Despite the last-minute omission of wholesale planning change from the Energy Strategy, we believe there is still a future for onshore wind in England. With local authorities looking to deliver against their climate emergency commitments, can they support the cheapest form of renewable energy?
At this online event, we talked to experts about what the latest policies mean for onshore wind in England and disseminating the learning from projects in Wales.
With the April 2022 Energy Security Strategy seeking only to “consult” a “limited number of supportive communities” on onshore wind, we explored what it is going to take to get onshore wind off the ground again and what local authorities can do to support this change. We heard from planning and legal experts, as well as discussed what it takes to build a business case with some of those currently developing projects in England.
Speakers included:
Poppy Maltby, head of cities and regions, Regen
Monika Paplaczyk, investment director, Thrive Renewables
Will Bond, managing director, Alaska Ecological Contracting
Cathryn Tracey, senior associate, Burges Salmon
David Tudgey, project development director, Community Power Solutions
Charles Gamble, co-founder, Community Power Solutions
This event was kindly sponsored by Thrive Renewables.
