I have had a colony of opae ula shrimp for 4 years now and use no filtration at all. I started with 6 and now have several hundred. I absolutely love them and they always get comments when guests come over. I keep them under a grow light and feed them 4 shrimp pellets a few times a week.

I've read opae ula don't require a filter at all so I don't have any on my tank and they are thriving quite well. The only time I had a filter was the first couple of weeks just to kickstart the cycle and then I removed the filter once I seen algae growth. Have you ever tried raising them with no filter mark?

Hi Mark! It's awesome to see your Opae Ula doing so well! That colony has REALLY taken off! Hope to see mine do that too. It seems to be going very slowly, but they are breeding. I am just curious about what salinity you keep them in? I also saw some of the rare green/yellow opae ula in your tank! Though about trying to line breed them? :D
@MarksShrimpTanks
@MarksShrimpTanks 3 месяца назад
hello Shanrrosh, salanity is 1.015ppm and yes they can be slow to take off, since this video I have set up another much larger tank doing it the same way, no water changes just top ups with pure RO and feeding once a week.

Yo Mark I've just acquired a tank of these, I've put in wood, already had lava rock and crushed coral as a base, I've also added some more black lava in top of the coral substrate. Also guava leaf and a small cattapa, I've read also they can be fed veggie based foods, nettle, mulberry, spinach in pellet form, how much do you recommend ? I think I have about 30 or so I've had them 3 weeks and not given them a hard feed yet, would you still feed my amount once a week or leave it longer? Cheers in advance 😊

When Nerites hatch the young are swept out to sea and live in the Plankton for several months before making their way back to rivers . No one has succeeded in breeding any Nerite species so far . The complete life cycle isn't fully understood and the longest that anyone has managed to keep the long alive is for 90 days .

Hi Mark I'm curious to know what brand salt you're using and at what salinity did you start with and generally keep them in and are you using any type of Sump System or are we using an HOV on the tank cuz I'm a little confused on exactly how to get them up and going I have a 200 gallon reef

Hi , really wonderful to see your opae ula thriving, by the way when setting up a tank for them, do we really need to give them area for hiding? Just afraid that they will always go hiding when my numbers are too little, 20pcs only. Thanks 😁
@MarksShrimpTanks
@MarksShrimpTanks 10 месяцев назад
Yes, it's always a good idea to provide hiding spots for your opae ula, even if you have a smaller number. It will make them feel more secure and comfortable in their tank.
