Shy Glizzy might just be entering the consciousness of some rap fans, but the D.C. native has been prominently killing shit for several years, dating (at least) back to 2014, when his breakout hit "Awwsome" made an impact on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, he's been on quite a ride, from changing his name temporarily (El Jefe) to collaborating with industry giants like Jeezy and Trey Songz.
Oh, and did we mention "Crew"?
When Goldlink's "Crew," which originally featured Glizzy and Sonder singer Brent Faiyaz, dropped early on in 2017, everyone in D.C. knew it was a smash. The rest of the world learned that by the time summer came; the GRAMMYs confirmed it when they rolled out their 2018 nominations in December. But the song, and his verse on it, means more to Glizzy than just another opportunity to see his name in lights.
"That verse meant so much to the culture this year, and they just overlooked it," says Glizzy of his performance on "Crew." It's his belief that had more top tier artists and celebrities known how big the song was going to be, they would've been less stingy with their support in promoting it. That said, he isn't too bothered . "It's about staying in my lane and not wanting to be accepted."
