The Ontario Knife and Tool Company SP-16 Special Purpose Axe, also known as the SPAX, is a great tool. But it is often sold as a camp axe or survival hatchet, and those are not is purpose, and it doesn't perform really well in those roles.
I asked an expert about the purpose of this tool, and it is designed for use in extraction, breaching, and rescue. This is an old style of axe, dating back at least to WW2, and Ontario just upgraded it. The SPAX has been around for many years, it has been deployed with Army units around the world, and it has shown up in a number disasters to work as a rescue tool.
This is a great tool for a car kit, and urban survival kit, or for a home emergency kit.
