Conical shape about 54 or 52 mm, dude you are a inspiration, i'll start to save money to buy a DIY skateboard deck kit, and later i'lm go for the wheels 🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
I'm going to use those hardened threaded tie things on mcmaster, I think they're equivalent to a grade-5 bolt so I'm a little worried about them, but I think they'll last for at least a while
This is incredible. Thank you so much for making this available for free, both the content and of course the files! Can't wait to try this someday and experiment with wheels myself.
Trucks!?! No way! A few projects ago, I'd commented that Alex had built every other part of a skateboard and (jokingly) that he should build a forge to cast his own trucks next. He responded that it was coming up and I assumed he was also joking. I can't wait! I appreciate how humble you are while blowing us away with your ingenuity and networking skills.
I hadn't had my coffee and I was like "Who is this Alex?! If they're making board components I want to know what they're up to!" It me. I'm Alex now. Alex, Chris, it's all good, just don't call me late to dinner. I'm stoked on the trucks too brother, I can't wait to really sink my teeth into that project!
Per me you still need to to do post curing in oven. Try to hold them in oven with 110 C (Celsius) for 40 minutes before use. They should get much stronger. Actually industrial wheels do like that.
I have a question Chris. How hard are they? Do you have an idea where they fall in any durometer scale? Also, free spanish lesson: Time to edit! = ¡Hora de editar!
Hahaha thank you for the spanish lesson! The wheels should be (and they do feel like) around 90a. I don't have an actual durometer so I can't test it, but that's what this formula is spec'd at and as long as I got a good cure that should be the hardness.
Solution for your humidity problem. Modify a food dehydrator to make a drying area to pull the humidity out of the air, this hack is used a lot for Filipe t spools and since you print things you’ll get more bang for your buck. I live in Maryland where it’s near 90% humid all the time and the food dehydrator helps prints and should help with your urethane too.
lets se something with a core, like 97mm abec11 wheels... or if you have 2 kg of resin laying around a set of 107mm abec11 style wheels all the e-skaters need something with core they can put pully'ies on
I definitely want to tackle this at some point, but I've got to upgrade this system to work with cores first. And if I'm using that much urethane I want to make sure I've got a really good formula to work with. More R&D is needed!
I'm so excited to see more of stuff like this. The second I see anything of a spitfire type wheel 55mm I'll be printing on my ender pro and sanding lol
I don't know if you've seen the youtube channel Precious Plastic (I think they actually go by One Army now) but I love everything they're doing in the small scale plastic recycling space. I think recycled plastic wheels would be a really neat experiment, I think they would roll, but I don't actually expect that they would be all that good. Plastic bags are HDPE which has a low co-efficient of friction, so they'd probably slide like crazy, but they also probably wouldn't grip at all. Would definitely be a fun thing to play around on! I certainly need to see if I can make this mold geometry work on an FDM printer, they're so much more common. If you give it a shot go with the smallest possible layer height you can manage, it'll make a huge difference in accuracy and post-processing
Clear wheels would need a specific urethane formula. A lot of urethanes that have the durometers we're looking for have a natural amber tint to them so something crystal clear would be sort of a specialty product. I'm hoping to do a whole series testing out different formulae that are available, I've got to build some testing rigs first though.
Cool 👏👏 awesome about making your own truck's, I've been busy on something that's taking up my time, hopefully it's all done next month, but will have to get into making more patterns and things, but also have to get stuff done on car's wich also takes my money and time arrrh matanice 😞 👍🏽👍🏻
I know this video is a bit over a year ago and you may have already fixed the issue. But, I have a dehumidifier in my garage to keep the humidity levels down. I generally sit around 30-33% humidity at all times for 3d filament purposes and parts that easily rust. Hopefully, this helps if you still have this problem, if not, maybe it will help someone.
My name is Justin and I am also remaking old skateboard parts. I'm remaking the Motoboard's. I'm all over Google and Facebook and RU-vid. I'd like to talk to you more about skateboarding.
My name is Hnrique, I'm from Brazil! I follow your work on my 2accounts. Your work with wheels is really cool. I would like to take advantage of this message and ask you something. Can I make injected skateboard wheels? I have an injection mold and an injection machine. But I feel that the wheels I injected don't look like the casting ones. Could you give me any tips so I can achieve a level of quality equal to yours using my injection process? A big hug !
You are awesome! I’ve been wondering if I could make my own roller skate wheels, but I didn’t really think that was a DIY challenge that I’d be up for until I saw this video. I’ve never used urethane resin, but I’ve definitely had more than my fair share of humidity related epoxy resin failures. It’s humid where I live in east Texas almost all year, so the dehumidifier is my BFF in the studio for sure. Thanks for sharing your experience and your file! ✌🏼💜🛼
I love riding 97 mm wheels. but they are hard to find a vendor for, and usually no durometer value is provided. by comparison i gathered that the ones i've got from ali are 78A. I'd love to see some 97 mm with a high duro value
I have a raptor 2 electric skateboard. The motors are hub motors in the two rear wheels and they use urethane sleeve wheels... Custom made for them. I can 3D print a mold to work to make one. I'm just working on what polyurethane to use to make the wheels... And then hopefully I can have custom wheels on my raptor.
@@GoodRoads fantastic. I look forward to the video. I've been wanting to cast figures using the wax-like resin i've been seeing online. Very curious of the casting method you'll use.
When you do the power slide it might help to push your legs toward your slide. Like your spreading you weight out across the ground. But I would love to see a 99a concave 58mm wheel.
The polyurathane is very hydroscopic and will absorb the moisture from the air. There is a nitrogen spray to help eliminate any moist air trapped inside the container to prolong the storage life. Well done for showing the release fail, shit happens. Just make sure it's used in a well ventilated place, it's toxic.
I was just thinking how cool of a time we are living in were we can build are own Skateboard and wheels at home and then I looked at the trucks on your board when you were riding it.. My cnc could mill them but that's not for everybody so I am really looking forward to seeing what you come up with 👍
you should be pouring your material down the edge of your cups to keep air bubbles out. air bubbles in poly is like having porosity in a weld. it ruins them and makes them brittle. i have forgot mold release on brand new molds before lol my stuff was mostly stainless and aluminum so i couldnt smash them. you need to keep your scale clean too my man. cmon pull up. i hope your compensating your weight on your scale for your dye and you can keep your color consistant . you account for that by using a oven , all molds in an oven. no humidity in there. you should hire me im retired and bored and i skate too. also sick of Philadelphia and the crime
The durometer of the urethane comes from whatever formula you're using and there are a lot of different hardnesses available out there, I just haven't had the chance to try many of them yet. The family of urethanes I've been using from specialtyresin.com come in a bunch of different duros
You should see if you can make a mold for rollerblade wheels I'm a big Time rollerblader I've gone through so many wheels if you can find a way so that I can make them at home you will save me so much money on wheels
I've been watching for sometime and we have close tastes in skate equipment and noodling with set ups. I have to tell you you are gonna freak out for joy when you discover and try surf skating . For you I would recommend a waterborne front and back kit because you have lots of trucks and decks already. But surfskating is so look flowy and low impact its turns flat ground into a bowl or a wave you never have to kick push .I'm telling ya man just knowing you as little as I do from this channel I know like me your gonna get on one and know other style trucks will do anymore . Its like opening a new dimension in board sports. Just saying.
I've seen those and I'm really intrigued by them. I'll definitely have to give it a shot at some point. Do you have an adapter you recommend that works well with RKP style trucks? That's the style I prefer
@@GoodRoads and that’s the sign of a good youtuber! Definitely subscribed! I used to press boards with a hydraulic press but had to sell it for space and money reasons but you’ve got me wanting to make birds with your styrofoam mold and wheels with this method! Much appreciated.
I'm using a modified pressure pot from harbor freight, I've got a video on how I put mine together: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-76KV98fSzF8.html
Hey, I'm planning on making some wheels of my own, have you found any way to adjust the durometer with the two part urethane? I'm looking for ~97a/ ~55d.
Thank you so much for these videos. I have wanted to make my own rollerblade wheels for a few years now. I should be able to do that now with your files you’re giving to everyone. Yah bless!
Ok, if you could make a heat sublimation machine, for printing graphics? Def like your 3D skills. Thanks for all you’ve done, for the community. Super-tecky info. Need a sublimation machine and a deck supplier. See what I did, there..,.?

@@GoodRoads I’m trash with blender, should I be fine on fusion? For model-making I mean. Or do you think one of your open source files could work to start?
design a spindle to smoothen wheels. Like something that goes into the wheel grips and locked in to hold to spin on a smoothing sander. Also you can buy sanders that can make those fine lines you see in some skateboard wheels.
