I think the problem with this comments section is that people don't actually know what lovechild actually means. All it means in this context is that Rodney would be the son of Jimmy Saville as a result of some short fling with his mum. Nothing to do with pedophilia or anything like that. Whilst you can argue about who knew what about Saville, one thing that everyone absolutely knew was that he was a ladies man so the joke is that anyone could potentially be Savilles love child, including Rodney.
Steven Hickman if you actually read the comments section it's pretty evident that most people who are 'outraged' over DJ's joke don't know what lovechild means or what it is referencing in this context... ffs.
pbr streetgang nope. During the 80's he was absolutely considered a 'ladies man'. He was often photographed with scantily clad models and surrounded by women during his television career. If that wasn't the case why make the lovechild joke in this sketch?
Whats meeting hitler got to do with anything? It was before WW2 he and a few of the nazi keaders shook his hand after a theatre show appreciating his acting... he didnt know he was going to be public enemy no.1 years later
Pure class this ,I have to watch at-least one show a day just puts me in a happy place haha . I heard something about them doing a one off show , do you no if that’s true ?
Did they already exist or was John sullivan the first to create them? Like the smelling bullshit line from 'happy returns' is something i've heard a lot
I've never heard anyone utter any of Del's phrases, but then again I'm from up north not in London. I don't know why OFAH has this massive fanbase even today, because most people, even those who were around back then aren't interested in comedies like this anymore they're more interested in all these strange comedies with Ricky Gervais in it where he's taking the piss out of old people, basically anything that's bingeing on Netflix. Most people seem to love all this alternative comedy rubbish written by people who've never had a proper days job and got some fancy letters after their name and think they have talent, mainly students who watch America shows like Greys Anantomy, Skins, Breaking Bad or crap sitcoms like The Big Bang Theory lol. Everyone in the UK seems to be focused on anything America now even to the point where people say "seasons" instead of series. There is no British culture left in this country.
@@Embracing01thank you for your boring and negative comment. Only fools and horses is not British culture. It is shit. It crowd etc are not written by people who have never worked they are written by geniuses who aren’t stuck in the racist 80s Get a grip and stop leaving your wife dissatisfied in the bedroom while you watch del boy all night over and over and over again while your wife is left dissatisfied in the bedroom while you watch del boy impersonators on RU-vid and practice.his catchphrases in the mirror and wonder whether Nancy at work thinks your handsome even though you’re really short and put in a few pounds while your wife is left dissatisfied in the bedroom What were we talking about ?
Here's something interesting Grandad was actually in the episode 'Hole in one' he did some filming for it shortly before his death so there is a scene from the episode where Lennard Pierce was in the scene but it was refilled with Albert.
I’m 23 but watched Only fools since a kid and still watch it over and over every week lol it’s always hilarious n I’ll always remember every line in every episode but it’s never gets old !
They were on fire, you can tell they’d been filming lots of episodes around this time, just finished Series 2 i think. Really confident with their characters.
@@ReggieK-hn1uy the last part seemed improvised. I'm not even sure Russell expected them to stay in character after thanking them under their real names.
It was a great time for TV. Today’s millennials do not appreciate this time. No Sky tv, no internet, mobile phones were just coming in. They were great times. OFAH has not aged. It’s the best comedy ever. I loved uncle Albert however, Grandad’s timing was genius.
All people can say is Jimmy Saville and smoking. How about these 3 fine actors saying all that script spot on, live and having the wherewithal to ad-lib with Russell Harty being a douche. Yes what Saville did was vile read into the script what you want. This is still great acting and none of you can appreciate it just leap on one line and be outraged. SMH
Unfortunate that this seems lost on a lot of the audience in there. Obviously not all OFAH fans. Genius. Also I think the bit with Harty' near the end is very 'Spinal Tap' to me! Excellent stuff. Never see the likes of these again.
They knew everything, the BBC protected him, it was an open secret, look at the Jonny rotten radio interview in 1978 that wasn't aloud to air and the BBC banned him 😖
I'm guessing this is from some sort of comic relief show or something like that. It's reminds me of when they did the royal variety show with Uncle Albert. At the end you see the big difference between David Jason and Nick Lyndhurst. David Jason is a natural without a script and is very good at improvisation where as Nick Lyndhurst is very shy in real life and it shows when he is outside his comfort zone. Grandad is pretty good too.
Ofc, they are the first admit that they are lost at sea without John Sullivan. I've heard all the cast say this. They don't want credit for the script. I think they did well ad-libbing, they stayed true to the characters, they just talked over each other that is all.
I used to watch the Jimmy Saville show Jim'll fix it, I used to love it. I always wondered why my old man used to say, hey, get that dirty xxxxer of my tv. Blimey, even my old man knew what he was up to and that was in the early 80's! When I look back at clips now I shudder, he has his hands wondering all over those young girls bare legs! I think many others were involved at the old BBC? He was just a scapegoat for all the very bad apples there, im sure. I actual thought the clip was a bit rubbish, I can see why it was knocked on the head.
Proper Pecker he can be a good actor if he is gay and cringey. Maybe he was playing the role he was asked. My point was that this is live and he is exactly the same, I thought del and Rodney in this scene are a bit wooden. Imo As for uncle Albert he is my favourite too.
@@hi2lenduffy837 I *TOTALLY* agree, my friend! Without doubt the episodes with just the lads in them are the best. As Grandad says when they return to the flat after hiding from Del's horrible ex fiance Pauline, "we don't need no birds." 😂
I think everyone in the show business knew about Jimmy savile. Trust me that comment @ 1:40 wasn’t coincidence they actually knew what he was all about.
Loved david jason in the episode " from prussia with love " , a think it's called when the pregnant German girl is in labour and he says to her when she says the contractions are coming fast , he says " vorsprung durch tecknik " . 😂😂😂😂
@@Swansea-hu5ok It used to be the slogan for a series of Audi adverts back then. "Vorsprung durch Technik" = "progress through technology" ..... Seeing as Del makes up all his phrases, he just said it as he'd heard it on the telly at some point lol.
Mrs. Bobby the BBC and the entertainment business is and always was quite well represented with homosexuals. That in itself is not a bad thing, John Inman being an extremely professional actor and very funny, but it would help someone like RH to get on in the business.
Mrs. Bobby you have twisted my words: because I found Russell creepy does not mean that I find all homosexuals creepy. I find John Inman a very likeable character and he was a homosexual. So please stop reading between the lines and seeing what is not there.
Some of these scenes should have been left in . I often wonder why when Rodney is going to the Oprah with that bird and In the limo a seen is cut where the driver gives him a dirty look through the rear view mirror .
A child born to unmarried parents. The thing is, Love child as two separate words in relation to saville . Lost or hidden scene? Maybe the potential repercussions , savilles power made this scene conveniently disappear. Then emerge when the ahole dies
I understand John Sullivan, the writer of OFAH, worked behind the scenes on many BBC studio shows such as The Two Ronnies (for whom he also wrote sketches) so would probably have been aware of Jimmy Saville's alleged reputation which, apparently and allegedly, was well known within BBC circles, according to the following clip. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-esKnWAIgpLY.html
Made now,and Jimmy Saville would not have even been mentioned, and if they had, then quite rightly there would have been outrage at such a sick joke.Reminds me of the sketch where Del and all the others are sitting round a table with a spiritualist medium, and there is talk of a blonde woman wearing a tracksuit with loads of jewellery and Trigger pipes up and says,"sounds like Jimmy Saville",well the last time that episode was shown as a repeat, the joke was never made-it was skipped. It would not be funny now ,now we all know what Saville got up to,and his horrendous crimes.
Theyve been repeating fools on gold this week, and i saw 2 episodes with jimmy saville references, the one you mentioned and a hole in one. Both episodes were unedited for tv broadcast.
In one episode of Til Death Do Us Part the daughter Rita goes on a rant about how Edward Heath, Cyril Smith & Jimmy Savile make her sick every time she sees them. Coincidence? No, open secret.
Still not a sick joke now, end of the day he never got charged with one single thing no dna ever found either. Anyway! In the episode slow bus to chingford, Del mentions a Jack the Ripper tour and the places he murdered his victims, isnt that just the same? And he killed.
It was a scene created for another comedian's christmas show. call it a guest appearance if you like. the scene was scripted right up until a side host came to chat to them, for a moment he introduces them as the actors, then they go right back to ad-libbing as the characters for a few moments for funsies :)
