I've been playing this album almost everyday since I got it on its release. It is easily the frontrunner of album of the year for me. This makes Hellfyre Club my new favorite hip hop clique. I'm glad to see that you and Kinge both have listened to this album as well. Great review as always, Myke!
I downloaded that Rent Party Extension a while back and LOVED IT! Then I listened to maybe half of this on Mello Music Group's Bandcamp, and I loved what I heard so far! Eventually, I gotta pay this guy for this album because that "rappers that don't condone date rape" line is one of the best/funniest/genius things I've ever heard anyone say in a while!
Got into this after checking the hellfyre tape, just cuz i was into busdriver hadn't heard of this dude previously, only thing is i gotta find a store to buy this at cuz i'm not using a card rite now and I'm in rural Nebraska rite now...good review, the way u describe things is almost like hearing it
Nailed it Myke. Thirsty Ego Raps gives a great perspective on the big egos rappers have while still being needy for praise and applause. Very Much Money puts down the basic bragging rights of mainstream rappers by saying his friends don't need money to be great, but these thirsty ego rappers need it for any level of self-comfort, since their primary skillset is bragging about money. Just how I took it.
I'm assuming you're going to review the new Sadistik album...would love to hear your thoughts about it. Even though I didn't love it like Balancing Act or FFMF it's still a great listen.
Great review! I'm going to being checking that album out in a few minutes, thanks to you. If you can you should review Sadistik's lastest album that came out today called "Ultraviolet". It's a terrific album in my opinion. Take care, peace, love, and apple juice!
Oh, he had you singing, Myke, didn't he? Haven't listenes to this yet, because like two weeks ago I finally got into Nocando so of course TitsNExplosions and Jimmy the Burnout have been on the rotation. How come you didn't review the latter one? And speaking of live, have you seen the Qualifiers performane inside a laundromat? That had me hyped like two years ago. Genius! Hellfyre Empire. Peace. I'm out.
Love the review, Myke! Hellfyre Club is the shit. I just don't understand why is this a solo review.... specially because of the Top 5 Albums of the Midyear. I would love if this was actually a deadendhiphop review. Still... great job! Keep it comming, Myke!
I definitely need to listen to this more. I like a lot of things on here (like that date rape line). The main kinda downer feeling I get from the album is I find myself wishing there was a bit more rapping in place of some of the singing
Best hip hop album of the year. Dude is so unique & has such killer production & flow & over all approach to the way he sing's/raps throughout his songs. Very addiction from the get go
Myke, if you have a Facebook check out hip hop fans in India. Those guys are incredibly smart and have a wide range knowledge of hip hop so check them out if you want to.
Haha! I had a much less optimistic interpretation of "Very Much Money." I thought Open Mike Eagle was making fun of himself and other people like him. He describes the type of person who is a self-proclaimed artist or intellectual and spend their days learning Portuguese or doing yoga. Meanwhile, they remain out of touch with the rest of the world. Eagle, being only a moderately famous "art rapper," is poking fun of the lifestyle that he admits to living. I think it's a pretty funny song, that I can kinda relate to. IDK, maybe you're right though... Great review; great album.
Just started listening to this album recently and I was hoping you did a review on it. Glad you did. I love this album, got me into to Open Mike eagle and I'm happy that I didn't end up sleeping on this. Really agreed with you on this. Thanks
