Best video out of all of the ones available I found as the hardest part was trying to find where the speaker grill connected to the rest of the speaker to pry it off.
Tip: incase you didn't notice, the screws of the outer casing are a little different then the ones for the battery casing on the Onyx 4, so make sure you keep them seperated. EDIT: worked like a charm on an Onyx 4! Same screws and plugs and stuff. Haven't charged it yet, because the battery was like 70 or 80 percent full!
Thanks so much for your video. I was able to complete the battery replacement and the Onyx 3 is working like new again. Purchased it at least six years ago and it's been a big help allowing me to play high quality music on location photo shoots!
I was able to take it apart as you illustrated. Thanks! It really surprises me that a product of this reputation and quality would have a battery that seems kind of inferior, you know?
Thanks so much Dale. Well made video instructions which made it easy and understandable to install a new battery in my speaker. The battery I ordered did not come with cushion tape wrapped around the wires of the battery but I was able to unwrap the tape on the old battery and re-use it along with a little electrical tape. Thanks again!
Nicely done. Thank you for sharing. It's nice to know it's just an 18650 battery. However if I ever open it up I would add one or two more in parallel to create a longer lasting battery at the same 3.7 to 4.2 volts. Just using their same connector with cells ripped out of a old laptop battery.
Hi Dale, so I've seen a couple of vids on the "how-to", but no comments on the the outcome and workability. The only batteries I could find were a different model number (will take up issue with HK, finding my Onyx has a non-HK battery!) so hoping it works. Please post your new battery's operating capacity. Thanks again and am awaiting my battery delivery today. 👍🏽
Thanks a bunch! The seems super small, did a replacement hold up and hold long does it hold a change while using fully changed without unplugged from the AC adapter?
I have 5 of those rubber screw covers...are you sure one of them wasn't still attached to the front grate? One of mine was. Also, why not put the band on before the front grate? Thanks though! Much appreciated for the name of the battery company.
Thanks for the reply, Phyllis. I guess I was missing one grommet, glad you had them all. Regarding the rubber seal/band, it tucks in between the grate and the case, so I found after doing several of these replacements, that the way I showed was quicker and easier for me. Of course if you don’t have my fat fingers it might be easier a different way for you. Send me a short vid of how you did yours if you have the time. Thanks again, Dale
Did it work? I just removed the batterypack, new one should arrive tomorrow. Hopefully it works, new pack cost about 30 bucks, but a new onyx like 200, so worth a shot replacing the ffing battery.
Hello Sr, do you know wgare can we get the replacement speakers for those HK bluetooth speakers, I have the Onyx2 and one of the speakers cracks and needs to be replaced, Thanks for you help!
Hi Ricardo, unfortunately I don’t know where we could get a replacement speaker, but I haven’t tried to look as mine are doing OK. I’ll look for replacements and get back to you if I find some. Thanks for the question, you never know when mine might start buzzing too.
Hi Joe, the wire if for the battery doesn’t lend itself to connecting two batteries together. However if you get two rechargeable batteries of the same voltage and amperage theoretically you can wire them together for a longer playtime. I’m not sure if they would charge correctly with the supplied charger though. If you decide to try it, let me know how it works, or what troubles you ran into.
Sorry to hear replacing the battery didn’t solve your problem. Is there a way you can check and see if your charger is working. I had to replace one of mine when I lock it in a move. Does the the speaker still play when the charger is plugged in?
That's great and all, only you could have not hide with your hands what you're actually doing, would be great to actually see how you're opening the speaker...
Hi guys, i replaced the battery of my harman kardon onyx studio 4 with a subtel 3000 mah battery, but still turn off when i set the volume up, can you pls help me?
