Getting quilty goodness packages makes my day! And I can tell you were very happy with your purchases, thanks for taking the time to show us all the goods! I just placed an online order with Keepsake Quilting. Keepsake was purchased by the family who owned Pineapple Fabrics, right here in my home state of NC so they're close by, and, they have open warehouse days too! Like many online stores they give promotional cash to spend on future purchases - that keeps me going back! :) I ordered 9 yds of a beautiful boysenberry colored solid, that was on sale for half off, to use with the 'Ring Cycles' quilt pattern I purchased earlier in the week from Etsy as a download. I've been thinking about making this quilt for a while, so I finally committed. I've always wanted to make an EPP quilt and Keepsake had Tula Pink's - 'Tula's Bloomers' pattern & papers set as well as the acrylic templates to cut the fabric shapes with - wish me luck, it's a big quilt! I LOVE the ruler rack you have - 'Doohiky' was my late mother's favorite word for anything she didn't know the word for! I will be ordering one tonight! I too love Woolies flannels, have used them for years and have a stash of them. They stay soft and their colors don't fade like some flannels I've used. The Fiskar's rag scissors are the best, I even bought a spare pair in case I lose/misplace one of them. Can one ever have enough CG rulers? Nope! LOL! Best around although I do have a couple of the Olfa brand non-slip rulers as well. Happy quilting! Kitty Ann >^,,^
@@thesimplequilter7499 Keepsake was one of the first really large online quilting goods retailers that I can recall, I am happy they continue on in these perilous times for retailers.
@@thesimplequilter7499 I ordered a DooHikey ruler stand last night - aqua - although the red almost won! 😸The aqua will go better with the curtains in my room although they have some red in the print - maybe I should have gone with red! Either way, I'll be glad to have somewhere for my smaller rulers! Have a great week!🤗
Just recently I placed an order with Wawak sewing supplies for the first time, and was quite pleased with the selection, order process, accurate order and prompt delivery. Will use them again in the future for my quilting supplies.
I've not had luck with a suction cup magnet pin holder. I got the "kitty" one from Fat Quarter a couple years ago. I may have to look into snips. It would help with rag quilting. I'll have to find your video. Must have missed that one. I have th magnetic pin older you said looks like a bar of soup. I've been very happy with it. I may have to check out that ruler round up. Thanks for sharing!
Thread magic works great for my cotton thread! I bought the pack that had the tiny little doodad full of thread magic you stick on your sewing machine - the cotton thread runs through it while you sew. My cotton thread didn't break as much during FMQ after I started using it. That suction cup pin holder - suction cups will eventually pop up, hopefully not when it's full of pins that will scatter as soon as it falls off your machine (and could be why it was on clearance, others didn't want to purchase a suction cup one). You could get a regular pin minder and use nano-tape to stick it on your machine and it still stay put. I haven't been on a shopping spree lately but, since I have rheumatoid arthritis, I normally purchase my sewing equipment and fabric online and various shops.
I would love to have the ruler stand but I dont have a table top area to spare. Mine are all hanging on pegboard. I also have had bad luck with the suction magnetic pin holder. Ended up tossing it. You are so cute. Love your down to earth personality. ❤
Thank you for these ideas! Yes, I online shop. I got into the habit of shopping online since Covid. I rarely shop in stores anymore. I have gone vertical to keep my work surfaces clear. I keep my rulers hanging on my IKEA peg board above my cutting station. The large board holds them within easy reach. I love flannel. I am working on making baby boxes for my 10 grandkids. They are growing up fast and will have kiddos of their own in no time. I am thinking ahead in case I have health issues later on. They'll have something from "Nana" when the time comes. It includes a baby quilt out of regular cotton, but I am making burp cloths, changing pads, bibs, etc. out of flannel. Right now, I have a frozen shoulder, so I've had to rest it, but I hope to be back sewing soon!
I buy online from Fat Quarter Shop, Missouri Star, and when they have sales, two quilt shops in my state that are too far from me to drive to. My most recent purchase came from Missouri Star on one of their free shipping days. I buy from them on free shipping days because I’m usually buying just a few items that I can’t find elsewhere. I bought 7 skeins of variegated DMC embroidery floss for 69 cents each, a great price. I also bought a package of milliner’s needles for making French knots and 3/4-yard cuts of two Jelly & Jam fabrics that weren’t available elsewhere. Finally I bought yardage of two neutral Moda solids that I use for pillow backing linings and slow stitch embroidery. One of the cuts had a weaving flaw that I’ll have to cut around. Neither piece’s color quite matched previous purchases of those colors. I’ve learned that every dye lot of solids can be different. I would be afraid to use that red flannel unwashed and untreated with Synthrapol and Retayne, especially if the white is in the same rag quilt. How do you plan to handle the bleeding potential?
I am basically hoping it doesn’t bleed!!! I will leave washing instructions for the future owners. I will also wash the quilt with color catchers before I gift them. I need to do a colorfast test on them. I don’t know why but I have never thought of flannels bleeding….not sure why?
Hi! I love love love flannel and woolies is my favorite. I have storage boxes full of them. The pewter is one I don't have so I will take care of that next 😂 the packaging of that ruler stand is over board but at least it's not plastic. My go to rulers just hang around on my sewing table the rest, not alot, stay in my drawer. Red is also my favorite color! I couldn't find most of what I now have in red so I have aqua my next favorite color.
I bought a ruler holder on Etsy that I absolutely love. It has 20 slots and the rulers fit perfectly. It is about 7.5 x 8 inches. It was under $30. I looked up the price of your Dohikey ruler holder....Wow!! I got more than twice the ruler holder you did at about half the cost!
I have the same ruler rack in red and I love it. I keep larger rulers in mine. It's heavy enough that it doesn't tip over. You will love it.Thanks for showing all your new goodies.
I LOVE flannel! Last year I made a giant maple leaf quilt with a Woolies layer cake in fall colors. It was SO soft & cuddly! First, it was our fall sofa quilt, then it served as our winter bed quilt.
I love your ruler holder. So cute! Great haul. You're blessed to have your sister close to sew with. Mine lives 2K miles away, and she doesn't sew either.
Yesterday I just wash one I finished. I was disappointed to see the fabric had pilled up in places. 😢. All fabric was quilt shop quality flannels. That has only ever happened to me when I used lower quality fabrics….😩☹️
I bought the red tool box from Harbor Freight that you told us about. I also got the extended magnetic wand and the magnetic dish for pins. Love them all. Thank you for telling us about them. God bless.
I love flannel as well! More economical than Minkee most of the time. I have bought patterns online from Coriander Quilts, Fabric Cafe, Amazon, & Missouri Star together with their new pattern.
I got a name brand magnetic pin holder when it was on clearance at Wal-Mart a few years ago. The suction cup refuses to adhere to anything, BUT I am able to place it on the throat of my machine and use it that way. Very handy, but I would not pay full price for it.
Me too, name brand, won’t stick, even after cleaning both the surface and the suction cup. Disappointing. I use the magnet dishes from Harbor Freight. 4:48
I have used thread magic for years! I love it for beading, and I use it for hand quilting. It makes a huge difference, cuts down on thread knots tremendously. I do online shopping a lot because I get frustrated trying to find things locally. I buy locally when I can because I think it's important, but I'm not going to be paying extra for the privilege.
No shopping for quilting things, but you show some neat things to think about. I use bees wax for my EPP. I find that the thread still knots occasionally. I would like to know if anyone has compared the two products.😊 thanks again Michelle.
I don't have the Doohiky rack but something similar for my smaller rulers that I keep right next to my machine and I would replace it in a minute if for some reason it got broken.. I also would never sew by hand without Thread Magic. The 4.5 X 8.5 ruler is another item I always have on hand. Something I recently bought and absolutely love is a small rotating cutting mat. It's round with a diameter of 8". I keep it next to my machine for when I'm trimming HST's or FG units.
LOL, my shopping spree has been with Keepsake Quilting. I wait for the sales and extra dis counts then shop away. I live in Canada so I must pay attention to exchange as well. They have wonderful sales and great quality fabrics.
I love the teal color of the Ruler Roundup. If we lived closer I would offer to buy it from you so you could get the red color. 😢. I am going to try and find one. Right now I use a napkin holder, but the Ruler Roundup would be fantastic!!!
I need to get new scissors I have the long Fiskar sissors but they have stopped working. Seem to be sprung. Will look up these for my rag quilts. I love flannels I rarely order fabric on line unless I have no plan for it. I order bundles or single fat quarters but need to see fabric. This is one of the hardest part of quilting for me. I don’t like things sitting around and so I have my long rulers attached with command hooks on one of my cabinets and the speciality ones in a binder in zipper pockets(I love this hack from you). I keep my go to rulers beside my machine where I cut and trim. Also keep my turn table right there. I am on a use what I have for over a year now. If I need material it is to finish a project
Yes, I online shop for fabric all the time! I have many different online fabric stores and get really good sales. I don’t buy fabric from Amazon because the ones I have bought are terrible quality.
That doohickey ruler holder looks very cool. Is it made out of wood or a composite? I have a local country store near me that recently had a sale on what they call “flatfolds”. I paid $2.99 a yard for Moda fabrics. I bought an awful lot of them.
Almost all my shopping is online as I live in a rural area. Those bobbin toppers are neat, do you think they will work on thread spools other than Aurifil?
