We are doing some MAJOR open "carriage" surgery on the ASV RT-120F today! This is a completely different machine than typical skid steers and CTL's and the drive "squirrel" cage is completely worn out! A mechanic buddy is here to help and hopefully if you have one of these machines this can help you in the future!

Wasn't to bad, but with some help from a friend you got the job done. Sharing of information, that's is something that is a lost art, but its still alive and well on RU-vid. In fact I have used RU-vid to work on my truck, and replaced the starter on my wifes van. And a whole bunch of other things by checking it out.

Great that you originally bought this from Jon, with Upstate Bush Control🙂 Being a bit mechaniclly challenged, it is good to have a friend that knows all this sort of stuff and can help you out with this machine. Wishing you and your family a safe, and blessed Labor Day weekend. Thank you again for sharing, always look forward to your videos.

Based on what you and Jon have both said about the ASV, they seem more owner "maintenance-friendly" than some other manufacturers.

Have you got to compare that new mulching head you are testing to the shearex johns been using yet? It seems like the one you have is more powerful its hard to say just based on video footage alone tho

6:54 How much is each cylinder unit, you needed 40 of them. I guess it's so that you get a tight traction to drive the belt? If you can examine them later, were they worn?

I am an idiot mechanic. And definitely not a heavy machinery mechanic. However, long time ago I learned to change my own automobile tire. When I was taught, I was taught to Tighten they lug nuts in a star shape. In other words not to tighten the ones next to each other. This will allow the lug nuts to push back the wheel In a uniform fashion and assure that they're all tightened to the same torque. Was I taught wrong or is it different with heavy mechanics? I hope you understand the question. I am definitely not trying to tell you how to do your job. I am trying to learn. 😊 You tighten these in a circular fashion at least on the first tightening. Can you educate me? Thank you. By the way, I will never drive one of your vehicles in what left of my life I have. I'm 67 years of age and not very healthy. So I am definitely appreciative of the entertainment If not the education.

In regards the prior message, please note I am not trying to make myself out as being a very smart automobile mechanic much less a heavy equipment mechanic. So thank you very much and please don't think I'm trying to tell you your job. Just the opposite. I sort of been learning if I've been doing it wrong all along.
@rodgersandrodgers8191
@rodgersandrodgers8191 11 месяцев назад
An additional question I have, and again only for my own education, not to tell you what to do, but why don't you clean off all the parts that you put back in? Maybe it makes no sense do so. Maybe it's because they'll just get dirty again. I don't know and that's why I'm asking.
@rodgersandrodgers8191

I do wish I could do what you were doing. But I know my limitations as Clint Eastwood once said. And at age 67 and a bad back and bad legs and bad heart and bad everything else, there is no way I am starting a new business from my current accounting business that I own. Thank you again for not making fun of me on these admittedly stupid questions.
@rodgersandrodgers8191
@rodgersandrodgers8191 11 месяцев назад
You may have answered this question earlier, and again my apologies for not picking it up, but how did you know you needed a change out the parts in the squirrel cage? Thank you.

I wonder who was the first person to decide what torque these lugs needed to be torqued too. I wonder if there was a chain that completely fell apart before they started increasing the torque. Haha

What would happen if you didnt replace them? how did you know they were bad or time to replace?
@greenwoodsbushhogging6704
@greenwoodsbushhogging6704 Год назад
Real bad slop when he touched the bad ones and not much on the new ones. I'd assume you'd hear the "squeaks" and noise more than normal would be the first sign to inspect them. Usually, it is just preventive maintenance and inspecting the machine that helps the best.
@jamielynn656
@jamielynn656 Год назад
So eventually it would wear the track out or make it slip... right? @@greenwoodsbushhogging6704
@greenwoodsbushhogging6704

@@jamielynn656 probably so, but you'd definitely have to let it go a long time before that happens.

It would start to wear on the cage frame itself requiring that to have to be replaced too which would make it more expensive.
