I love looking for all kinds of rocks, minerals, anything that catches my eye. I get yelled at by my husband and kids because they have to come and find me when we are traveling and have to stop. Some people say it’s just a rock, but my eyes love the colors, the textures, and you get my point. I wish I’d seen you years ago. You make it all look so easy, but there are a lot of different rocks out there… lol

Pro tip bring a big umbrella to cast shade or hunt in the morning evening when the sun isnt so bright. They really pop in the shade but the sun kinda lightens them an makes them harder to spot. In the shade they look extremely dark.

They are spread over a very large area. From the main area along Haekel Road I have found them as far east as the New Mexico border and to the south as far as Bowie, Arizona. There are several areas that produce translucent obsidian nodules but the Saffordite area has the easiest access for collectors.

Ohh goodness. 😊 So we found some rocks like this off Vulturemine road. I was calling them Apache Tears. I didn’t know there was obsidian called Saffordite. I believe you said the area you’re at is the only place they can be found, so the ones I found must be Apache tears. They look the same to me. Good information to know thank you sharing this.

Love your channel. And your love for rocks. You talked about your geology 101 and would love some more info about that. I don't know anything about rocks. It's just something that runs in the family. Rock hunting with my Grandma when I was younger was my favorite thing in the whole world to do. My first rock I learned about was leaverite lol, so I just need a little help. Nice video Ellie! you have just answered a mystery I have been dealing with for a few years, your Saffordite is NOT the only place in the world to find ejecta obsidian. it's just not named at all, and not in Arizona...I have found the same exact obsidian bombs in Northern California in Lassen county. it's up the road a few miles from home, can't access it in the winter/ actually until about June 1st. I have pictures of them but I tumbled most and ruined those ones. if you have a Facebook account I can send you a picture of some of mine. soooo the big question is what are they really worth, there really hard to find at once I had a quart jar full! have a good time hounding, snow won't let most here hound for a few weeks yet. fellow Rock hound Will Allen.

Moldavite isn't from space either. It is a tektite formed when a meteorite hit the Earth. The heat and impact from the meteorite melts the Silica rich rock which then solidifies. Moldavite is not part of the meteorite nor is it from space.
