"It's always somebody that thinks my stuff is trash," said D Savage during a recent visit to MASS APPEAL HQ. "I'm not like a J. Cole or like a Kendrick Lamar kind of artist, when it comes to being super lyrical. I go with melodies. I like listening to sounds in a song rather than listening to what you've got to say say say." The Queens-born L.A.-based rapper made his mark in 2016 with the SoundCloud upload "30 Round Clip" and blew up while still in high school, eventually signing a deal with Republic Records. "Yeah, I started rapping' on SoundCloud," he says, unbothered by the term "SoundCloud rapper," even though it's not usually meant as a compliment. "I'm still nice." In his Open Space interview, Savage talks about his friendship with the late Fredo Santana and his disdain for DJ Akademiks. Check out D. Savage episode of Open Space right now.
