I have recently bought a Duette and find it a great unit for my layout. I also find that using it in High resistance is a good setting for my older steamers. Thanks for the video and your thoughts. Cheers. Tim Melbourne Australia.
Hi Ken. You can't beat older technology, and... yea, it's British! Charlie Bishop at Chadwick uses a Duette for testing DC locos, so you're in good company. Yes, I too thought that High resistance was going to be your best setting. Happy railroading!
Solid controllers those old Duettes; we get plenty of folk new and old wanting them at the local shop, choosing them over the likes of Gaugemaster or Hornby. Quite impressive.
Hi Ken, It's great to have watched your video and seen the finer points of the Duette explained properly with regards to the resistance settings. Can I ask you what size banana plugs (3mm or 4mm) fit into the outlets on the side of the controller please? I'm fitting seep point motors to my layout which require 16v (at least) but the plugs all seem to be in moulded plastic sheathing... what would you use to connect from the outlets on the Duette?
I've actually never used those side connections. I tried a 3.5mm banana plug on them, and it was just a bit too big, so I believe 3mm would work (but I don't have a 3mm to hand to try). You can buy banana plugs from a hobby store or an electronics store - they will need to be soldered to your wires.
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I'll try the 3mm plugs and see if I can get into them to solder the wires to the actual metal. Only the larger ones seem to have a screw-on sheath to allow them to be taken apart easily.. @@kleedhamhobby
@@MaboPetethe banana plugs I was buying didn't have any plastic body. You just got gold-plated metal pieces, and some shrink wrap. You soldered the wire into the back of the metal piece, and then put shrink-wrap over the back of the metal piece and the end of the wire. These were from a company called Mpi. They weren't actually called 'banana', just 3.5mm (or whatever size) Gold Power Plugs. They do fit into sockets made for banana plugs, it you get the right size.
