I played a match where a smol little low BR light tank met my Maus and made friends with him (I forget which tank) I asked if I can be friend in my AMX and rushed over. He said "hi amx! :) And I said hello and gave head pats. When I left he said bye amx :D. We met again later and did the same thing the next game. Super wholesome.
I play this tank up to 9.7 sometimes, and it’s still competitive for me, the armor can still be trolly and the round is good enough that it can still clap quite a few higher tanks
This tank as well as IS-7 were the two things that required extreme dedication of having no social life or any life outside War Thunder for weeks to follow
I actually grinded the event to both the 279e and the a4u, but I was dumb and chose the a4u because I hadnt gone down the Russian line yet. Regret because it's not even a plane I take out often
Pro tip for the 279’s overpen that happens really often, shoot at the light vehicle’s turret ring. It gives the shell more surfaces to go through such as the armor, ring, and breach. This gives a higher chance of the shell detonating before it goes out the other side cause it connects with more surfaces
So it still overpens even if the shell goes throught several components of a tank and still doesnt explode. Its just a broken damage model of light tanks.
@@nikolaperic6307 you mean all tanks. Light tanks have the same "model" of all other tanks, only difference is they are made of aluminum cans. If components in a light tank dont set off the round, neither will the components in a heavier tank.
@@nikolaperic6307 One reason you aim for the turret ring is because a lot of light tanks don't have the armor to set off the fuse for the APHE shell, but the turret ring is thick enough to trigger it.
I really want this tank, but it just isn't worth 400$ USD i have thought about buying this for years and i just can't justify 400$ i should have got it when it was below 100$ ..
That ending was freaking impeccable.. you really couldn't ask for a better ending. It's so rare and wholesome.. especially in a game like this one. Thank you for sharing this Phly! May the War Thunder gods smile upon you!
2:35 trading WT marketplace vehicles for real money would essentially make them NFTs, but with the benefit that you can actually do something with them rather than it just being a monke picture
To answer your question about the Ammo, when I was a Loader on the Abrams we would keep a combat load in the Ready Rack as the Loader I always made sure I had access to all round types at all times. Since Gaijin doesn't let us pick the rounds for the ready rack they did the next best thing and let us switch between the two.
The Object 279 has an autoloading mechanism of sorts. It has a magazine that holds a certain number of shells that must all be used before the magazine is refilled. The tank's loader was there to place separate propellant charges for the rounds, or to reload the shells in the autoloading magazine. That's the issue Phly was getting at, the tank wouldn't be able to switch ammo types on the fly.
I'm so glad I was able to unlock the 279 and the black skin during the 2020 event. Honestly, it's probably my favorite most played tank in the game right now. And it was even more fun when the PUMA first came out at like BR 9.0 and the 279 was one of the few tanks it had difficulty penning so I went on a little personal missions to destroy any PUMAs I could find lol
@@gibthegrey2214 same deal, but I picked up that Sledgehammer skin, and I think I like it more; also helps I think of the song with the same name every time I play it
10:45 i always think about it as a Shroedinger's shell. Like there's a shell that's both AP and HE at the same time and if you switch to one of those reality changes to as if you already loaded one of them in ready rack.
Just some FYI real life the first Stage Ammo Rack will have Multiple types of Ammo in it because you never know what enemy you will run into and what shell you need at that time.
My girlfriend and I grinded for this tank, such a relief after like 2 or so weeks of All day grinding for this machine. It was rough since we play on console
I remember meeting a friend once in WT it was Ferdinand and i play T-34-57 we talk on chat and after frendly bump everyone went their own way. I salute this players. Great vid as always.
10:15 an answer to the hard question. You can switch between ammo types from the first stage ammo rack, because it is probably got a mix of the two ammo types already in it. For example, the Obj 279 has a 12 round first stage ammo rack, so in Phly's case, there would be an equal amount of the two ammo types in it (7x APHE, 5x HE) realistically ofc.
Hey Phly, just here to say thanks. Because you always bring to us smile. Btw, i'm from france and can you do a vid on AMX 40? Thx keep it up , love your vids
1st Stage Ammo imo simulates a "Ready Rack" unless it's vehicles running an auto loader which imo should have to be specific ammo types. So in most tanks with early auto loaders I'd call them drum or mag loaders. whatever is loaded in the drum/mag should be what you have access to. Most modern autoloading mechanisms actually allow for shell switches but it's still whatever is in the rear of the turret.
usually tankers kept a mix or AP and HE in the ready rack or 1st stage ammo storage, the majority of which was AP, they usually kept 1-2 HE rounds ready to go in case they came across a light armor, unarmored vehicles, or infantry.
Hey Phly!! I'm just starting to get into the higher br's with tanks and aircraft. Could you some show your key bindings sometime for us. There's so many controls and I dont know how I should start off selecting which keys to use. Thanks!!
10:25 It's the same thing with the Swedish Strf 9040's, those vehicles are magazine fed yet you can switch between the ammo types without unloading and reloading the magazine. I ain't complaining though cause that would suck!
I remember watching you play this a really, really long time ago. Now you have a wife and kid and I have a (small- but existent) youtube channel! Oh, how things change. Love to see that you're still producing content all these years later, Phly, and I wish you the best!
An "impenetratable" beast roaring the surface of enemy lands, after returning to Earth. Ngl this tank is still pretty nice, i'm glad i got it in the event.
Honestly, even though WT can get kinda grind without a premium account, I still love going back to it just to have genuine fun like the last game. The WT tank can be genuinely fun to play with and wholesome.
Frankly, there is a bit of unrealism concerning loading in general. The worst offender is that you can't change ammunition after you've loaded it, you have to fire to change round. I'm not sure how that used to be with older tanks, but in the modern tanks it's very much possible to simply open the breech, pull out the round (there's even a specific tool on board for that if you can't do it with your hands, just gotta be careful not to rip the bottom off), put it back into the stowage, and load another shell.
Day 5: Phly, I challenge you to try and get 4 kills with the AA20 Nords in the G91 R/4 in Air RB. You can use them like the fire flash (bait headons) but with a bit more of a punch, pretty fun way to play the G91!
Day 2: A great hidden jem often looked over is the low tier T-80. It is the fastest firing tank in the game that isn’t an auto cannon or has an autoloader. And it has one of the best gun depressions a Russian tank can have at a whopping -8° of maximum gun depression. It’s turret traverse is abysmal and it’s armor is something to be desired, but the reload is absolutely amazing and I highly recommend it. (Great content as always! Your videos are always a joy to watch!) Also I wish I had the 279 ;(.
I'm proud to be part of that percentage😎😎😎.... This is the only vehicle I've been enthusiastic about, and motivated enough to grind it. It's an absolute beast most of the time (in uptiers it's difficult to play), shame I couldn't get the black camo.
I just remembered, yesterday I decided to test openai by giving it "describe war thunder if gaijin wasn't as greedy" it gave a perfect answer of basically fixing everything
Heya Phly, phor my phiphth vehicle request, I ask that you take out the Phrench AMX-50 Surbaissé, but there is a catch! You must *only* use HE. It should be an easy challenge, as the gun has a 6 second reload, and the HE penetrates 39 Millimeters of Armour. Good luck, and have Phun! (Day 46)
Day 451: Phly, I challenge you to the conphusing aerial smokescreen challenge. Destroy three enemy aircrapht with smoke shells in a single game. Good luck. o7
It's a fun and decent tank to use but it's repair cost is just silly. I got it during the UFO event, missed out on the black camo, and spent about £40 in the end. It's the one tank I really wanted added to WT so was happy to splash out for such a gem.
I got this tank at the original event, with the cool black camo. It was like 8.3, and my only vehicle near that BR in the USSR tree. I used to just bring some backups and absolutely clap the enemy team. No one knew where to shoot (still now I feel like), the gun just went through everything, it was cheap to spawn. I don't regret activating the coupon lol its one of my favourite tanks
It’s kind of weird yet quite funny that object 279 seems to struggle a bit against the non-main battle tanks, but the second it’s crosshair is on an actual MBT and it fires those shells just punch right through them like their armor’s made of soggy 1-ply toilet paper.
im on third year of Economist and, as a player of other games who allows you to convert the "Game money" at dollars, i can say that the prices of the vehicles on Golden Eagles will rise up or go down, cause Offer and Demand. While, in the other hand, the probabilities of eran Golden Eagles on the game will decrease in order to balance these Demand and lower the prices. If you don't make anything with te value of the Golden Eagles it will fall like when a country impress a lot of money from nothing.(I mean a golden eagle will value like $0.1 for example) In order to reduce the level of price of some vehicles in the market you need to increse the amount of them, like "now we, Gajin, are going to add 10.000 of Tiger 10.5 cm" and, as you say, if there is an output of the golden eagles it will lower the prices of the vehicles if people's don't demand the vehicle. (You will be seeing a over demand of money and a lower demand of products) Sorry about my english XD...
I didn't even get the chance to grind for this, or anything between 2017-19. No internet and what I did get was slow. Would be great to have a repeat even some time. After all, there's always new players coming in.
I stopped playing because of the tiger plane repair price hike right after we built that and this tank. It took a TON of hours. I loved this tank. It's so awesome.
Short term market would drop in price as people come back to retrieve their old assets and cash out. Then people that currently have interest in WT will have all those items and thanks to being able to cash out the price will climb steadily higher than ever before as people are willing to put money into the game instead of a black hole. We would probably see most vehicles cap out in the 4 figure range with the high tiers and iconic ones pushing 5. I could see the rarest of rare and cool vehicles getting close to 6 figures.
While I dont have the 279 - from what I can tell after fighting them - their main battle tactic might as well be - just driving out in the open, wait for someone to shoot at you (giving away his location), casually bounce this incoming shot, and then just kill the guy who shot and you .. repeat .. stop driving at enemy spawn point.
