this track holds a very special place in my heart. Way back when I used soundcloud a lot for my music, soundcloud recommended me this track when I was feeling quite homesick before I even knew anything about the game. Then I opened steam and happened to find the game, and got really excited! I'm so glad I went in nearly entirely blind because this game has become one of my favorite games. It's so important to me.
JoAnna Zabolio I got the experience of going in entirely blind. I had only heard "It's a god game" and I'd seen Alula's portrait once in one of my friend's discord pictures. Didn't even know it was a puzzle game. What an experience
TheEGG Well, in theory that could probably work in RL You just need enough materials to make it work, Buttons are just the cheapest way All you need that is probably gonna be challenging to get is a Coffee can that can fit the hole where the button would be...
I assume instead of apes evolving into humans in our world, Niko's human species in their world descended from felines. So I wonder just what their reaction was to seeing the humans more similar to our world. (Imagine they start thinking "what's with all the talking monkeys?")
Man... I'm so glad I played OneShot. This might sound crazy, but I'm willing to say it's changed my life. It's something I can think back to, some nice memories to have, when times get tough. I sometimes even listen to the OST when I'm going to sleep! Love this game.
I go to sleep with this soundtrack for most of the time. The OST itself is good for walking at night alone, not that I encourage you to (mostly cuz night isn't the safest time to be alone outside).
I can say that it gave me actual happiness. Everytime i listen to the ost while walking outside, i think back to where that ost was from and then all my worries will be on hold.
This song is so good it hurts. It hurts purely from how damn good it is. It's not even because of the sad undertones or anything about the specifics of the song. It's just the pure goodness of the song.
Wait fr? Don't get me wrong, I liked Undertale's OST, but *one of the best*? Idk, I feel like there's probably more out there, like Celeste, that just have astounding OST's..
@@nathancarver7179 I've only heard about Celeste, I haven't even listened to the soundtrack or seen gameplay of it, but when it comes to OSTs (in my humble opinion), Undertale is indeed one of the best. A lot of the music is really memorable and fun to listen to (I have around 5 favorite songs from that OST alone), and it's helped a lot of people with their lives iirc. Oneshot's OST is also great of course, but Undertale has more memorable songs (and songs in general, haha).
@@ilovethelight777 Undertale has probably one of the most memorable OSTs from the last decade. On the other hand, Celeste doesn't have many songs (though on the OST they're made a bit longer with repeats), but in my opinion, it's absolutely excellent and I implore you to give it a listen. It's a mix of chiptune and piano and it really captures the feeling of climbing a mountain. While OneShot's OST is great I don't think it's quite as overall amazing as those other OSTs.
This hits different when it's midnight, you're in a large city, people around you everywhere. You're carrying a suitcase and at the door of an airport. It's time to fly back home and see your family again.
@@trakra9959 sounds sad but luckily there's a lot of indie games like that. Wandersong for example is a great indie gem, and like Oneshot is easy to play, just longer and with some really banger music
No, the "THUMPTHUMPTHUMP" is the noise Niko makes when he is walking around most of the Refuge. Because its all sheet metal or expanded metal floors. Despite the deafening noise of his footsteps, the song is called "On Little Cat Feet" I always thought that was funny.
This song, this song did it for me as a kid. I remember when the trailer came out and I sorta freaked out about how good the song was. I rushed to watch all of Nightmargin's videos and instantly fell in love with her style of songwriting. fast forward to now, I just finished Solstice and I honestly don't think any game has made me feel this way before, Undertale was close, but this was something else. Oneshot will forever go down in my heart as the greatest game I've ever played, and probably ever will play. This soundtrack is utterly beautiful, the Harmonic Language is like no other, completely unique to itself. I personal favorite tracks include: 1. On Little Cat Feet 2. My Burden Is Light 3. Niko and The World Machine 4. I'm Here 5. Children Of The Ruins God, I love this game...
It is unfortunate that I spoiled this game. I just wanted to understand why niko was everywhere and managed to spoil the whole game. its on me though :(
The only game I know, with a soundtrack tha made me feel similar to One Shot's was Hollow Knight... Some of the songs in that game give me a similar feeling of Fernweh...
Just bought this yesterday. This was the first game I played blindly, and now it's one of my favorite games. There is no other game like this and I'm so glad I didn't spoil myself.
Just finished it for real this time, I think this is the best game I've ever played in my opinion, although I don't want to play again... you'll understand when you finish the game.
“..” “You’re here.” “Not much of this world remains.” “This will be apparent when you go outside” “This place was never worth saving in the first place.” “…” “But do you still want to try?” “.” “Then remember this:” “Your actions here will affect niko.” “You only have oneshot, Y/N.”
Well when i first finish the game i sad to my self "There must be something more, i really don't want just quit" So i played again again and again. Then i realised that there is a true ending, i was so happy for some reason, the game made me feel so much emotions. So i played to find it. I was so happy that i can still have adventure with Niko and i really wished that the game never ends. The game was so good i returned to it and play it when i was sad. But after true ending i can no longer returned because the character was no longer Niko. This game made me think about how rotten this world really is, i really don't know how but it did. When I'm hearing this song it makes me cry and smile at the same time, i really miss Niko, i never felt so emotional
Same here...Only two games made me cry a lot...Oneshot and Portal2. Sad that it didn't get that much attention...and that Markiplier didn't finish it. -_- If you look at the comments on his last episode of Oneshot 90% of the comments say that there is more to the game...Don't know why he didn't finish it...Properly. :(
This song evokes a strange kind of beauty as well as a deep, indescribable pain. I’m not even sure if the two are separate. Either way, this is the good shit.
While on my way home from work on the train, I played this song. Arriving at my station, it was cold, dark, and nothing for sight in miles, other than a steel refinery in the distance, illuminated by orange lights. With that combined with this music in the background, it gives me this vibe I can't even begin to describe. One Shot is such a powerful game, with an amazing sound track
@@nikothecat4717 Niko's persona, stand, AND spirit animal are all just different versions of the player. Persona: The player's imaginary self Stand: The player, but buff Spirit animal: The player's fursona
After finishing the game a few years back. I tried to go back again and still cry to find out I can't redo the entire game again. That it is all just a pre-recorded memory and it makes you feel that way. Knowing that Niko is in back in their hometown where they truly belong.
Why would you do that? The World Machine is still there. it still needs to be tamed. And the only way we can do that is by treating it like a real person.. And since it takes the form of Niko... that means we need to replay the game from its "Memory." to treat it like its Niko.
I hear a lot about OneShot and Undertale comparing. But what about Celeste? To me Celeste and Oneshot are similar for the type of stories they tell: Celeste is about Madeline's depression and Theo's insecurities. During the game, they learn how the cope with life and improve on it. And Oneshot is about a world that is falling apart, because The World Machine is becoming 'unstable' due to conficting thoughts and not considering themself as sentient (aka 'tamed'), but rather, as just another machine. And then Niko comes in to vibe check. So, both stories are about learing something and thus fixing mental instabilities.
I can see this comparison, especially when comparing Badeline to The World Machine. They both distort/break apart their reality whenever they have a panic attacks, and are constantly fighting themselves on both a literal and metaphorical level. Both also justify their actions as an attempt to protect the main character.
Our red city Glowing faintly 'Til we all be Lost in the night, In this city, End is calling Light is falling Where's the sunlight? Guided by the water's red glow Walk through our city so huge Darkness closing in, we feel it, Here in our unstable Refuge.. Niko: In this city All around me I walk quickly Avoid failure, This red city Light is dying People crying Where's our savior? Guided by the sun's yellow shine, I run through this city huge, We'll save all these hopeless people, We'll save this unstable Refuge!
i cannot do any tricks sadly - Yes that works so well, I love it. People like you make songs like this so great and inspire people to make covers of songs that are like this. It is hard to keep up with through but it's still great none the less
when i first heard of oneshot i thought it was going to be like an assassination game. like you only got one shot to hit your target or smthn yeah no its way better than that
o.o La verdad no pense que este juego me fuese a gustar tanto, es de mis favoritos. Tanto así que apenas lo jugué San que iba a ser una gran experiencia! Y lo fue... Te extraño Niko :(
Iudex Gundyr well. that is true. i still avoid it now because it sends me back to the past pretty hard. And it kinda hurts. Like a painful level of nostalgia.
StoneTheMason _Music Yep, it's truly amazing how this game made me care about the main character after the 1st dream sequence where Niko started talking to me directly.
Iudex Gundyr ...there's nothing else like it on the earth. It's things like this that should be preserved for future generations. Im actually coming back to this to let some feels flow i guess. Don't know if they oneshot related or not. Sometimes i just gotta feel something i guess.
I just realized how much the start of this sounds like Block World from Yume Nikki. No idea if that was intention but if it is it's genius considering this is when you really start facing the corruption squares.
The last leg of your journey. A stronghold, a *bastion* of civilization amid a dying world. The echoes of Niko's footsteps as the two of you cross the catwalks, knowing that there isn't much time left. So, so beautiful...
probably the most beautiful thing about the game is that everyone who played it come to the soundtracks and tell their experiences. i have never, never once seen a bad comment.
I've discovered this game through Undertale/Deltarune fan projects... You know, I'm a huge fan of Toby Fox's work. Somehow, they always give a shout-out to Niko. The most recent one that actually fully convinced me to play OneShot was Deltarune Repainted, a Deltarune meme mod, featuring a Mettaton-cosplaying Kris, Dio from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and, surprisingly, Niko from OneShot. She was an absolute cutie there, and just for the theme of the mod, she was an absolutely good memelord in the mod. So, with the expectations of an Undertale-like puzzle RPG experience, I downloaded OneShot, installed it and started playing it... The game is HEAVILY based on puzzling, even more than I expected to be, honestly. First, I had a bad time because of the need for figuring out the solutions for the puzzles, but enjoyed the beautiful soundtrack. Then I had enough of it and started replaying Undertale's Pacifist Route for the thousandth time... Then I postponed it to give a second chance to OneShot... I REALLY appreciate that I gave AnotherShot™ (really bad pun warning). I fell in love with the game and I kinda got used to the puzzles so much that I started successfully solving them alone, without the help of RU-vid. Then the beautiful story... OMG, this is really good! So, this is the story of how I became a fan of a game which was joked to death in my "natural habitat". Update: About the fanbase: It's just as a chill and welcoming community as the Earthbound or Crash Bandicoot community, and there's no toxicity here ATM, unlike the Sonic or the Undertale/Deltarune fanbase.
That's the good thing about these smaller games... If they are not very popular, they won't draw a lot of attention. (Which is both good and bad) And because the people that play it WANT to play it they'll go and search it on the internet to play it themselves. Gladly most of the attention the game got was from Markiplier. His community and Jack's are pure gold, friendly and awesome. (If you ever heard of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. just so you know...the community is pretty big and very friendly. But still not as big as Undertale or any of these bigger games) When Mark played it...I said... FISH (he he, family friendly-ish...not really...) IT! I'll play this game for myself! (My timing was so perfect that just when I was about to finish Oneshot...SOLSTICE came out,go figure ^.^ Lucky me) I finished the game when he was at episode 3... And when he finished the game and didn't do the SOLSTICE ending... I got really sad...Because the game changes a lot in the SOLSTICE run...If you played it...you know how everything looks...and how...tragic some things are... If you go and look at his comment section on the last episode on it it's FULL of people trying to point it out to him... But sadly...To no avail... :(
I found it from the robotic wisp sunrise remix after finding a whole bunch of ut songs...which made ma yt recommendations be like "hey...some oneshot" And i heard it and was like "GIMME GAME NOW"
fr I wish a lot more of the songs had as many or more views than this one. It's weird, I would classify this game as underrated but I see lots of talk about it online and the remixes of songs be having more views than the original songs themselves for some reason. Either Way, I'm glad the comments sections aren't barren and still have people talking.
This bpm is close with eleventh hour, I suppose this ost is like telling us that we're running out of time (if im not mistaken this was played during elevator guy's part), then when it reaches eleventh hour it gets more tense.
One thing that always bugged me about video games was hot copy-catty they are. Go here, kill this, go there, talk to that NPC. OneShot totally breaks that cycle. I think graphics can be nice but they are so unimportant compared to story, mechanics and originality.
Graphics are important in my opinion. Not in the sense that games need to be hyper-realistic, I just think it's important for games to be visually appealing. OneShot has pixel graphics but it's still beautiful to look at.
Graphics aren't important. Art style is. Its why games like Borderlands age great while more realistic looking games age like milk. By the same token, the use of colours in OneShot is gorgeous despite the low graphics.
My dad considers games to only be good if they have nearly perfect graphics and by that I mean realistic. The way i see graphics is that I want it to not be painful to look at. If I can look at it and not get sick or get a migraine and can tell what it is I'm looking at then fine.
I'm gonna fucking have a mental break down now, this game has given me the kind of feels I haven't gotten from any other game in existance and just the soundtrack gives me those feels.
The Refuge upper level. This is that awesome final region. After coming from the calming Glen, you have to have an exciting music playing! Cannot say that for the people who have gotten "that" ending. This is one of my favorites. But the elevator is down and you need to get down. Jumping down is not an option. What now? More importantly, how did you even get up there? And why are there no stairs?
@@flippersumogaming oneshot has great story and gameplay undertale has a story thats even more bittersweet, good gameplay, but oneshot 's gameplay is super unique both are also very similar story wise we need a oneshot remake where the game is a little bit longer and a little more bittersweet and slightly more emotion
When you're listening to this, without picking items, running etc. It just, I don't know hot to explain. I can listen to this all day, but I can't. It's just perfect
A child wakes up in a strange new world and has to go to this city in order to get home. Along the way, she occasionally overcomes obstacles with obtuse solutions through dumb luck and meets a variety of quirky characters with behaviors that baffle her, including a robot that can't move until it gets lubricated.
@DARK CHROMA Also, s/he has to save this strange, fantastical world from an encroaching entity that threatens to envelope the world in nothingness by going to the apex of a tall tower where the world's destiny is determined. Along the way, s/he is given a medallion that guides and protects him during at least one part of his/her quest and is essential to making it to his/her destination. The ruler or god of the world is given his/her name by the player/reader.
Time to overanalize the HECK out of some images! Also known as trying to find out where Niko lives solely off of whatever. (Read More for the whole thing) Alright, so, first things first, we need to find out what age Niko is living in. However, this is easy, because they know what a generator and gas mask are, meaning they most likely live around today's year. Now we know how that's going. Now we need to isolate what type of environment Niko lives in. One of the only pieces of evidence we get of Niko's homeland is a completely bright sky filling the background, behind a field of wheat. This means they live in a civilized area, but not an urban one, meaning they most likely don't live near cities, but still live in a place civilized enough to have a field of wheat. A lot of places off the grid already. However, that is not THE only evidence we get of where Niko lives. They know how to work a computer, meaning they most likely live in a place where a rural area is able to get not only electricity, but enough money to buy a PC. Again, striking a lot of places as a no. Another piece of evidence is that Niko wears a scarf and long-sleeved coat, along with a hat which looks like it's made to block out sunlight. So, we have a few bits of evidence here: Niko lives during or close to today, and in a place that is able to run a computer and has a bunch of wheat, is very sunny, and is also cold enough to suggest wearing a jacket and scarf. The fact that it's very sunny strikes off the poles, but the cold also removes the possibility of the equator coming into play, leaving areas slightly further from the equator than the Tropics. Given the wheat, they also must live in a rural, civilized area, striking off a lot of the USA and other countries, including but not limited to Japan, China, and Mongolia. However, there is one key detail here that we've not acknowledged yet: Niko speaks perfect, fluent english, meaning it must at least be a country where they can either learn english or be born with parents who speak it, meaning countries like Germany, Russia, Korea, and many others out for the count. So, given all of this, the most likely candidate for Niko's homeland is somewhere in or near Ireland.
Its A Long Comment but geez this goes in depth but lemme add some things, It Seems A Little Like Scotland Because Its Cold And Sometimes Sunny, And Niko Must Look Like A Cat/Person Because One Reason, He Is. But i find it strange because Nikos Mama By What We See Is A Human, But Niko Never Says He Has A Dad.
@@gammadosnahtan884 1. HEY! *NIKO IS NOT A CAT!* 2. I am now unable to imagine Niko without a heavy Scottish accent and I both love it and hate it at the same time.
