*Attention* there is now a much better and more permanent solution using _stainless steel threaded inserts._ I offer this service if you want to mail me your rails. (I can repair your rails and ship them out by the very next day) Otherwise you can find a local repair shop on StokeLifeService.com that can do this for you as well.
just to let everyone know if you’re still watching this video. this link for the helicoil repair kit DOES NOT WORK FOR PINT/PINT X. i learned the hard way.
Thanks so much for sharing this. I posted to the OW subreddit asking what to do about stripped threads and people pointed me here. Got the tools and just did the repair, worked perfectly.
Super helpful man! Thank you for this video, my onewheel pint has two stripped holes on the front foot pad and then right under it on the fender screw hole. And I was so upset thinking it was unfixable cause I’m not very good with this type of stuff on how to fix it. But that is so much more simpler than I thought! Great video, and great help 👍🏻
Nice. My footplate screw has been stripped for ages, even has the helicoil, true laziness lol. Thought I'd check a video, might encourage me to get on with it finally lol
Thank you for the video! On the first day I got my pint I smashed it on my front steps and somehow stripped two holes. I used your affiliate link to hook a brotha up.
This was super helpful! I'm assuming the helicoils stronger than the a aluminum frame. Would it be a horrible idea to just spend the time rethreading the whole board? That way you won't have to worry about stripped threads in the future? I already have two stripped fender threads so this was perfect for me! Thanks!!!
They are definitely stronger than the stock aluminum threads on the rails, so that wouldn't be a bad idea at all. You could probably skip doing it to the brass inserts that are in the control module though. If those were stripped, i would just replace the brass inserts themselves.
Do the original FM provided screws fit back in with the new helicoil? I'm riding a GT and never owned an XR so not sure if they are all 4mm or 10-32" sizes. Anyone know off hand? Great video @WheelWithMe
By the way you are using the helicoil inserter a little incorrectly. I mean I guess if it works for you its fine, but the helicoil is supposed to be inserted into the gap in the inserter and screwed through the end of the tool. Basically like a funnel to get the helicoil compressed and aligned correctly.
Yeah, I did that the first few time and the coil always came unwound and loose instead of staying a tight coil 🤔 So I just do it this way and keep pressure on it to compact the coil.
So I have two screws striped on my rear fender holes will this work on the pint I can't get an answer anywhere on the size of screws for the pint or how to fix it
Did you ever have any luck? my two back Pint fender screws wont screw in either - but odd, when I take the fender off and screw into the hole it seems to hold just fine. No idea.
Do u think putting some lock tight on the helicoil would be a good idea? To help keep it from popping out. Also how bad is it if I punched thought the waterproof seal? Great video been trying to figure out how I wanted to retread by board
I wouldn't really worry about popping through the seal because on newer boards they have a much better rubber seal than the old foam one on my board. However you could always just squirt a little silicone in the hole like you do when using a waterproof Badger Wheel kit. As for the loctite, I probably wouldn't do it because you might want to replace the helicoils down the line. Eventually the extra bit that hangs down (if you don't cut them to the right size) starts to droop and catch. Nowadays I actually use stainless steel inserts. I have a repair shop and I offer that service. There are actually a ton of repair shops across the country that do it as well.
I have a stripped screw on the back bumper spinning in place, the one holding my battery. Plastic housing/molding..... any suggestions? Tried applying upward pressure. No avail. 4209 and preventing me from changing bumpers, battery upgrade, etc
Yo yo! I hope you still answer :) my front bottom left bang bumper screw is not tightening and I’m noticing that it can possibly be stripped as well. Do I do the same thing demonstrated in the video or do I need to remove the controller?
Ugh...RU-vid put this in my spam folder. I hope you got this problem fixed by now lol Usually you can just drill out the screw with the included Helicoil drill bit. However if the screw is going into one of the brass threads then that means the brass thread has come unglued. I've had this problem and i cut off the head to the screw to get my board apart, then i was able to carefully pull out the brass thread, and epoxy/super glue it back in place.
So my front right float plate screw is stripped, thats the one that goes into the controller. There’s no way of fixing that one without removing the controller correct!?
Yeah you have to remove the controller, but that is super easy. Ignore the borderline illegal warranty void stickers, they won't actually void your warranty. But those brass inserts are difficult to replace and require a special tool for a soldering iron. I've actually never tried to put a helicoil in one of them because the brass insert can spin freely very easily.
So, i've never stripped a Helicoil but i have ripped them out because i didn't install it 100% properly. Having said that, there is a new method for upgrading your threads. You can now get stainless steel inserts installed and they look so clean and should, in theory, never strip. If you go to StokeLifeService.com you can find a local repair shop and get it done. (Otherwise i offer the service as well but it would involve mailing me your rails)
Im trying to do this the the screw right next to the one in this video and its not catching the hole. I assume this screw is a little smaller? Has anyone drilled out new bigger holes, then threaded them?
Wheel With Me The front screws on the bottom of the board under the front footpad which hold the bumpers on. You replace the old screws with longer ones when you put floatplates on.
@@codypursifull8427 Hello....this has happened to me as well. Were you able to remedy it? I had a worse case scenario and actually had to rip the brass thread out by cutting away the plastic around it.
