Thank you for another interesting, positive and enjoyable video. People really do appreciate attendance at their loved ones funerals. That someone thinks so much of the deceased that they take time and effort from their busy lives to attend means a lot. I realise this more and more as I age.
Thank you. Although it presented us some logistical challenges, I am so very glad I was able to attend both the funeral in CA and celebration of life in OR. I really appreciate your comment.
I vacation in that area when I can. The 1000 Islands are a special place. I hope you got to Bella’s in Clayton, Muskie Jake’s in Gananoque and one on the great brew pubs in Kingston. The Antique Boat museum is a must for all to see, and I also took the boat ride. I grew up loving old Chris Crafts and other wooden boats. There are some amazing old “Painted Ladies’ cottages on Wellesley Island in Thousand Island Park. And the bass and pike fishing is pretty good, we are sure even saw a sturgeon once.
Thanks! We loved it! We loved Bella’s and Koffee Kove. We hit GAN Brewing (didn’t know about Muskie Jake’s). We loved Kingston Brewing (next video)! Cheers!
You sure whetted my appetite for a visit to Oswego and the Thousand islands. Alas, I'd have to do it by car but it sure looks like a wonderful place to visit. Glad you had a peaceful crossing of Lake Ontario. Your route will skip Lake Erie, but having cruised the entire length of it, I think you made the right choice. Terrific video, looking forward to the next leg of the voyage.
You should! It was a spectacular boating destination. By car, you can take many various boat tours to the island castles, etc. Clayton, in particular, is a jewel!
Nice of the fisherman to share with y’all. Georgina looks beautiful. So cool the antique boats are in the water, usually they are on the hard in a warehouse. The castle and boat house is on my list for sure. Raft ups are my favorite. Enjoy the Ride, Bell
My sister and brother-in-law did the Loop a few years ago and they too spent a week in Clayton. They did the same things you have done. They thought it was a wonderful stop on their Loop. They love the Antique Boat Museum. My brother-in-law owned an Antique Boat for several years. After that they went to the Trent locks as you are doing.
I'm from 1000 Islands area. Although I've traveled the world, there are few places that rival its beauty. The water is crystal clear, islands are gorgeous and people are great. Highly recommend!!!! Alexandria Bay is close to Clayton and also worth the boat trip around Boldt Castle. Just watch out for Featherbed Shoals on your way to Ontario
Hey Seth, I was wondering what camera and monitor system you got for your engine room? I've noticed the monitor on your dash. Do you like it? Does it work well? Thanks
I have two cameras aboard. They are both Garmin and hook into the MFD’s through the NMEA2000 backbone. I monitor the engine room when underway and use the rear facing backup camera when docking. They came with the boat but I’ve been happy with them. I know there are plenty of other options (bluetooth, etc) but these have worked well for me! I hope that helps.
I've been told, 23 feet is the maximum beam to navigate all the way through The Trent Severn Water way, from Lake Ontario to the Georgian Bay. I'm at 24'6". Clearly, The Trent Severn Waterway is out of the picture. I don't want to miss The Thousand Islands. Is it advisable to go up The Oswego Locks like you did and navigate back on to Lake Erie, near Niagara Falls? Not sure if there is a water way there. Can't go through West Erie Canal, because our boat has 17' air draft. I know you have to be 15' or below.
Yes, I believe that is correct. 23ft wide is the smallest lock chamber on the Trent Severn. You definitely can take the Oswego to explore the Thousand Islands and then transit Lake Ontario to the Welland Canal which gets you around Niagara Falls into Lake Erie. I don’t know much about the other option which is the Champlain Canal to Chambly Canal to St. Lawrence but you can research that too.
