All you have to do is believe in Christ for the free gift of eternal life. There is no need to do works afterward to somehow "prove" your salvation. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, as the Bible says (Acts 16:31). There is no mention of having to repent of sins or whatever. Believing that you must repent of your sins or that you'll will surely follow Jesus or that you will surely try to obey him after you get saved will never save you and will take you to hell if you always believe this heresy and never put your faith in Jesus alone for the free gift of eternal life that you only get the moment you first believe in Him.
