not how it works. You sign up, and if you get an email from them, THEN you smash your phone and send them the video. The only was it leaves it up to chance is if One Plus somehow disqualifies the video. It's a totally wasteful and shameful campaign, but I can't say that it really leaves leaves anything to chance
Here's what I would do: Sign up and whatever, and show them my working phone then very sneakily trade it in for an already broken one! Then smash it. Done lol.
Yes, increase the waste of perfectly fine precision engineered electronic products even more for the sake of shallow and ridiculous marketing campaign. Our landfills obviously aren't full enough, and we of course have too many rare earth metal resources on this planet. OPO looks like a good phone, but this is just asinine.
That's why they limited the campaign to only 100 devices. 100 galaxy phones were going to be thrown away for this device anyway, this makes it more entertaining!

Instead of encouraging people to use their old phones for something beneficial, e.g. donating them to others who might need them, this company tells people to smash those. This is very low competition, a very Chinese action.
I mean why would you smash any of these phones mentioned? 250€ smartphone with 16GB internal memory without an sd card :) I rather wait and buy the 64GB model when it's available the contest is stupid as fuck.
You have to show it's working correctly like screen turns on speaker works etc. Plus they only send 100 emails out to have the chance off smashing your phone for the One Plus One
This is a disrespectful waste of resources. People in the third world would do anything for just a functional phone while in the first world people destroy their expensive, fully functional phones for NO PURPOSE AT ALL. Very eco-friendly too...
The purpose to smash a phone is to rid the ecosystem from that device. When you sell an iPhone to someone else to get a OnePlus One, you're basically still keeping that iPhone in the ecosystem. Someone else is going to use that device.

Andy Li Yeah if i ever buy a phone without my old one being broken, i'll definitely sell it, and i always check if i can get the phone i want used before i even consider buying it new. This way i managed to trade my iPhone 4 for a Galaxy Nexus for no money at all. Both of us were happy and no phones had to be manufactured :)
I liked CM and I am no enviromentalist, but to encourage (selected) people to destroy their smartphones is a horrible idea. Many have even done it prior to beeing selected. Unsustainable and unnessecary, seems you need the hype so badly and we need invitations because your phone is a paper-tiger.
I am waiting to smash my Samsung S3 since so long.. felt so happy to see this video.. The only difference is i imagined smashing my S3 with a sledge hammer.
If you want to smash the past provide the new phone in sufficient quantities to satisfy the demand. Smashing another phone just to get one of the just OnePlus for 1$ is just a stupid promotion stand.

creative idea but: 1). all the hard work that has been put in the making of all those phones and all those lost resources will be lost just because you need a new phone. why waste your money and others people's efforts!! 2). Unfortunately the list of the smartphones you can destroy is limited to the new ones. I could have destroyed my old Huawei U8150 IDEOS eheh but I can't apply for this competition. But who already destoryed his phone not reading the official rules of the competition is nuts!
Basically, You enter this contest where you give your personal info, and tell them what current device you have, and then you tell them how you're going to destroy your phone IF you are one of the 100 people, you will not be asked to destroy your current phone until you are chosen as one of the 100 who will win. So basically, if you destroy the phone with the method you chose after being chosen, ffilm it, post it on youtube for them to watch, and then they'd send you your new phone for a dollar. Kind of stupid, id much rather wait for it to release on shelves, and get the black 64 gig version.. this is just stupid.
I signed up for this campaign but I do not have an Xperia Z nut an Xperia ZL, basically they are from the same Lineup and price-range and the specs are exactly identic in both. it was my mistake but can we count it? Greetings
I think I'm of the minority that thinks this is a smart move. After they pick the 100 winners, they have a solid lineup of videos for them to advertise. I think showing people destroying their old device in crazy ways just to get a new phone is pretty enticing. Not sure why they're bothering to charge people $1 for the phone though, do they not have $100 more to spend on free devices?
This is what I think: They want to let you destroy your high end phone like a HTC one M8 and make a video of it and put it on RU-vid. They do this because they want to let other companies see that people would smash their phone to get the oneplus one for $1 a bit earlier then other people. What I would've done is selling my high end phone (only if their specs are much better) and buy their phone with the money I made for selling my high end phone. I think there are 2 reasons why people would smash their high end phone: 1. They want to get it earlier then other people, 2. They are stupid and only look at the $1 dollar price.

I find this campaign so disturbing that I will make sure to never buy anything from them or from the companies that manufactured their products ever again. It may not make much difference to them but that the same thing my friends told me when I refused to eat at a Mc Donalds and now only India has the pure veg branches. Why not make a campaign where you ask people to give their phone away/donate?!
No matter how much I wanted a oneplus one, I would never destroy the s3 I love so frickin much. Only an idiot would put their phone in there (i would buy a fake dummy and put that in). I want a oneplus one but seriously, if you had an iPhone you would be destroying something that a homeless, broke person worked hard to make. i wish this phone be made from Steel they said its only abt weight but it doesnot matter that much the weight and i would like to be able to use sd card and removeable battery also would be good and helpful i love this phone
