Oodi Helsinki Public Library :: Grand Opening Architectural Video Tour :: Finland
Architectural HD Video Tour :: Library Interior Design
The Helsinki Central Library Oodi (Finnish: Helsingin keskustakirjasto Oodi, Swedish: Helsingfors centrumbibliotek Ode), commonly referred to as Library Oodi, is a public library in Helsinki, Finland, inaugurated on December 5, 2018. The library is situated in the Töölönlahti district next to Helsinki Music Centre and Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art.
Oodi has room for both quiet and more noisy activities.
1st floor: events, coffee and meetings
The active public facilities and large event venues, such as the cinema and the multi-purpose hall, are located on the first floor. The busy entrance hall forms the floor of transition and partners, and also contains the quick library services.
2nd floor: workshops, learning and interaction
The second floor is dedicated to work, learning by doing, interaction and sharing time with others, and has studios, game rooms, urban workshops, work and meeting rooms, and group work facilities. The floor also has tranquil rooms for taking breaks.
3rd floor: book heaven, Citizens’ Balcony and children’s section
The top floor is a place to relax and unwind. Underneath the undulating ceiling, you can have a break from your daily chores, have some coffee and admire the view from the Citizens’ Balcony. This floor resembles a traditional library the most. The children’s section is also located here...

I admire countries that have such facilities.I can not help bow my head to the people that built such a library.

It's a nice leisure facility, a recreation centre, a gathering place, a community hub, a weekend getaway, a family entertainment centre, a playroom, a fast food joint, it's anything but a library. The interior feels like a vast waste of space. Whoever designed the edifice hadn't the faintest idea of what libraries are for.

Very nice! The inside entrance to that library is probably wet because of snow. Theres a few places to hit your head, thats not something I ought to be thinking about avoiding when inside a building. I'm not sure how wheelchair accessible it is, but someone can make it more so by suing their asses after they find a few spots. The anklebiter section shelves have sharp corners for skull injuries. Excellent 8 inch invisible glass jutting out from the wall glass, during a walkway. I can get my foot stuck in the concrete stairs going up, break my other ankle, before I get to the slope part where some rugrat spilled a sippy cup, so I can slip and dislocate my other shoulder. What fuckin alien designed that??

>>>>A.G. Martinez This building is designed for finns. They walk a lot and by tradition are clever enough not to hurt themselves while moving their legs...

some people, like all finns, have this thing called common sense. thanks to that, we don’t trip over everything and are able to see where we are going !

Why do people walk around, sit and read still with THEIR COATS and JACKETS ON? Is it too cold indoors or it is something characteristic for Finnish library environment? It looks rather funny…

Standardeko oh you are right, didn’t notice. But it’s not closed one probably, so no one is keeping an eye on that😬

It's probably because the library has just been opened up for the first time, and it's very busy and packed so no one wants to leave their coats or items unattended. And everyone is mostly looking or sitting around, not doing too many library things yet. :)

@@sfilde I have watched several videos about this library so far. Some were filmed much later than the opening day. Everywhere the same situation - people walk around in their outdoor clothes and they alway keep moving (including tons of tourists). There are no dead-end premises, where readers hide and read, like in traditional libraries with desks and lamps.
