Ooni Koda 16 VS Ooni Koda. Side by side comparison and REAL TIME COOK

This is a first glance between two gas powered pizza ovens, the Koda 16 and the original Koda. The Ooni Koda 16 is extremely powerful, has a lot of space, and reaches a high temperature VERY fast. If I had to pick between the Koda 16 or the original Koda, I'd definitely go for the new Koda 16. Check out the video and I'll explain why!

(Disclaimer: I am not getting any monetizing incentives, but I was given the oven. Please feel free to shop freely! I just think Ooni is a great company and have no problem sharing their products)

Brilliant video & loved the side by side comparison. I realise its been a year since you uploaded this video but still very interesting. I will be catching up with all your videos. My heart is set upon buying the Koda 16, I am still using my home electric oven it can only crank out 280 C which is 536 F. My pizza’s are done in around 14 minutes but I have to pre warm my oven stone for 1 hour at lest to get it hot. I hope you are doing well in 2022. I don’t know where you are from but i am from UK & its chilly here.

The Ooni Koda 16 has a more widespread flame and better heat distribution. It can also use butane cylinders like the Kodi oven can if you change the supplied propane regulator for a butane one and use a commercially available butane cylinder for your oven.

Thanks for the video. I've had my Koda for about a year now and have learned a few things. As soon as I pop in the pizza I immediately turn down the heat all the way. I make sure to keep my pizza's below about 11" or there won't be enough room in the oven to keep it far enough away from the flame to keep it from burning. After 20 seconds I start turning it and in about 60-90 seconds ( depending on size and toppings) it's done perfectly. It would be nice to have a larger oven for a little extra room for my occasional 12" pizza, but not sure it's worth it. My concern is this: I only have to preheat my Koda for 15 minutes. I wonder how long you have to preheat the 16? It has twice the flame so even at the same preheat time will use 2X as much gas, a real pro for the Koda if you don't need the size. Also the stone is quite a bit thicker on the 16, so I would imagine it takes more time to heat even yet.

I just got my Koda but cannot get it above 350C in the middle of the stone even after +30 minutes :( I also have problem with stone catching fire close to the burner but might be to much flour because I don't see the tomato sause being to much and dough is complete when I put it in.
@jepgato6657
@jepgato6657 4 года назад
All i can say is keep at it! There were MANY times when I wanted to throw my Koda into the pool. After using it a lot you’ll start to figure it out. As opposed to the stone getting hot enough, there can be many reasons that affect the heat. Is it cold where you live? If you’re getting around 350 in the center then its probably a lot hotter in the back. You can just slowly turn your pizzas and you’ll be fine. Remember...it takes practice but you’ll get it!🤙

@@jepgato6657 Around +15 degree Celsius and no wind when trying it. So these factors should not be affecting it. Close to the burner my laser reads 420C when 350 middle of the stone. Not sure why I cannot reach +400C in the middle. It seems to come out good anyway so maybe I just have to forget about it but I've contacted Ooni for help and we'll see because getting +400C is one of their key takeaways mentioned in the manual and marketing so it feels like I might have a faulty part somewhere. Right now I'm just educating myself doing pizzas so next up is to reduce flour to a minimum and same with tomato sauce to see if the stone don't catch fire. Learning :)

When you stick the peel in the dome for a few seconds, are you pre-heating it before rotating? Do you find that makes a difference?

Hey Dan! Most definitely. I usually slide it under the pizza relatively slow too. Its become habit that I heat the peel. 👍👍

Great video, thank you. What’s the difference in weight?, is the 16 still reasonably “portable”?
@jepgato6657
@jepgato6657 3 года назад
Hey Raul! The 16 is actually a bit bigger than the smaller Koda. You won’t need two people to carry it. Id compare it to holding a International sized suitcase like a pizza box. I hope that makes sense lol

@@jepgato6657 I just checked your other video about the built quality of your 12”. Did the 16” show any improvement in its finishes?. I see your 12” is probably 2 or more years old not sure whether they are building more solid units but those legs issues on the 12 could become a real issue considering the 16 is larger/heavier. Thank you, great vids!

Ooni specs says the width of the Koda 16 2 front feet is 20.5". The Keter table I have is 20.5" width. Seems like the table will work. Would you please do a more accurate measurement to confirm the width of the Koda 16 feet? fyi here is the Ooni specs document for the Koda 16 ... files.ooni.com/product-resources/ooni-koda-16-dimensions.pdf Maybe the Ooni drawing is not accurate for the width of the feet? Thanks

Hey Bob! Yeah I'll definitely do a more accurate measurement between the legs. As soon as I'm off from work I'll do it for you. Not sure how the manufacturing is, but I know for a fact it's hanging onto dear life on my other Ikea cart (Applaro). Ikea has that at 22 - 7/8." I think that's with the wheels too. Thanks for the video. I really can't decide between the two. I like the portability of the Koda and I don't really want to make 16" pizzas, but the L-shaped gas flame, the additional headspace and room of the Koda 16 are very appealing. Does the L-shaped gas flame really make a difference? Are 40 lbs that heavy to carry around? Is it difficult to move the pizza around in the original Koda? Thanks.
@jepgato6657
@jepgato6657 4 года назад
You bring up excellent points Samuel. To be honest, making a 16” pizza all the time is kinda tough. It’s difficult to move around in the oven. I think the sweet spot is around 13-14 inches. The original Koda, the space inside is a bit limiting, but you can still make some crazy pizzas. The space in the 16 is pretty awesome though. Very nice to move the pizza around when you’re making smaller pizzas. After owning this thing for a while, the L-shape burner is awesome. You’re gonna cook pizzas a lot quicker. Just make sure the stone is hot enough to cook the bottom. I keep my oven in one spot because its kind of a pain to move around. I use to move my small Koda from the garage to the backyard but eventually got lazy and just left it outside lol. Hope that helps!
