"Activism is a way for useless people to feel important, even if the consequences of their activism are counterproductive for those they claim to be helping and damaging to the fabric of society as a whole." - Thomas Sowell
This is the first I've heard of Thomas Sowell, just looked him up and after a few minutes I'm already invested in learning more from him. Thank you for introducing me to him!
Virgin movie villains: Explaining their evil plans to the heroes before operating said plans. Chad Moff Gideon: Explaining his evil plan after his plan already been foiled.
You just didn’t get it. Clearly he failed giving the clones force sensitivity, that’s why they were placed in front of his head quarter and that’s why he just let Mando kill them while constantly having his location. After that he bragged about something he never achieved cause how could Mando know otherwise. Some people just don’t get the brilliant writing. He already faked everybody out by telling them he would handle Mando himself, putting on his helmet and walking off, only to then just wait where he left from without helmet on. Gideon is a prankster that loves to play with your head. He makes you think he’s obsessed with the dark saber but then bam just destroys it.
@@wingthomaux It's almost as if his actions have zero continuity and rationality whatsoever to them! Now THAT'S what I call subverting expectations! Only the BEST villains behave in utterly inconsistent ways! THAT is masterclass writing folks!
Ever notice that the same people who push absolute diversity in film and television are often the same ones who turn on actors cast for projects who they don't deem to have dark enough skin? 🙃
Not really, no, because I don’t really keep track of who is saying what on an individual basis unless they say something that attacks me personally, like Pedro Pascal or Elizabeth Banks.
I mean, even in history, the praetorian guard sucks ass. In fact, there more useful in betraying Roman emperors *cough* Pertinax *cough* Gallienus *cough* Aurelian
Guilty or Not what gets me is that HIS PR FIRM DROPPED HIM for having a PR DISASTER, isn't that what you pay a PR firm for??? That's like your lawyer on retainer dropping you when you get arrested like- "owww that's allot of charges , sorry your gonna have to get yourself a different lawyer your in trouble..."
Remember back when disney first bought marvel and star wars? their whole purpose for doing so was to attract new male customers because they had NO young male customer base, they were seen as a girls brand, not a family brand. What have they done with both franchises? turned them into girls brands.
Star Wars Bounty Hunter was a great game. Glad to hear it has other fans. I never hear anyone mention it anywhere. The bounty capture mechanic was a great gimmick making it so you can’t just run in and start blasting. The final level when you get swarmed by Bando Gora and the screen just goes black, then cuts to the torture/seduction by Vosa, still a great scene.
Historically there have been vessels renamed in honor of another ship. Regarding the current GRF class super carriers, they’re designed to remain in service for the next century. One would imagine that starships would be designed to last for quite a while with future fleet extension block updates being designed in from the start.
Yeah, ultimately it's just just a bunch of steel forming an outer hull. As long as there's reasonable places to bolt things in (even floors and walls), you can refit almost indefinitely. It's just a matter of cost. I believe the lifespan of today's carriers is based around their reactors. They're a floating nuclear power plant, and it's that heart of the ship that's got a lifespan. If they really needed, I'm sure the old Nimitz class carriers could be kept in service a lot longer, but they'd have to replace the power plant, and that would probably be cost prohibitive. And the Navy wants to go to electric catapults and laser weapons, so they'd need a lot more power generated, all the steam stuff would need to be yanked out, and at that point you're looking at essentially a whole new ship anyway and it's easier to build something new with all of those systems built into the design from the start. Typically, though not always, newer technology is smaller than old technology. So if there's need for more power, it can often be generated in the same amount of space, or less. I suppose by the time you get to the future where you're mixing matter and antimatter together, efficiencies aren't going to improve that dramatically, so maybe you have to expand Engineering a few extra decks, push out some bulkheads, and eliminate a few crew quarters, but the Galaxy class was an absurdly huge ship to begin with, they have plenty of room.
@@fakecubed Good points. Plus if tell the any Navy, "bolt on what you can", they will lol. I was watching an interview with some naval architects and they were talking about the GRFs and they're designed to last over a century. There are platforms that work so keep them in service if they can be upgraded. B52, AC130, A10, F15, M to name a few. That's a really good point about the reactor lifespans. It would be interesting to find out if modular ship building allows for that kind of drydock work for these new super carriers? Oh ya I haven't seen the scale but Drachinifel mentioned that someone had worked out the amounts of space per crew member aboard Enterprise and it was something absurd, like 1000 square meters lol. At least she would have the "ballast" for upgrades. Plus with new super materials, modular design, and transporters to add or remove those ships would last much much longer. Now a multi series story based around a single ship that at some point, with every new crew, is updated and that advances the character of the ship.
I love the Drinker streams but my gosh I feel like y’all have talked about Star Trek nonstop the last 3. Skipped 55 minutes into this one and the topic was still Star Trek… holy hell 🙃
To be fair the M1 Abrams is a 40 year old tank and it's kicking ass. So a super technologically and metallurgically advanced spacecraft should easily last that long or at least longer than it's expected service life. Which military craft do frequently.
40 years is not old for a starship, especially in Trek. The Excelsior class was the backbone of the federation fleet for 100 years or more. Upgrading refitting the enterprise D to the Galaxy X would actually tie the story up nicely with all good things.
I'm just remembering 40k ships that have been around for ten thousand years and haven't been upgraded for at least five thousand and repaired for over three hundred.
Agreed, I thought it was weird that they kept retiring ships after about 10 minutes, though maybe it makes more sense than previous continuity in a world with replicators.
The thing with fan service is that it's great so long as it doesn't veer into just shallow pandering. Picard 3 had meaningful fan service that flowed naturally from the story, which is why it didn't feel like shallow memberberries or pandering.
There are two problems with Picard season three: 1) I’d have to watch seasons one and two first, which isn’t happening, and 2) I’m not paying for Paramount+, and I won’t sail the high seas to find it. If seasons one and two had been good, then season three might be worth watching, but that’s not the case, so it’s not worth it.
I receive a survey from Disney plus every few weeks to get feedback about their current and upcoming programming. Because I have answered affirmatively on the past surveys about Star Wars, it seems like I receive quite a few survey questions about how much I enjoy the current slate of Disney star wars programs and what I'd like to see going forward. I'm not sure how many other people are receiving these surveys but Disney is definitely actively soliciting feedback, albeit from a very specific group of participants. Any overtly negative feedback will terminate the survey.
The final shot of Mando S3 is how Din should've ended up after S2 - minus Grogu and the suit. He should've retired to a farm or something ("I have Spoken" guy's farm, perhaps) You bring him back for the movies. He gets word Grogu is in danger and, out of practice and unsure if he is capable, has to put the suit on once more to save his kid. Not being part of that weird cult any more would also mean Pascal could get his face onscreen. If you want to do a Din bounty hunting season/mini series, make it a prequel.
From Kurtzman's wikipedia: "Kurtzman is known, alongside Orci, for frequently collaborating with Michael Bay and JJ Abrams..." I mean that tells you everything you need to know about him. Also his middle name is Hillary lol
It was so good because it ultimately summed up the premise of the show: Evil is never vanquished, but you keep fighting because it's right thing to do.
Since they're tying into the sequel trilogy, I guess they have to explain why the Mandalorians were a non-factor even though they've got a fleet of Imperial warships. I assume next season they'll be divided and defeated by the First Order.
Kathy trained to get into the character. The Mandalorians train every day. It was her way of interpreting her character as an actress. It wasn't for nothing.
The movie Mauler was talking about is the Autopsy of Jane Doe. It was an incredibly uncomfortable watch for me (Cutting open bodies is one of my least favorite things to see in horror) but I can admit it was really good.
I feel like Mando season 3 could have been pretty decent with the plot outline that they used for season 3 but with all the wasted time cut, and some more character development between Din and Bo. Basically a 90 minute movie "Return to Mandalore".
binged S3 Picard...it was like a christmas gift. sad to see them go, feeling greatful to have seen these character moments. the plot...it is what it is, but the charaters got their sendoffs, even some obscurer ones...just a gift. this will be remembered as a very rare thing in TV, fans will look back at this in 10-15 years when the cast will be gone for good...and feeling lucky.
agreed. this was a love letter to the enterprise/star trek family, the fans and to the show. set up and pay off was off the charts and the emotional tone was completely on point.
@@dragonknightleader1 I hate when people justify something thats just mediocre by saying "at least it was better than X" like you should treat lukewarm beans as some sort of gourmet meal because its better than that half burnt meatloaf youve been forced to eat the past few years.
@@Shiirow there is nothing to justify, the character moments were done beautifuly. You guys either have no connection to og-tng, which is fine, or you are just trapped in a hate spiral at this point. You do you, be unhappy if you want.
I watched Resident Evil: Death Island today and I highly recommend it. If these animated movies would have marketing to get them in theaters, they would make even more money.
I feel a little bit sorry that people like AZ and Garry spoiled return of Enterprise D - I would prefer to be surprise. But other than that, now when I watched whole season with my friend cap Jack Sparrow, I have to say that I was perfectly pleased with whole of Picard 3. Don't get me wrong; there is plenty to criticize here but generally it was surprisingly good; it was opposite of SW sequels, it was respectful towards old characters, it wasn't dark, fatalistic and nihilistic - all of main character survived, the day was saved, Seven become a captain and NCC 1701 D is back ! And I agree that I prefer this starship over Enterprise -E - I was never emotionally attached to NCC 1701 E. So, yes refit Enterprise D - give it to seven, Jack and LaForge daughter and I this series would make me happy! But sadly Picard 3 is an anomaly and there is no hope for either Star Trek or Star Wars...
In tv guide 2003 interview Joss Whedon said he was running over and so used short hand for Anyas death. Later Emma Caulfield said she hates working with Whedon on set and he might have done her character dirty deliberately
They must stop writing women characters for lesbian women.. The problem is that they portrait women as active lesbian women only.. not even as passive lesbian who could be also appealing for men...... Woman in movies and TV.. talk and behave like manly active lesbian women.. that like only to other lesbian women....... not appealing to straight man.. not appealing to straight woman to identify with.... And there you have it... the low audience....
the characters they write men and female is absolute garbage. men are bumbling idiots who cant tie their shoes and always have to be saved by the super girl boss who just instantly got unbelievable power they never earned or learned how to use. rinse and repeat.
@Ken North scarlet witch is just another overpowered pile of woke garbage. she basically held a town hostage and abused the shit out of them but she was sad so its okay. jfc.
I mean, haven't you seen Ymir and Historia from Attack on Titan? They're actual lesbian characters (well, at least Ymir is) and on top of that they're relatively minor characters in the show and yet they are way more appealing and likeable characters than whatever Hollywood is doing these days. So I don't think portraying women as active manly lesbians is the problem, the problem is that western writers can't write likeable female characters. I'm gonna use AoT again as an example to show that having Tough as Nails female characters isn't a bad thing, like 90% of all the female characters In the show are badass soldiers that put their lifes on the line daily yet they still have personalities beyond being strong and/or independent (funnily enough, except for the main female lead, Mikasa)
@@chasehedges6775 you're mostly right. Endgame wasn't too bad, but yeah, infinity war was just pure gold. I kind of liked how they portrayed Thanos as someone who actually thought he was doing the right thing by eradicating half the universe, and how he was actually crushed that he had to kill Gamora. I also think Hulk should have gotten his revenge in endgame against Thanos. Banner and Natasha seemed to have a thing, her death could have made him go world breaker or something I don't know. Instead they gave the limelight to 2 OP Mary Sues.
i would LOVE a good Kraven movie. sadly we will get some woke bullshit with a bait and switch and it will become Kravana the HUNTRESS or some other lunacy
I don't think Gideon is death either. I have this feeling the "creatives" will try and pull an SWTOR move with Gideon. In the animated trailers for SWTOR Darth Malgus is fighting Satele Shan and gets badly injured by her Force push into a cliff and a follow-up Force Push that leads to massive chunks of the cliff exploding out. That is what lead to Darth Malgus needing a respirator and I am feeling like Gideon will be given a similar treatment. Or taking Darth Vader's reason for having a respirator; getting set on fire.
Back in DS9 Jadzia Dax was a symbiont in a female body that used to be in a guy, and is often referred to as ‘old man’ because she’s the same person they used to know. How hard would they have hit you in the face with trans messages and whining about trans issues, instead of her being a fully formed character and chief science officer.
I liked dax at first, but during my 3rd watch of the season, i find that I'm not a fan of dax, and she's my least favorite char in ds9, ezri is okay but jadzia has way too much plot armor thoughout the series, and i don't know, something about her grates on me. For about a decade now, she's my least favorite char in all of star trek, and I think it's because of how she seems to always cause drama because she thinks it's fun
Sci-Fi basically sucks mostly now because its all about emotions, obviously there should be some for the sake of characterization or plot but it has no exploration of philosophy/psychology or science and technology, While technically Cyberpunk is neither Sci-Fi or Science Fantasy but sits on a line in between and tends to do a better job of managing the rational and irrational and consequences of such, Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners did a great job, well TBH Anime with Japanese writers tend to handle managing it quite well to the point sometimes its perfect to a fault, The original Ghost in the Shell well its accolades and praise pretty much speaks for itself or Akira which literally is a movie of what happens when emotion becomes irrational.
15:30 -- RE: "... compared to All Good Things or anything we've seen in the last 5 years..." ; And there we have Gary admitting that this product didn't even really need to be made, *BECAUSE SUPERIOR CONTENT ALREADY EXISTS.* It's not an anomaly... It's *BAIT* to sucker some of the most sentimental and *LEAST* critical of fans back. Enjoy that Star Trek Diabetes, Gary and Dave.
So Critical Doggo wanted to much money to return to Open Bar? Or after the success of the first airing, Doggo is overbooked and no longer available? What is going on Drinker?
I’ve only seen a few episodes of TNG, and I only watched the enterprise D scene from Picard. I started welling up and feeling something. I’m not even invested in Star Trek. Props to terry
In a decade or so when you have been good and saved up enough google-bucks you'll be allowed to ask an A.I. to turn old Star Wars Legends novels into a movie or series for you. It will be fake but somehow it'll have more heart and soul compared to disney's star wars.
Kurtzman just wants to turn star trek into a tokashi kovach series. The ending of Farscape Se04...I broke my fucking tv. no booshit, I threw a fucking 32 ounce metal coffee mug right through my 22 inch tube TV and it fucking exploded. If I didn't get Peacekeeper Wars I'd have gone on an absolute rampage.
The Court of Opinion ruining Hollywood Careers is nothing new. Look what happened to Fatty Arbuckle in the 20's after a girl he was messing around with at a party ended up dead and everyone blamed him. Ruined his career completely. Seriously, if you're an aspiring movie star who doesn't want to court scandal and ruin it's just best not to have any associations with anyone and live like a monk or nun.
Good example. Any sober examination of the facts showed that Arbuckle had absolutely nothing to do with the girl's death, but once the target is painted on your back…
@@harrydubois6619 well it did… but it ended in season 2 lol and then they didn’t replace it with anything until episode 7 where they had to just “say” what the plot is cause they didn’t give themselves enough time to build anything up.
One of the best horror comedies of all time. Instead of horror with stupid gags or visuals they just made a comedy set inside a horror and absolutely nailed it.
Darth Bane implementing the Rule of 2. Told from his perspective (unreliable narrator avoids canon if needed) this as a series or trilogy or even a soulslike game. Seems to be the easiest win out there and I never hear it mentioned.
Speaking of Picard 3, I would watch the crap out of the spinoff they set up! Jack was awesome! His and Sidney's chemistry was real, and 7 of 9 had a great arch! If they keep some sense of military decorum and hierarchy (which Abrams and Kurtzmann completely threw out) then I'd watch the crap out of that!
