Ontario Steam Trains | Steam Memories of Ontario 

My father was locomotive foreman at Brockville when I was growing up and I got to meet both Bobby Cole and Bruce Kearney, both fine gentlemen who actually let me pull the throttle and run the stoker on 6218 when I was a spare board hostler while in college. It was good to hear their voices again.

So glad I found this. I recorded this episode years ago on dvr from "Trains & Locomotives" on RFD TV but lost all those recordings when I switched service. Great stories from these two old heads. Those guys worked hard for their living.

I have this video on cassette and it’s amazing to see and watch i especially like the stories of the cn guys who worked on the bala sub in the steam era . I grew up close to this line

I used to drive along that stretch of hwy 2 between Trenton and Cobourg several times a week, I have a feeling not much has changed in the rivalry between CP and CN, you can still see freights neck and neck tooling along, just that there is twice as many on the CN line. I live near Port Hope now and for every train on the CP trestle you can count 3 on the CN trestle including Via units. There used to be stories from when the old CPR north mainline through Glen Tay Kaladar, Tweed Havelock and Peterborough on to Toronto was still carrying passengers, the CPR would pull out of Ottawa and the CNR would too at the same time and it was a race, go like hell and the trains would pull into Union Station minutes apart with shell shocked ptsd passengers from the rough breakneck ride. Sometimes CPR won the race, sometimes CNR.

Interesting/informative/entertaining. Excellent photography job enabling viewers to better understand what the orator is describing. Remember the " Singing Break Men 🎸🎶 Jimmie Rogers whom was a genuine break men. ( Illinois Central ) R.R. Till changing careers to a singing entertainer career (1926 thru 1933 ) most memorable song " Break Man's Blues 😭 ". Presentations like this one. Enabling viewers to better understand what it's actually like being an engineer/break man. Year in and year out.

It costs approximately 3.5 times the running and maintenance cost to run a steam engine compared to running a conventional diesel locomotive. If a group of investors were to start running a steam-engine passenger train from Toronto to Montreal, would people pay the one-way ticket of $230 for a steam train ride, while the diesel service ticket was only $65 each way?
