Barbados was the blue print for chattel slavery across English America. They used Barbados as the testing ground for the greatest crime against humanity. I’m glad Barbadians have never forgotten their past and continue to strive for greatness.

chattel slavery robbed future generations of the opportunity to build any foundations. It is despicable that the law makers have not regularised persons up to now, so sad.

@@Caribbeer Robbed opportunity? Learn your history and try to understand that Chattel slavery brought the black man out of Africa and gave him opportunities in our world that he would not otherwise have had access to. Very informative videos that you do. I noticed Bardadian people are very proud of their country and they have a right to they have come far. I see a lot of changes. My great grandfather who I never met was originally from Barbados he came to Bermuda to help build up the country I found out many men from Barbados came to Bermuda to do the same some married Bermudian women had children here and never went back such did my grandfather and that's why I was born in Bermuda. My country is a little like Barbados but for the most part it looks different.

Interesting and very British indeed. Excellent educational and informative tour. I Iike the way you inform us on how to maximise on the travel and tour. Because of the way the Caribbean is commercialised for the wealthy in the west, it always felt unaffordable and complicated to get to and not holidays for people like us as the natives are never shown in these commercials. Thanks to you African you tubers who are now going in and speaking to us on how to access and showing us that in fact all these islands are dominated by people like and not the race usually marketed for. The fact that your tour starts from UK is beneficial to us as it gives us a clear indication on how we would get there and find the tour guide to show us round. Impressed and thanks for taking us round with you. Now we can create our own trip.

Surely you'd want to holiday in Africa - as in, a culture that is your own? No matter how poorly developed it is, it is your own. It's rather strange to whine about slavery, but then once released to still sit in your masters home and still whine. Build up Africa. Find pride in yourselves. Earn respect. Stop playing victim.

Thank you very much to the tour driver his assistant and yourself it brought back memories he showed some areas that I had never been to and there's also lots of good changes since I traveled there. I had travelled many countries in my life and visited Barbados seven times alone I felt the same way as you did as soon as I came of the plane I felt a peace and welcoming spirit come over me I felt at home like a free spirit person I never felt that way on any of my travels. I never encountered any problems while In Barbados. I worked with some Barbadian in the hotel industry in my country they asked me to make contact with their families on my trip who I did meet they were very nice people I was introduced into their homes and had some homemade Barbados cooking which I enjoyed I hope the same thing happens for you that's when you really feel a part of the country and it's people. I enjoyed myself on every trip the last time was in 2004 my family had a reunion on a cruise ship when the ship came in I did not recognize the place now I understand why it was a newly built piece of land and buildings. I rented a car to take some family touring and to meet some people who I had befriended over the years. I don't know if I'll get to come that way again but out of everywhere in the world if at all possible I would like to visit Barbados again. Beautiful tour.

Thank you for sharing African Tigress. The guide is excellent, beautiful view of Barbados. FYI, cricket was quite popular in Kenya years back, especially in the 90s, I guess that's why the guide asked, Maurice Odumbe was an international legend back then. The performance has really gone down though, and the public interest in the game with it I suppose.

The one bit that was misleading is about the buses. There are two bus terminals in Bridgetown. The princess alice terminal is for buses going north. There are also some bus routes that bypass Bridgetown from South to North, Speightstown is a northern hub which has some routes that are exclusive to it. I think Oistins may also have some of its own routes as well.

@kerubel1436 Africans were enslaved, not "Barbados". When Barbados was first settled it had approx. ten times more Whites than Bkacks so he's right. It was SETTLED (Colonized) by the British and the ENSLAVED Africans were subsequential imported. The Island DOES have a British heritage as PART of its culture, as you can hear the language IS English. The question of culture vs heritage is a complex topic not to be overly simplified by RU-vid "expert commenters". Facts without understanding the context doesn't necessarily = "sugar coating"... Agree?.

@6: 47 Correction! The first synagogue to be built in the Americas was built in Barbados and it was located in the northern part of the island in Speightstown. Unfortunately, that synagogue burnt down many many years ago and was never rebuilt. While there are historical records that make mention of that synagogue, due to changes in Speightstown over the centuries, the precise location of that first synagogue is not known. The synagogue which is in Bridgetown is the second oldest synagogue in the Americas. The oldest standing synagogue is in Surinam. It should be noted that the synagogue in Barbados has a very unique feature; it is the only synagogue in the Americas with a traditional bathing pool for women to cleanse themselves after their periods (i can not remember the Jewish word for it). The bathing pool was discovered by an archiology team comprised of history students from the University of the West Indies and led by Professor Karl Watson. It should also be noted that the monument in the roundabout near the Jewish synagogue is a public water tap that was gifted to the people of Bridgetown by Arab/Muslim merchants. (peep the architecture) The tap sits on top of a natural underground stream

Poverty exist in every country/ Island. but it's VERY obvious in some countries. All I'm saying IS. I didn't see any in Barbados. I didn't say it doesn't exist, but it can't be much bc I didn't see it and I went all over. No need to take what I said personally & get defensive. I've been to Curacoa & I didn't see much there either. Never been to Antigua & Barbuda, but poverty is there too. Poverty has nothing to do with size, it has to do with Government and Barbados have one of the BEST Govt in Caribbean. I can honestly say that & I'm not Bajan. Your name sounds Jamaican. IF you are, your response is typical, but I'm NOT here to debate. I simply made an observation abt Barbados & stated it. I don't live in denial. I admit, live & state Truth.

The guide is recalling "HIS-story" not history. It reminds me of Christopher Columbus "discoveries". It is what it is, to fascinate tourists.

@therealmrmaximus 1. The synagogue is the oldest in the western hemisphere, I wouldn't bat an eye at the 3 year discrepancy (1651 vs 1654). Sometimes, one slips up.. 2. What's "wrong" about the trident? 3. Relative to the currency, I THINK he said *_"...maybe_*_ the highest currency in the caribbean when tagged to the U.S. dollar.."_ (??) so that doesn't seem to be an assertion. You can recheck to see if it was more of an assertion vs. being a kind of a guess...

@@vittmanvittman4915 It wasn't my intentions to debate the discrepancies but here's my take on his errors: 1: The Synagogue was listed as the first built in the Americas not the Western Hemisphere. The original was destroyed. The oldest in the Western Hemisphere is in Portugal is we need to be technical. The oldest in the Americas is in Curacao. 2: To say that Barbados has "150+ different types of Christianities" is ludicrous. Fifty would be a stretch but more realistic. 3: The guide said "our currency, in the Caribbean, is maybe the highest when you put to the US dollar...". Not as valuable as the Bahamian or the Cayman dollar. 4: Antigua was also only colonized by the British contrary to his belief. 5: The trident on the flag is the trident of Poseidon AND it was held by Britannia. The guide said it has nothing to do with Poseidon which is not true. 6. Carlisle Bay is not another name for Brownes Beach as he alluded. Brownes Beach and Pebbles Beach are beaches in Carlisle Bay. 7: Anglicans are still the largest denomination in Barbados contrary to his view as well. He highly contradicts himself by stating earlier the island has 150+ types of Christianities which would mean approximately each "type" has about two churches. 8: His definition of a city is highly erroneous. He says "it means having cathedrals". Again quite incorrect. It's just simply a population settlement. 9: He goes on to list Cathedrals in town and mentions Bethel and St. Mary's churches. Both do not have bishops so they cannot be cathedrals. 10: He erred again by saying the Fairchild Street bus terminal ( I still use that name) is the only bus terminal where all buses travel from to all areas of the island. No truth there. He forgot the Lower Green terminal which services the north and Oistins terminal. 11: I disagree the first settlers were the English. If the original name of Bridgetown was Indian Bridge it meant others were there before and there is no disputing how ruthless the British were. So the first settlers would have to be the Arawak, Kalinago, or Garifuna or a combination of.

@therealmrmaximus A couple of notable things: 1. Portugal is 2,742.63 miles (4,413.83 km) north of the equator, so it is located for the most part in the northern hemisphere to my knowledge. Curacao is definitely in the Western hemisphere, tho... 2. Given that there are over *_45'000 Christian denominations_* in existence, it suggests that an island having 150+ may not necessarily be a "stretch." The U.S. has about 200 denominations, for example. 3. Classically, the definition of "city" *does* include cathedrals. it's just that terms evolve over time. For example, there was a time when "usury" meant lending with zero interest. Today, usury means quite the opposite... Great observations, by the way. 👍 👍

It is nice to know you are friendly with Jamaican but yes I was told that's true by a Barbarian and Jamaican but I got conflicting information as to why.

Why would that be of any importance to her. All of her videos blogs are about her Barbados tour not her Jamaica tour. A bajan or an African wouldn't be interested in such divisive thinking. Actually i find most Bajans and Africans to be very intelligent when you open your ears and listen. Let the Bajans diamond shine. These are some of the prettiest and most informative videos I've ever seen coming out of the Caribbean in years. Do you not see how beautiful and clean those black Barbados people keep their country? Do you not notice their intelligence, kindness, and friendliness.? Comment on the things we are seeing. Not foolish crap. 7:03

Why What Did Barrow Do Wrong! ?
@ZpointG
@ZpointG 9 месяцев назад
@maztrex3598 He did many "wrongs"... like he only set the foundation for the *_high standard of living and prosperity_* that Barbados today enjoys despite its small size and few natural resources. Thanks to Mr. Barrow, Barbadians now benefit from *_free education from primary to tertiary level, free school meals, the National Insurance Scheme, and countless other social safety nets._* Barrow's foreign policy emphasized principles of regional and international cooperation along with a strong sense of sovereignty and independence, he is famous for his quote: “friends of all; satellites of none”. Mr. Barrow had excellent relations and close friendships with his regional contemporaries and along with other regional greats like Norman and Michael Manley of Jamaica, Dr. Eric Williams of Trinidad & Tobago and Forbes Burnham of Guyana, just to name a few, belonged to a group of post-colonial Caribbean leaders who had a sense of national pride, and saw that their countries’ economic survival needed development within a regional framework. *_Under Barrow, Barbados was one of the founding members of the Caribbean Free Trade Area (CARIFTA) in 1965 and its predecessor, the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM)_* in 1973 which he described as “a giant step for us all." I'm sure if the obvious hater who thinks Barrow was "the biggest idiot" had done HALF of what Barrow did, he would think of himself as the greatest thing since sliced bread. 🙄 🙄 🙄
