In this video, Input offset voltage in op-amp has been explained.
This input offset voltage is one of the DC offsets in op-amp.
DC offset is the unwanted DC output voltage which appears at the output of the op-amp in addition to the desired signal.
In this video, you will understand what is input offset voltage, how it can affect the output of the op-amp and how the effect of this input offset voltage on the output can be reduced.
What is input offset voltage?
Input offset voltage is the differential voltage which is required to apply between the two terminals of the op-amp such that the output of the op-amp will become zero when no input is applied to the op-amp.
It is hard to predict the polarity of this input offset voltage and usually, in datasheets, the absolute value of input offset voltage is defined.
This input offset voltage ranges from few mV (for general purpose op-amps) to less than 1uV (for high precision chopper stabilized op-amps)
Cause of input offset voltage:
Input offset voltage arises because of the mismatch between the two transistors of the differential amplifier in the op-amp.
Ideally, both transistors should be identical when they are made on the same wafer, but because of some mismatch, these transistors have different biasing points.
This difference in voltage used to get amplified by the other internal stages of the op-amp and it appears as DC offset at the output of the op-amp.
Effect of input offset voltage on feedback circuit:
Whenever op-amp is used in the feedback configuration, then this input offset voltage used to get multiplied by the DC gain of the feedback configuration. And output offset voltage is the multiplication of DC gain and the input offset voltage.
How to remove the effect of input offset voltage on output:
The effect of input offset voltage on the output can be nullified by using the nulling /compensation circuit or it can be reduced by using the very high precision chopper stabilized op-amps, which has very low input offset voltage.
Offset voltage drift:
This input offset voltage also changes with temperature and in datasheets, it used to defined in units of uV/C.

Sir, if input offset voltage is applied to make output offset voltage zero, then why will it have a role in effecting output offset voltage...it should reduce or nullify output offset voltage, right?

🌟 I have a problem with the comparator, My V- is 7.85V from a devider, the V+ is 50mV up or 50mV down, in both cases the results was +6.44V, I was expecting to get +6.44V end-6.44V, I chaged the IC (LM833N) but the results stay the same, (VCC is +8 end-8) may be I have to use a different IC ?! Please help

Can we fix this Error by using external voltage balancing circuit like voltage devider or potentiometer in one of its unbalanced terminals to make both input of opamp same ????
@ALLABOUTELECTRONICS
@ALLABOUTELECTRONICS 5 лет назад
Some op-amps have inbuilt compensation circuit. Only you need to connect the variable resistor between the two given terminals. And by varying the resistor, it is possible to remove it.

Sir I heard that when op-amp is ideal then the output voltage is infinite. Why output voltage is zero here?
@ALLABOUTELECTRONICS
@ALLABOUTELECTRONICS 2 года назад
For ideal op-amp, when there is no input then its output should remain zero. But in actual op-amp, we do get some voltage at the output.

5:15 Voo should be equal to zero according to definition of "Input offset voltage"..aur hum "Input offset voltage" error Kam karne k liye use Kar Rahe h par yaha toh error aa rahi h
@ALLABOUTELECTRONICS
@ALLABOUTELECTRONICS 6 лет назад
If you want to remove that error then you need to apply the input voltage of -0.1mV to remove that error. So, without nulling the error voltage, there will be some output voltage. But from the error, you can know the amount of voltage which is required to null the error. Some times it is difficult to null the error exactly. In that case it is better to go with op-amp which has low Vio (in microvolts)

This question is not related to this topic Query is Playlists organisation is bit confusing because some videos are repeating in other playlists. Can u guide me if there is possibility that i can get most of the videos in minimum number of playlist? so that i can get rid of redundant playlists
@ALLABOUTELECTRONICS

I think this video is only in op-amp playlist. Only some videos of oscillator and multivibrators are in this playlist. But there is a seperate playlist of analog Electronics, which covers all these topics. Some videos are repeating in it. But I will update that playlist. You can follow that playlist, it also includes solved examples for all topics.

@ALLABOUTELECTRONICS
@ALLABOUTELECTRONICS 5 лет назад
The offset voltage of the op-amp should be less than the input voltage you want to amplify. So, you need to select the op-amp which has offset voltage less than the input signal range.
@omsingharjit
@omsingharjit 5 лет назад
@@ALLABOUTELECTRONICS sorry , that was current in 3 uA @ 6 v that I want to amplify can op amp like lm358 do this work ?
@ALLABOUTELECTRONICS
@ALLABOUTELECTRONICS 5 лет назад
@@omsingharjit well, in that case, you need to consider the bias current. But there are low noise op-amps are available, whos bias current is in sub micro-ampere range. You can use them for your application.

Sir What is input common mode voltage range?and input differential voltage range?
@ALLABOUTELECTRONICS
@ALLABOUTELECTRONICS 6 лет назад
As its name suggests, it defines the input voltage range for the common mode and the differential input voltage. The common mode voltage which is present at both terminals should be less than the specified range in the datasheet. Similarly, the differential voltage present between the two terminal (inverting and non-inverting terminal) should be less than the specified range. For example, for one op-amp if differential input voltage range is 5V and let's say you are operating op-amp as a comparator, then you should need to take care that the difference between the voltage applied between the two terminal is less than the 5V. I hope it will clear your doubt.
