Opal C1: Why This Matters! 

Good comparison, but you neglected to mention the price up front - for most people, the price is a deciding factor and this webcam at $250 is clearly premium. That's a lot to drop on a webcam, and not everyone would agree that the difference in video quality justifies that cost. Nobody is gonna be shooting a film on a webcam (except maybe that flick Unfriended, haha), a webcam is perhaps the most strictly utilitarian application of a camera that you see in mainstream consumer goods. Do you need to look perfectly sharp? In most cases, no, so long as there's enough resolution to distinguish someone's face and reactions. The build quality of the webcam is maybe best in class, but I don't think many people would consider build quality beyond "good enough" very high up on the priority list, since a discrete webcam for a laptop is already something more commonly used in a controlled, office or home environment on a desk. If you're on the go, carrying a separate webcam and setting it up is the functional cost of a decent but not amazing quality boost. To improve call quality, I think most people need a better discrete mic for $60 or less, which is much cheaper than this. I felt like the mic on the Opal picked up sound bouncing off the walls of the space and didn't isolate your voice quite as much as the macbook. It was a bit crisper compared to the slightly muddied mac mic, but not without a compromise. TL;DR this is a premium product which you didn't mention the cost of up front. Most people need a better mic to improve their call quality, not a perfectly crisp webcam.

One thing that you're not mentioning here is how this camera overheats, like A LOT. Me, and many others who have bought this camera are reporting the same thing. And by hot I don't mean warm to the touch, it literally burns your hand if you touch it. This is a problem that Opal knows about, and they have tried to address it with software updates (they have personally reached out to me by email after me tweeting about the issue and gave me a link to the beta version of the software) but it didn't help. Apart from that, I found the software to be buggy. Many programs don't even recognize Opal as a webcam so you can't select it (I think I've had this problem with Google Meet before). So apart from the fact that Opal C1 has a crisp image, I definitely wouldn't recommend this camera. I am not advocating for any other camera, though I personally found the Insta360 Link to be a much better product since it doesn't have many issues so far and the image quality if somewhat comparable to the Opal, and the UX of it is just objectively better.

Can it also be used on Windows PCs without downloading the composer software?

PSA: What a horrible camera. I bought this camera a couple weeks ago, such a nightmare to setup and always out of focus. Software doesn't work properly, and support (or the lack there of because their customer service is just as bad) made excuses for where to plug it in. I returned it, I got so tired of it. What a waste of time and money. If you see RU-vidrs or IGers talking well about this camera, saying MKBHD invested in it to use it as a plus, they're probably cross-advertising, don't fall for it.

Alot better options than this - having large YT creators endorse this rubbish does not make it good 🤣
