Please note that reviving lithium ion batteries does have some inherent risks. You should watch some videos and learn about (for your specific battery type) what the minimum safe voltage is and whether you want to attempt to recharge (or replace) a specific battery it if its below that minimum safe voltage. Of course, whenever you are accessing batteries and doing things not advised by manufacturer, you are voiding your warranty and creating a more risky environment. Literally these batteries can explode and cause damage and injury or even death, so please be careful and remember you are assuming your own risk in what you do. I'm not saying that what I've done here is safe. I'm just showing you what I did to get my battery charging again. If you follow this procedure you assume all risks associated with doing so. I have no expertise in batteries and I'm not advising you to do this.

The battery cell size is 18650, it appears you have murata VTC6D cells (pint batteries were made by several subcontractors, so you will sometimes find different cells in there). As to pulling poor performing cells from the chassis and replacing them, it is possible. The cells are joined in series by strips of nickel, which are welded onto the battery terminals using a soldering iron. If you're interested DIYing pint (or other onewheel) batteries, Mario Contino @The Board Garage has a really good video of a tear down and rebuild of a quart battery. The quart battery is a aftermarket extended range battery for the pint which is constructed from 21700 cells in the same 15S1P configuration. So, almost double the capacity while still fitting inside the original pint battery enclosure.

Hey thanks for your comment. I seem to have revived my OEM battery. If it dies I’m definitely going to tackle building my own replacement.

vtc5d cells are used, funny enough these were designed for the dyson vacuums and these r actually really good, this has the highest discharge rate while still having pretty good capacity at the same time, better than the vtc6

Do you know why the firmware like Gemini 5100 won’t work with the quart batteries?

Please also consider that it can be dangerous reviving lithium ion cells. There are videos out there on this.

I took the battery out of my pint used the same charger on the same .5 amp setting hooked the alligator clips to the positive and negative on the battery plug. My battery was at 9.8 volts.turned the charger on it ran for 90 seconds then shut off. It said battery disconnected. Checked voltage again it was at 20.4 volts. Plugged the battery and pin connector back into the bms board plugged in onewheel in and it started charging. I have been riding and charging for multiple days doesn’t seem to have affected the battery. Maybe give it a try before removing all the battery covering.

Interesting solution. So glad you got your battery working again!

This worked for me! Great video though. Only one I could find that explained what was happening so well. Saved me $300 on a new battery.

Awesome video, thank you. What is the size of each one of those batteries? The mAh and V?

It worked 🎉 i used the same charger! But i also didn't oben the battery.. i also just pluget it in the charger, charged it to 27 and after i used the normal charger of the onewheel

Can you explain a little further?

Make sure you use Fiberglass tape and consider using 200mm shrink wrap and a heat gun to finish the battery. That's what I did.

it looks like you had 2 cells that were low voltage and you decided to charge just those 2 cells instead of the rest. I think you should check each individual cell rather than 2 at a time. Each lithium cell group is rated to 4.2 volts max so you want to make absolutely sure you are not accidentally charge a cell above that level to avoid the thermal runaway or damaging a cell by overcharging it. I think you lucked out and possibly didn't overcharge a single cell above 4.2 volts but I am not 100 percent sure. If you have to do this trick again in the future connect your hobby charger to the correct cell and double check the voltage to avoid overcharging a cell like I said.

Thanks so much for this comment. So, what you are saying is that I should have got a spot welder, and removed each cell from the metal connecting them, and then assessed and charged them individually, and then used the spot welder to re-connect them? What's the minimum safe voltage to recharge a 18650? How do you know if the battery is a dead and should be replaced? I think I get what you are saying? When you measure two at a time, you could end up overcharging one and undercharging the other. That makes sense. My main method of charging was to use the OneWheel's internal charging, which used the internal balancer. Would it catch a since cell issue if they were connected? I assume not, and that if will only know if the temperature gets very high. Thoughts?

@@chadbrown6833 What I am saying is if you do this again in the future be careful and do your research. If a cell explodes in your face because of a mistake it would be bad. FYI each balance wire lead goes to one specific cell group. No need to charge two cells together when you can trace the wire to the specific cell that needs to be charged!

Can you just Buy a Chi Battery and this Issue will be Fix? Im asking because my OG Pint Charger stays Green light and wont turn Red Light to be able my Onewheel to Charge

Replacing the battery could potentially work. But if you are doing it yourself you are doing a trial and error method so provided you can either return the battery or don't care about the cost if its doesn't work, I say why not. Changing the battery isn't too much of a hassle.
