These things are pretty cool. The only issue is the lack of good aftersales support and a more affordable pricetag. That's the two things that are holding me back from buying one. Otherwise I would use this daily as an endgame emulation and steam machine

they released the oxp for £633 is what I paid on IGG at the time and I did a referal and got a bundle of goodies but now the OXP starts at over £250 higher and I can't justify this when I have the OXP i7-1165g7 and Steam Deck. The GPD Win 4 is more than £200 less for the same 6800u and ssd capacity and ram size. However GPDs record of igg quality control has put me off from even bothering.

I see this response a lot on handhelds all the time. I felt the same way and held out as long as I could. I eventually settled on a steam deck because of its support. I can tell you the steam deck has wonderful support from the factory and community. It's worth looking into.
@_GarethRossUK
@_GarethRossUK Год назад
@@ronin_117 I did look into the steam deck vs 6800u and until you push the watts of the 6800u the steam deck out performs the 6800u in most games tested. Only when the watts are exceeding 20w then the 6800u does out perform the steam deck fps cap but maybe 15% and even further when the watts are really pushed but then you loose battery life.

@@_GarethRossUK that's a lot of really good information I did not know, thanks bud!
@bnr32jason
@bnr32jason Год назад
@@_GarethRossUK that’s not accurate at all. Look at all the benchmarks and tests done by reviewers, the 6800u starts to surpass the Steam Deck at anywhere from 13-15 watts depending on the game. Also most of these devices have a significantly larger battery than the Deck. At equal wattage the Ayaneo 2 gets about 30 minutes more battery life than the Deck. Yes they obviously suck at power at high wattage, but you don’t have to go to super high wattage to get better performance than the Deck. I suppose if someone really wants to push it hard to 35 watts or so they could just have it plugged in to an outlet or a battery bank. I know I probably won’t ever push my Ayaneo 2 above about 25-28 watts.

Really glad to see we have multiple options in this area, and that it seems all major players are keeping up... I kinda like the bigger screen on this one, plus how you can detach gamepads... the bigger size also gets me a bit more comfortable in regards to heat dissipation and room for mods. I'm still waiting a bit to see if the Deck will get here, otherwise I'll put Aya, GPD and OnexPlayer in a chart and make the decision there.

I'm happy to see your down to earth review of it too as you do have a different perspective than the other tech reviewers. I posted elsewhere too but I did end up pulling the trigger on this. My long winded reasons I guess- (TL:DR The modular concept really sold me over on it.) The things I'm most annoyed with is that I had to buy the grip separately, its not an OLED, and I'm concerned about software support after its in my hands. Here's to hoping wider SteamOS support for devices like this in the future. It having smaller bezels and thinner design would also be a plus but for what it can do its a compromise I'm willing to make. I also like the screen resolution even if I won't be using it often in gaming and I did order a keyboard as well to make it a mini laptop/netbook (being able to take off the controllers to make it a little more discrete while keyboard is connected is cool too). Overall it seems pretty sweet and I am betting that I'll sell my Surface Book 2 to cover the cost of this (at least partially). Not to mention keeping the pen from the Surface if I ever want to use it with this. Edit: I also don’t like the orange accents.

Seems like it was information they was just alerting you about vs requiring you to tell people it in the video, unless that small part is just a detail you decided to leave out and they did say you must say it in the video, then yes, i disagree with them and its weird and shady on their end.

That part was me explaining how this usually goes. It didn't go that way this time because they didn't tell me what was being fixed and just making a general statement like that isn't enough for me to embargo my thoughts. It was strange so I explained how this process typically goes with other companies. A better example to illustrate what this is usually like in practice would be if I got sent a prototype that had damaged paint. I might be asked to not emphasize the damage because it's not reflective of a retail product, or I can show it, but I have to say that this is prototype-specific.

These handheld Gaming PCs are more powerful than the SteamDeck. You will find they release these handheld every year with increasingly more powerful and newer specs, because they are PC vendors - this is what PC gaming is about. The prices are kept around the same as well. Valve is not going to release a Steam Deck 2, 3, 4,5 etc.. every year, however these PC vendors can because it's the business model. So when you think about it, that Price to performance ratio will continue to shrink for the Steam Deck compared to handheld gaming PCs. Already there is discussion that the SteamDeck is sort of underpowered - It is far more powerful and capable than the Nintendo Switch at such a small price difference, but out outside of the console world quite a fair bit of tweaking and some comprises are needed to run many of the newest AAA games at 45-60fps SteamDeck will have legs for many years because there are tens of thousands of older AAA games and emulation that will run fantastic on the device, but handheld PCs looks to be growing very, very fast with more powerful and capable handheld gaming PCs coming out every year that may eventually reach a level of parity with laptop gaming pcs to run the latest AAA games that the Steam Deck will increasingly lag behind to a point it simply cannot run them reasonably because it doesn't have the chops to do it. Consoles can get away with it, because games are developed for those specs "lowest common denominator", but in the PC gaming world one has to eventually upgrade if they want to run the latest and greatest at reasonable performances.
@AdmiralBison
@AdmiralBison Год назад
as for the battery life, this device has a bigger 65 watt battery so it's going to run classic AAA, indie games etc for far longer. What you want is a bigger battery to use ratio. I would be interested to see how long it can run the most demanding AAA games compared to other 6800U devices with the same level of settings, screen brightness, power profile etc...with respect to the screen size and resolution as well that is being powered This would help show how much of a benefit batery size could be. I do agree, we can always use more battery life, but I also think we are hitting the limits of litium Ion batteries and are overdue for newer and better battery technology anyway. Only so much tweaking, chip efficiency, software optimization and compromises that can be done until all handheld technology (and electric cars, houses) are simply held back because of our current battery limitations. d

Great video, I received my Steam Deck last week after playing RDR 2 for 30 hours I do not think I need this generation handheld. Also my Aya Neo 4500u can still play a decent amount of games with 22w TDP. I played around 80 hours of Elden Ring on Aya Neo.

I really hope the handheld gaming PC market can get big enough that AMD will start making chips with lower end CPU's and higher end igpu's. A 6600u or even a quad-core CPU with a Radeon 680m would be cheaper, use less power, and have pretty much the same performance as a 6800u on a handheld.
@alexmeek610
@alexmeek610 Год назад
So you want a steam deck with a two-3 extra gpu cores cause that’s basically what it sounds like. Btw you wouldn’t have the same performance since you’d be cpu bound

@@alexmeek610 Yeah, with most games, the extra cores on the 6800U are wasted. Hell, hexacores still don't see great utilization in that many games. So, when reliant on an iGPU, we'll only be CPU bound in a very, very small handful of games.

The ironic thing is I actually have the money for such devices, it's just my damn bank has policies that prevent high ammounts of money to be given/paid for something in one time (something that is supposed to fight bank fraud, I guess?) and no store I know that ship devices like that to my destination accepts payments in installments...

When paying the high prices that these kind of handhelds demand I would expect a large screen as he default. I liked toe orange accents over the black, minus the gaudy text that is also cringeworthy. I don't agree that a controller should have heft to feel worth it. Heft is weight, which is not as conducive to long periods of play because of weight. When these things become a standard at less than $500 then I think that there will be a greater take-up but at these prices, they will still be very niche. In a market that is becoming very crowded and soon to be saturated, prices will have to fall in order to compete longer term.
