Located in Southwestern Utah, Red Mountain Wilderness has a lot to offer!
It had been a few years since I went up and over Gunsight Pass. Initially there is a bit of route finding on the ascent to the cliff base and you generally follow a very steep and loose wash that some might consider dangerous. It's a scramble the whole way to the cliff base.
A couple things to point out, you are exposed the entire route up and down so consider the time of year you do this. Bring plenty of water, plenty. Something to replenish electrolytes as well. And enough food to replenish calories. The Gunsight Pass ascent is no joke. Neither is the descent on the Red Mountain 'trail'. There have already been multiple rescues on the Red Mountain 'trail' this year (2023). Steep and loose, both up and down. Awesome walk!
