OP3T but in the end it all about lens and hardware&software optimization ..
My friend has the original OnePlus 3, and he loves the phone. The 3T seems absolutely incredible. I can't wait for the 4th Gen device to come in 2017. I'm really considering switching to an unlocked phone and this would be my best bet.
I'm looking forward to that camera review, I know they used the same rear camera as the 3 but I also read that they did some software updates to improve it. I guess they applied it to the oneplus 3T aswell. Also curious if the noise cancellation of the video recorder is better now.
It's just a number on paper. You can achieve the same battery life as the 3T with minor tweaks. Specially if you decrease the voltage (which is what they did on the 3T). The OP3 is still a winner for me :)
Filipe Aparicio 400 mAh is a definite change , and whatever you can do for better battery life in the op3, you can do on the op3t and get even better battery life
Jaime, what about the audio recording capabilities in camera videos? Is it improved? That was one of the major flaws that kept me from buying the OnePlus 3.
great review Jaime like always. I was wondering why you don't make Spanish reviews also. in my opinion you are one of the top reviewers and I would like to be able to share your reviews with people that don't speak English.
Good review. I am a happy owner of the oneplus 3. I'm very happy with it, except the battery is not holding the way my Huawei Honor 6 Plus was capable to. The Dash charge comes in handy, but there is no Dash charge capable powerbank out there . When plugging in my 16.000 Mah powerbank, it goes from 15% to 65 in about an hour. So... no Dash charging. Can someone tell me what is the charging time between the OP3 and OP3T? Any difference? I love the oneplus 3 and also consider it as a developpers' phone as there is cyanogenmod out there for this phone. So we are cool for a couple of versions of Android. I guess they'll probably support oneplus3 up to Android 8 or 9. One thing I loved more about my Huawei Honor 6 plus vs the OP3 is the data usage information on the Dual Sim. It seems that the data usage info is not accurate on the OP3. What I love on the OP3 is the always on feature. You take out your phone from your pocket and it will automatically light up the screen in black and white and display the notifications. That's really cool. So, for me, I love the phone, but that battery, could have been better. And the camera looks good in good lightning, but a little bit "foggy" in lower lightning. I guess this can be improved with updates on the software.
Thats what i like about Jaime, a comprehensive detailed review of a phone with a proper conclusion at the end, not like juan where the conclusion would always be "buy whatever u want"
Great job Jaime, it clarified lots of things in my head. Currently an owner of HTC 10, and I'm seriously thinking OnePlus 3T for my next phone. Do you think it would be a wise choice? I love the 10 but I'd like a better battery. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!
I've been watching tons of the 3T videos, im so pulled to change from Samsung S7... but to give water resistance, camera, expandable storage and after sales service......are the things that holding me right now...
I've not been able to get my hands on a one plus 3T but from all reviews I think it's great with the spec bump. I would not switch to the 3T had I to own a 3. Oxygen OS is great and that's a big reason why one plus is on my wish list this Christmas.
I think, I'll be choosing software over hardware this time. The Galaxy S7's display and camera are a bit better but OnePlus got the better package and faster updates... AND the performance is from hell ^^ so fast
Whenever I need a new phone mostly for work related stuff and I'm on a budget I would always look for your after the buzz videos this video helped me land my decision to buy the OP 3T over the newer flashgips as of the moment. Indeed I felt like I never settled for less, thanks Pocketnow!
HTC changed the DESIGN LANGUAGE for Mobile Hardware. GunMetal straight-away reminds me of HTC ONE! Sense is my favorite Software as well. If they just slashed down the price below $500, I will buy it! BATTERY, CAMERA are the main shortcomings though!
Agreed. Came from a Note 5 and this 3T is amazing. Fast as all get out and battery is silly good in comparison to the Note. Go get this phone folks. Seriously.
@Jaime River Saludos desde San Pedro Sula, Honduras!!! OMG I didn't know u are Honduran !!! I love ur reviews. This has been so cool!!! Thanks for this smartphone review I want to have this phone :D
this means opo 4 will be around 500$. great video, thanks for the details. just bought one. I just cant believe op had 5 models with the same 1920x1080 screen that is the only gripe.
vishal Sharma there is no big loss. The performance increase is negligible maybe the only thing that's a bummer is the storage option. But all in all its still a OP3
I bought the 3 after the 3T was announced. To be honest, I don't think it's worth the extra money. The camera stabilization doesn't seem to have improved, the selfie camera seems to have gotten worse due to the fact that more pixels equals smaller pixel size which equals to worse low-light performance, and the 821 is just an overclocked 820. The battery improvement is a gimmick in my opinion - the extra 400mAh were achieved by reducing the voltage. The only 2 things that I think are worth the upgrade are the saphire camera glass, and the extra storage option. I'm cool with 64gb, so $40 for saphire, no thank you. On top of that, I still prefer the Graphite over the Gunmetal any day of the week :)
mAh is a battery specification, lowering voltage won't change the Mah spec. Unless they are outright lying about their base specs, they most likely found a supplier with a more dense battery which isn't a gimmick.
mechtech256 You are actually correct! www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t-xda-review-what-has-changed-and-by-how-much/ A few days after the reveal, there seemed to be some mixed information regarding the battery. They actually changed the battery voltage to obtain more mAh, but the battery chemistry is different as well. I think I might buy a 3T battery for my OP3 later down the road.
Two years after its launch Oneplus 3T is still a great phone, with great battery life and no signs of slowing down. I'm sure there are many people like me, who are still using it and not upgraded yet.
Very good and on point video. I like the fact that you always cover the most important things and stay impartial. You know how to show of a phone and explain everything so that everyone understands. Very professional approach :)
Nice review Jaime, this just confirms my move to one plus from the Samsung note 4 - I'll take a hit on the screen for those sweet specs and customisation!
Christopher Adams it's one of the best android phones for Snapchat. it's buttery smooth and pictures and videos have decent qual as OnePlus has been working closely with Snapchat to make sure it's a good experience.
Shaun Langenberg thanks, in a Pixel review I saw they said the Pixel handled Snapchat well. Since I'm deciding between the two phones to buy I wanted to gauge the proformance of both with something i can relate to.
Steven Rivera I've personally have had bad performance with Snapchat. I a Pixel review it was said that Snapchat worked very well. So this is my apples to apples.
How does the OP3T behaves in terms of sound quality using headphones? I usually appreciate a bass rich sound... Is the OP3 an equipment with rich bass sound using a good pair of headphones?
would a nexus 6p be a good choice over the axon 7, oneplus 3, oneplus 3T ? because i would like a good camera and music experience, and i am not a very heavy user so i don't think i'd notice the (negligible?) difference between the snapdragon 810/ adreno 430 and the snapdragon 820/ adreno 530. because these three phones are almost at the same price where i live. i currently use an almost 4 year old lumia 820 lol!
for for 6p my friend own 6p and it way better in term of display, camera ,network connectivity ,call quality ,battery life ,Pure Android 7.1.1 and all those goodies that pixel Got can be installed after rooting ... man i want a 6p and 3gb ram is more then enough for a smartphone & SD810 is not as good as 821 but it still a decen processor t to do any multitask jobs or can process any heavy usage without any throttling.
@Pocketnow, Can you please compare One Plus 3T with iPhone 6? Both are available at similar price bracket. So confused to select one. Thanks in advance.
Heavy anticipationJaime, Looks to be nothing less than flagship killer but arrival in India is still in shadows and discontinued 3 is getting buyers upset here. And Thanks for nit picking or else seemed this thing didn't had any faults at all
Jaime how would you feel if you have bought the op3 before NOT even 4 months and suddenly you woke up and hear that your "new" phone just got old? and on top of this you contact the company and they say some "Chinese" about their policy and that they are not obligated to inform you or give you access to an upgrade program or something...
Is there any options for an always on display besides the hand gesture? I like the way it works on the Gs8 or my Nexus 6p because it doesn't fully wake my screen, but I do not have to wave my hand over my phone.
Why is the Optic AMOLED not your favourite? How does it compare to Samsung's offerings? I thought they were basically the same technology but just renamed.
So are the cameras good or bad? im upgrade from a nexus 5 32gig. I plan on getting the moto g5plus or either this. i feel moto g5 plus is more value for money than this? im sold on this phone, but the camera is making me think otherwise.
Just wondering if when you receive notifications whether they pop up on the mobile at all or not? Because I had the one plus 3 and even though it was connected to the internet it would never actually pop up with any notifications from any apps at all....
I get the frustration with OP3 owners but this slides right into the "Nexus" slot in my opinion and that is why they realised it. My order is in to upgrade from my Z3+.
Hey.. recently, i got 3T which look identical to 3. I was checking the additional features on it when i view the battery capacity (thru' CPU-Z app) it shows 3000 not 3400 is there a reason ? Your comments will be highly appreciated. Thank you.
