Amazon must've seen all the people leaving to different products and immediately announced that they are keeping side loading and adding new better features lol
@@MrBertWayne ehh... cant say my 4k maxes are kicking my Onn 4k boxes @$$. 1 i definitely have more freedom with Onn. i have more stutter movement on the FS vs Onn. i use the same cleaning tools on both to keep it fair. the more storage definitely helps with being able to add more apps without having to setup a bunch of extra cables and adaptors. its not a world beater but overall i am happier with this setup in comparison. i have 3 Onn 4k pro boxes and 1 Onn 4k box. all my FSs are now used for travel.
MelVin , my brO , 😁 Thank U 4 the Review .. Ive been using the Onn 4K for a few months now , I Like it , Got like 20 3rd Party apps installed ( No Problem at All ) and I still have 5G of Storage left .. All the apps work Good like on the 4K Fire stick except for Y_Tube . I Like the Stop , 4-ward and Reverse buttons on the F/stick remote , Onn remote doesnt have that capability . So $ 50 vs's 19 $ to get More Storage , Remote Finder and a Few other features ,, IS Well Worth IT !!! I did like Troy Points video how to get it to the Set-up Menu's to Change Alot of features , like Scale size , Speed etc .. I also like that the Onn box will Power OFF in 15 minutes with No activity , adjustable in Settings .. Great VideO cool .. Ty 🤘
Hello! Wondering if you were able to successfully install TVTap or TV Mob? Have tried to get these to install from multiple sources. They work fine on phone and multiple tablets but either crash or give me "authentication failed" message.
The coaxial power connector is the dumbest thing you can put on a modern device and a total deal breaker for me. There is no reason that device cant be powered using standard USB-C
@@sc5015 I've been an electronics/gadgets, PC building and technology nerd at least 31 years (built my first PC at 16 and I've never heard it referred as that. So I guess you learn something new even when you're old! I bet it's referred to that because it's something from the "electronic technician" industry. Never been in the actual industry as repair tech or anything.... 🤪🤪
But yes barrel jack/coaxial power ports are ridiculous in this day. I especially find it ridiculous they're on the Google Nest Hub Max displays, like come on even the Nest mini speakers have micro USB on some of them before they switched to the BJ
Sadly it's not a "fire stick killer" while the onn box itself is extremely smooth, browsing and playing content and all. It fails to play 4k Remux files which is pretty disappointing, it makes no sense tho because the device feels much snappier than the stick.
100mbps ethernet port? didn't the firetv also have that. i guess you could get better speeds over wifi or use a usb3 ethernet adapter, but i wish they wouldn't cheap out on a "pro" device for those of us that want to keep it plugged in
Companies are clinging to obsolete port standards such as 10/100 Fast Ethernet and USB 2.0. Those two standards should have been phased out years ago. No excuse for these types of devices to not have at the bare minimum USB 3.0 and Gigabit Ethernet ports. At least this box has a USB 3 0 port.
Hey Triple M, just setup my Onn yesterday, installed KODI 21 and I was trying to get to a zip file on connected USB drive. For some reason. KODI didn't show any zip files(repositories) on USA, just directories. I used to be able to do it all the time on my NVidia. Do I have to do something in order to be able to get to a zip file on USA? Great videos, BTW
Ugh, why do they keep putting those annoying streaming service buttons on these remotes? There are about 3 dozen different services now, and most people are going to only have 1 or 2 of these, which are completely unnecessary anyway since it takes literally 3 seconds to push a home button and click on a thumbnail to open an app.
Great video that benchmark told me that we should wait and see what google is going to bring to the table. This device is more of a plus then a pro device after see this video thnaks this helped me out a lot
Anybody having trouble with soundbar pairing? Mine pairs ok but it doesn't power off with the tv when I hit the power button on the remote. I have to manually turn it off. Volume controls work fine. BTW - great video I saved it for future reference.
When I try to connect via Ethernet using the USB mine won’t connect. Is there something I need to do to fix that? When I plug the Ethernet wire directly into the Ethernet hole it works, but at that slower 10/100. What am I doing wrong? Update: after being plugged in for a few minutes it connected. Doesn’t make sense why it took so long but it worked,….but slow. 125.79 download and upload was 114.61. Wi-Fi is much much quicker on this Pro Device.
Please put a warning way ahead of time on any products you are reviewing where you say the trigger word to activate your and potentially anyone else's personal assistant.
Yes, it's so difficult to replace a couple of dirt cheap AAA batteries once a year. I'd much rather have to constantly plug-in my remote to charge it and then when the non-replaceable battery dies, I can just throw the entire remote away and spend $50 on another one. If replacements are still even available.
@@nodak81 constantly plug in remote ? LOL,charge once it and lasts for months. U need to use a chargeable remote or mouse once!! keeping a bunch of aaa cells in stock is definitely a pain with the number of gadgets and remotes these days.
Not a fan of the form factor…too big compared to the firestick. Don’t like the wall wart, compared to the firestick’s use of usb power. No optical audio out. And a 10/100 ethernet port? Really? Why no gigabit port? Will not be replacing my firestick unless my sideloaded apps stop working or disappear. And at that point, I may go back to taking my nvidia shield on the road vs spending money on one of these.
@@philiprobar I have 5 other people in my house, all using multiple devices at the same time. In a hotel it’s not an issue, but at home it could be. Regardless, gigabit is becoming the standard, no reason not to include it, really.
Hi, does this streaming box get really hot like the streaming sticks do? If so can you turn it off at night? I used to have a Roku streaming Stick and it would get really hot to the touch so I would unplug it when not in use because it concerned me. Also thanks for the video I'm trying to decide whether to buy one of these or not. I just found out on another video that this pro version runs cool!😊
For once Walmart has a decent product that I'm actually interested in. But what I like the most about this product is to find your remote that is a very very handy feature in kudos to the engineers of Walmart.
Is this faster than the $20 Onn box? I have one of those and it’s very laggy for me when navigating the screens and opening/closing apps. I’m overall disappointed it, but I guess I can’t complain for $20.
Sounds like an animation issue. Reduce it to .5 or turn it off all together. Might want to use a custom launcher as well. That being said and to answer your question it is definitely faster. Better CPU, More ram (always improves performance) and more storage (also helps).
I got mine the other day, fast and smooth on all the apps like K21 and Tivimate, im using it for the guest room (having Shields as my mains) but this would be great for a main device for anyone! Great review as usual MMM!!
Love this product and you did a great review good job and thank you. Blows my mind it doesn't have a 10/100 / 1000 ethernet port. The one and only thing I can find that sucks about it.
@@philiprobar you missed my point, re-read my comment. How could it have 20 year old technology of a 10/100 ethernet port and not a 1/100/1000 which has been standard for 10 plus years.
The only issue I've personally seen for far is when I say hey Google while watching RU-vid it gives me the answer but it doesn't let the video resume automatically after Google gives you the answer. You actually have to hit the back button or something. Very strange why it doesn't just resume after Google is done answering anything.
Can it be used offline after the initial setup if you're playing videos from the USB port? Basically, could you take it to a hotel and use it as a media player without connecting it to wifi?
Walmart is basically trying to sell off the old devices first. I was told and refused to be sold a new 2024 Onn player because they said the are trying to sell off the old devices before selling the new ones. They told me they had them in the back but would not sell me one. That kind of crap is that??
What internet speed do you pay for? I am wondering if it is possible to get 800 plus Mbps using a usb to gigabit Ethernet adapter. 16 Gb storage, gigabit Ethernet and a USB 3.0 port would make much more sense than the combination on this device.
READ THIS BEFORE BUYING / AS OF RELEASE DATE!!!!!! 1. DTS HDMA 7.1 Atmos NOT supported! 2. Dolby True HD NOT supported! 3. Only 100mps Ethernt Port. 4. Build in speaker DOESN'T support music playback, turns on tv to use it's speaker. 5. Backlit remote is not guaranteed, included with some units & not with others.
The Operating System alone makes it better than any amazon device. Comes with only a 10/100 LAN port BUT can purchase an external 3.0 USB dongle 10/100/1000 to make it 1GB
I have a Fire Cube and I have never come close to running out of storage. I have been using it for at least 3 years and have never had a storage problem.
@@lamb88ertSame rules apply to the 3rd gen fire cube's similar Ethernet port. I got a 3.0 USB Gigabit Ethernet hub hooked up to it and I'm getting increased speeds as well.
Very nice video, thank you. I had my onn. bought for me by my relatives in the US and will receive it in the next couple of days, maybe tomorrow (in Albania), and I'll see.
@@Triple_M It seems like you reviewed it already..4yrs ago!😅..but you called by a different name. It doesn't have *iClever mini Portable...* in the title.
I just got a small question. I guess I’m a little slow when it comes to certain things like this. It looks like it would be great. I would love to have one, but you still have to keep your Internet on or can you do without your Internet or Wi-Fi with this.
Do you need a Google TV to use this my daughter's disabled on a very small income we're trying to figure out the cheapest way for her to get her entertainment the internet but what's a good system for people who are disabled on a very limited income
No you don't need a "Google TV". You can connect this to any TV that has an hdmi port which in this day and age they all do. I bought a regular onn stick (not 4k) for $14.99 for my mom's "dumb" samsung TV from 2009. Works great, and now she can watch her favorite RU-vid cooking channels on the tv. Hope this helps. Ps. You do need to have or create a Google account. Which is easily done online.
🎉 Question 🎊 Will An OTA Dongle Work On This Device To Get OTA Channels and Hopefully Integrate Into Channel Guide and Picture In Picture Features ??? Thanks For The Awesome Reviews..
Great stuff, Melvin. Very detailed and exhaustive presentation. It would be a good idea to share your recording hardware, if you wish. I am one of the guys who is curious. The fact that extra usb drive can increase the storage to install apps is a great feature. I have Tivo and is restricted by space. So i will be interested in this device. Also how did you record the TV screen?
Great video. On the techy side a bit, which I actually like. It gets into things that most other video don’t. I noticed that when you asked the Google Assistant if it’s going to rain it said “No rain forecasted for Apopka. I live in Davenport which isn’t that far away. Pretty cool. Keep up the great work, man.
The difference between this device and the regular onn cast is that the remote control is white and this is black, but pretty much the same, aside from the star button. The device itself is quite different.
Hi. Remember me? Talked to you last week. I bought the small one. I'm going to get the bigger one next so, I got 3 firestick's and going for 2 onn's now. Alexa got a little bad didn't she. I drove throw there 6 days a week. I probably know you or you might know me. Have a good day. I'm on my way to Walmart.
great review! having had quality issues with the previous Onn streaming box, I'll look forward to your follow up review after you've used it for a while. and thanks for the info on the wireless mouse/keyboard combos....
@ramongonzalez5049 Why should manufacturers even have the option to use obsolete port standards such as Fast Ethernet 10/100 and USB 2.0 in 2024. Time for them to move on and join us in the present day. Minimum standards that should be options are Gigabit Ethernet and USB 3.0
Fast Ethenet 10/100 along with USB 2.0 should have been phased out at least 7 years ago. No devices being released in 2024 should be manufactured with either of those obsolete port standards as an option.
@@Mr01dschoolYea they put some built in ''nice to haves'' that nobody really asked for or expected like hands free voice operation and backlit remote. I wouldn't mind sacrificing those for a better SOC and built in gigabit ethernet. At least they put a 3.0 USB type A port.
So I have all the othered on the benchmark and then some. But with the talk of Amazon stopping the side loading on the firedevices I might give it a go just for tv apps.
@@Triple_M no worries. Great review though. I'll be adding it to a 2nd TV after my main one with an Nvidia Shield Pro. This one has good specs and storage. Thanks for the video
Not bad for $50 and I could maybe recommend this to some people, especially as an entry-streaming device, and to those that aren’t opposed to the Google TV part. It would take a lot to pry me from my AppleTVs for my home, but this is a great option for those extra/guest/garage/etc TVs or those looking for budget devices. I don’t personally use many Google or Amazon products/services due to the data privacy implications-it’s simply a personal decision. I do really like the _physical_ mic switch though and wish more products implemented them.
I bought one of these Onn 4K Pro the other day. I heard that some of them came with a backlit remote control. But mine came with a regular black and white remote control. No big deal for me but it would have been nice to get a backlit one.😊
Troypoint mentioned that some do. I wonder why would they even release any at all. I think most people would prefer one with a backlight. I guess they didn't feel pressured, because of the low price.
The report in this video don't have the Big Free Tv Button like I've seen on the Walmart website & other places is this a pre production model ? or was the one with free tv a pre production place holder ?
I actually sell Android TV Boxes that are well Spec'd and IPTV. Been doing so 10 years. I have actually been offering my Customers the ONN box as an affordable alternative. This Box actually uses the Android TV OS as opposed to stock A droid. And of course Google Certified.
compare the video quality of the Onn Pro vs previous boxes or other devices to see the difference. The On pro shows slightly darker.. peoples skin tones are darker in video quality. My Verizon Android TV box shows more vivid (Brighter). I was going to buy two ONN pro boxes but i will hold off on that.
Just bought this to replace my Firestick that keeps running out of storage and I only have one app that I use (IPTV). The only way I can fix the Firestick is by taking it back to brand new by resetting it and then after a few months it does the same damn thing. F anyone’s wondering yes,….I can clear the cache on everything and still runs out over time. Hopefully this Onn Pro does better!
