What’s also awesome about this movie. Is the director heard the news of the Hotshots in an Airport. Flew to Az and went to Prescott and just sat in the park. He was very touched by what happen so that’s why he made this movie so people could hear there story. One of the guys in the movie wasn’t an actor his best friend was killed so they let him play that part. He had one line and was the guy who opened the beer with the chainsaw.

As a Volunteer Firefighter who's put out a lot fires I appreciate this movie. Seems like too many people don't understand how all fire fighters put their lives on the line every time we fight a fire. Hope this movie makes people more aware and more appreciative of their local fire fighters. I myself will honor all 19 fire fighters.

this happens over and over again... my brother was in a burnover, my sister had a near miss responding to the Storm King fire where friends of hers were killed. For the love of God, don't move out into the wildlands and don't start fires. People's actual families, not just movie characters... are dying out there.

Never underestimate the power of bravery. The title of this movie is the perfect representation of what happened to the men who lost their lives trying to protect the ones they loved. If you haven't seen this movie, you need to. Just saw the movie last night. I served on Engine 3-11 at the Texas Canyon ranger station in Saugus, California in 1979 (Nickname, "Blind Man", because I always wore dark sunglasses). We had one of the only 4X4 Model 60 pumpers in the Angeles National Forest, and it was always breaking down, so our crew combined with our Texas Canyon Hotshots often. Their ride was a converted green school bus with a Zuni Indian emblem on it. I have harrowing yet unforgettable memories from fires I had the privilege of fighting alongside BOTH crews! Mistakes were of course made, contributing to this particular tragedy, but valuable lessons were learned as well. Regardless, this movie ripped me up inside and still haunts me this morning. I will never forget our "Fire Card" trainer calling our fire tents "Baked Potatoes", because they were silver back then, and if the fire persisted around you, instead of moving past you, it would literally cook you inside! God bless these poor brothers and their families!!! It's every 'shots and wildland firefighters worst fear! Painful, but excellent movie! Maybe more exposure will help the USDA restore so many of the Shot crews they decommissioned due to budget cuts!

written by two other wives of the GMHS>>>Only the Brave is a Hollywood movie based on the personal stories of only- surviving member Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew Brendan McDonough, deceased Superintendent of Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew Eric Marsh, and Eric’s wife, Amanda Marsh. The movie is based on several true events, but in no way, is it a documentary, nor is it historically accurate. It is neither an accurate accounting of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew or the events of the Yarnell Hill Fire, where 19 of the 20 man crew died....Know that this movie will not answer questions about what happened that day, outside of loss. Nor does it represent how any of the other families, outside of the two mentioned earlier, reacted or dealt with this tragedy. Remember this is a Hollywood movie. It does not show complete truth, it is just a movie.

Maybe someone will make a movie about one of John MacLean's books, such as "Thirty-Mile Fire", a chronicle of a forest fire that killed four young firefighters in 2001, or Fire on the Mountain, or his father's book, "A River Runs Through It". We should never forget these or any of the others who gave their lives to save someone else's forest or homes.

Simply incredible. Living in Montana we get wildfires out here a lot. Summer of 2017 burned a ton of acreage, well over a million and we always thought about the firefighters who put their lives on the line, especially the ones coming from out of state. I remember this fire and when these men died and at age 26 I couldn't help but think wow most of those guys were around my age. Brave men doesn't even begin to cover it and their families are just as brave and sacrifice just as much. So to all of those men and women who fight fires everywhere in this world I want to thank you for putting your lives on the line to keep people like me and my own family safe.

This movie, albeit being about fire, gives me the chills. I can imagine the actors promoting how heartfelt story it is about brave americans, who are willing to go above and beyond to save and take care of their loved ones and how this was made to reassure the audience that no matter what they do, they are doing the right thing and living in the american lifestyle burning wood, coal, oil, gasoline, kerosene, butane, diesel, petroleum, crude oil, bunker fuel etc. without any worries about tomorrow because the brave hotshot teams are there to put out any fires which might surround them. And the audience just laughs at the woman who peed in her pants. Edit: From what I gathered from the comments, americans didn't actually seem to care when this came out.

I'm a journalist from Slovenia and the first thought that came into my mind when watching this movie yesterday was: I wonder how fast fires spread and why didn't the main character played by Josh Brolin calculate the distance to safety when he was up on the burned top of the hill. I found out on internet that it can be a stagering 22 kph which is faster than the speed of a marathon runner. I think he made a huge mistake. I also found out that in 2013 the protective aluminium was used 1200 times and failed 42 times (including these 19 times from the movie). Children could learn a lot from this and from the movie. I certainly did. All the best to you!

So last night I was able to see an early showing of "Only the Brave". I was a little worried going in that it was going to change too much, alter events, etc. and not do enough to honor the men who lost their lives battling that blaze. I can now say, I was Very satisfied with the film. The acting was good, the fire scenes not too overly exaggerated, and the whole film moved nicely, keeping people interested through the whole thing (a little over 2 hours long). I would have to say my only issues were some of the films editing, and the feeling that they could have added a little more to the last few minutes before cutting the the credits (though there was a nice tribute to the real men of the crew right before the full credits started). Regarding the editing, there are a few cuts throughout the film that jump the story ahead very suddenly (You are watching a scene, and as it's ending, it cuts, and is now 3 months later... this happens a couple times with the next being 9 months, and the last 3 years). Its not a smooth cut either, with something like a fade out. Just a quick cut that throws you off for a second. So that could have been transitioned better. Regarding the ending... it goes from the incident, to a scene with the families at the high school gym crying, plus a one other short scene outside the gym... to 3 years later with a two scenes depicting the crew supervisors wife, and the other, the sole surviving remember of the team with his daughter. I feel they could have at least shown the memorial service for the crew, and the outpouring for them and their families from around the country, then maybe spent a little more time showing the lives of all the families a few years later. So those are pretty much my only two issues, the rest of the film was Very well done, and I feel did justice to the crew, and their sacrifice. I only wish they had managed to show the personal lives of more of the crew members, but I understand why they focused mostly on just a few of them. I highly recommend everyone take the time to go see this film when it opens up next weekend (Oct. 20th). Especially anyone who has spent time on the line before. You will not be disappointed.

Per a few of the wives of the GMHS>>>>"..Only the Brave is a Hollywood movie based on the personal stories of only- surviving member Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew Brendan McDonough, deceased Superintendent of Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew Eric Marsh, and Eric’s wife, Amanda Marsh. The movie is based on several true events, but in no way, is it a documentary, nor is it historically accurate. It is neither an accurate accounting of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew or the events of the Yarnell Hill Fire, where 19 of the 20 man crew died...Know that this movie will not answer questions about what happened that day, outside of loss. Nor does it represent how any of the other families, outside of the two mentioned earlier, reacted or dealt with this tragedy. Remember this is a Hollywood movie. It does not show complete truth, it is just a movie. "

Here's an interesting thing that happened. My audio glitched and there was no score/music playing just dialogue and it made the trailer way more ominous as it increased the tension making the film appear more interesting and unique. Watching it again with the music makes it way more generic

6’3 black guy here. Not like height and race should matter for this comment, but I may have teared at 2 movies in my 22 years of life. I balled my eyes out for “Only the Brave”. Only movie ive seen in the theaters where people are still wiping their tears even when the credits have concluded and the lights come one. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Being from Prescott and not at all racist, your comment made ME tear up, what an honor, though I'm not ready to see the move yet...too soon. Folks have called the movie racist for having no black actors, but it's just the territory as we are a small old western town, but still growing. I am glad that you see it for what it was, a tragedy in a close knit community that almost everyone knew of or knew the family of the 19 lost. It was a very sad and confusing time for us, thank you for feeling the tragedy that was ours 4 years ago June 30th. I just see you as a big blubberin' man with feelings...but what were the other 2 movies you teared up at? ;)

I remember the call I got from the sister of one of the Hotshots--her brother called to say they were not i n a good spot. and the fire had turned....she asked for prayers. Then there was silence. I'm still praying for their families. . My daughter is living in the midst of the fires in N. California right now. I am so thankful for our firefighters and first responders and the bravery of our citizens.
