This is probably one of the most interesting matchups in 05. Certainly PLuffy favored, but Katakuri is a deck that can always win from triggers. We will be covering more One Piece Set 5 (OP-05), Awakening of the New Era in the coming week!

Thanks for the commentary, it's very insightful! Just a point about the 'aggression' from the Pluffy player at the end - it seems he only had 4k counter from 4 cards left in hand, so he was not going to survive another turn if the Katakuri player just put all don onto characters + leader and swung, even if all blockers were still up. Add onto that the risk of Thunderbolt/Volt, and I can see why the Pluffy player had to risk it and go all-in.

i think he had a gomu gomu rain in hand and also pitched the other one too. Felt like Pluffy was in the driver's seat the entire game

At the beginning of the game katakuri thunderbolted kid blocker... losing a life but most importantly losing a "bege"... I m not sure if the move was correct, quite aggressive in all cases..I would have gone 5 with charlotte pudding then 7 with katakuri and looked at my life and moved bege to the bottom. Obviously he didn't know the card he was about to trash... and of course the rest of the play could have been different.

It was just a really awkward turn for kata. It was absolutely crucial to thunderbolt the blocker kid, but it leaves an awkward 3 don. We could argue that a 9K swing was probably best, but hindsight is really 20/20… I don’t think the decision to double swing was necessarily a bad one. Going first for Kata is tough because they get to see their life a lot less in order to play on curve.
