Shambhala is a mega coaster in the Spanish theme park PortAventura Park . The roller coaster was built by the Swiss roller coaster manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard . The attraction is located in the China themed area . The theme includes the legend of Shambhala , a mythical kingdom from the Himalayas. The attraction has set three European records: the tallest roller coaster (until Red Force opened in 2017), the highest descent on a roller coaster and the fastest mega coaster.
The attraction opened on May 12, 2012 next to the Dragon Khan . Both coasters form the skyline and the symbol of the park. They intersect and together with the Hurakan Condor form the highest points of the park. The Shambhala plunges two meters below ground level and also includes a splash zone, an element that became popular on B&M roller coasters. The design also crosses a tunnel. The attraction is accessible via a newly constructed plaza connecting China to SesamoAventura, removing Fumanchu. Also, part of the route runs behind Gran Teatro Imperial and along SesamoAventura.
