Drivelapse video of Highway 401 starting from the former Highway 18 (Ojibway Parkway) in Windsor, and then heading easterly through Essex, Chatham, Elgin, London-Middlesex, and Oxford Counties).
That third song ( trampoline ) sounds familiar to me, I heard that song a lot on the cars radio sometimes. Very entertaining, and possibly the bestest video from you.
Just read that the speed limit on the 401 from Windsor to Tilbury is being raised to 110 km/h in late April. Nice to see Ontario raising their rural freeway speed limits!
I'm not normally an indie rock guy, but that Mother Mother song had some killer guitar work! Loved this, and your last one up to my hometown in Sudbury along Highway 69. You pretty much hammered out a quarter of the 401 in this, wonder how big of a task it would be to do one mega-video of the entire thing!
Thanks, and I like that Mother Mother track as well. I had actually planned to film more of the 401, but the battery in my camera died. Thanks for the comment.
It will be great once the 401 has a direct connection to Interstate 75 in Michigan, with the Gordie Howe Bridge and new border crossing. It should make the situation a bit more like the 402 in Sarnia, where a direct connection to the US Interstate system does currently exist. The Windsor-Quebec City corridor is the most populated region in Canada, and I always wondered why there were never any direct connections between Ontario's 400-series highways and the Interstate system in the Detroit-Windsor area. I feel like the politics around the Ambassador Bridge hindered the construction of a direct connection until now. I'm surprised that the automotive industry, with their presence on both sides of the border (in Michigan and Ontario), didn't push for a direct connection around Detroit sooner.
I’m shocked that one Moroun guy who literally became a billionaire from owning the Ambassador Bridge for decades never personally BOUGHT LAND much less financed construction of what’s being built by public money now but decades ago and years after the initial interstates & 400 series first opened… It’s not like he’s buying half of Beverly Hills for the approaches, it’s literally the absolute exact opposite lane value wise.
Driving the 1st 268 km of the 401 is very long. You probably need a full tank of fuel for your car to do so. Sometimes, you might need to exit or pull over and fuel up again.
Great drive! Did you know Japan and US are the only two countries that has ETC-only interchange? In Japan, this is called smart IC or SIC. This can be found on PA (Parking Area) and SA (Service Area) in addition to expressway itself.
@@AsphaltPlanet1 I'm not counting any toll road that is both pay-by-mail and ETC. What I mean ETC-only interchange, that is, no cash or pay-by-mail, you need ETC.
@@AsphaltPlanet1 In Japan and US, there were two types of Interchanges: the normal ones, in which allowed ETC and in person, and the ETC only ones (Smart ICs). Different from ON407, they still require an ETC pass for you to use them rather than picture taking
It also depends on what part of the US you are in. Many all-electronic toll roads here in Texas are like the 407 in that they accept both ETC and pay-by-mail. The first all-electronic toll road in Texas with a pay-by-mail option was SH-121 Toll (now the Sam Rayburn Tollway operated by the NTTA) in Lewisville, which (I believe) opened in 2006. Toll roads in DFW are almost completely all-electronic and accept pay-by-mail on every all-electronic facility (even the express lanes). The sole exception to DFW's all-electronic toll roads is International Parkway, which cuts through DFW Airport. International Parkway is not technically supposed to be considered a toll road, but it acts like one practically, because the fee booths are also for airport parking. It uses a ticket system, and those who spend less than 8 minutes between the ticket and fee booths get charged more than those who spend 8-30 minutes (or between 30 minutes and 2 hours for that matter) between the fee booths. The latter would likely represent someone who is entering the airport to pick up a passenger, whereas the former would represent a commuter using International Parkway as a shortcut. Returning to all-electronic toll roads in Texas, the exceptions to pay-by-mail acceptance are generally found in the Houston area, where most all-electronic toll roads are ETC-only. The first all-electronic toll road in Texas, the Westpark Tollway (first phase opened in 2004) can be found in the Houston area, and it remains ETC-only like many other Houston-area toll roads.
Can't wait for the Gordie Howe bridge to open direct access from I-75/I-94 In the United States to the 401 into Canada to replace the ambassador bridge because the ambassador bridge is falling down and the only road in Canada
The 401 needs to be 6 lane's wide from Windsor to the outer suburbs of the GTA because of the truck traffic from the United States and I hope they hire better US customs officer's for the Gordie Howe bridge because at the ambassador bridge they treat you like a criminal. Does it take a thing of phlegm to pronounce my last name I have my passport and driver's license
