Seriously, Jun Senoue is so talented! For the longest time I thought Crush 40 was an American or European band, only today I learned it was started by Jun and is Japanese-American! It's just so incredible to me that someone could write lyrics that are so organic that wasn't even in their native tongue, however it's hard to see in this version because the singer, Eizo Sakamoto, does a good, job, but you can still hear the accent and off-beat parts. Still, I expected the lyrics to change a lot between this and the final versions, but they're almost identical!
It's awesome for sure. Jun actually had _a_ _lot_ of trouble writing English lyrics, there's a demo out there that *does* have early lyrics and yeah they're pretty messy: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_vEi3D8pDMM.html There's also another demo out there that's identical to the one I just linked but with the correct lyrics so, at least 3 demos of this have been released!
Oh you have not heard the Weird craziness that is Sonic Adventure "OPEN YOUR HEART" (Early demo feat Kenichi Tokoi on vocals) It's nowhere close to the final And nobody has a definitive answer on the lyrics
I really like this rendition of the song. Certain parts of Sakamoto's take I feel sync up together better with the melody than Johnny's version. Parts like 0:44 "What's gonna happen to us?" and 1:16 "But I will never let go". Johnny's version is certainly iconic and fantastic, but man do I wish we could get a clean rip of Sakamoto's take as well.
Lyrics: Thunder, rain and lightning Danger, water rising Clamour, sirens wailing It's such a bad sign Shadows of dark creatures Steel clouds floating in the air People run for shelter What's gonna happen to us? All the steps we take, all the moves we make All the pain at stake I see the chaos for everyone Who are we? What can we do? You and I are same in the way that We have our own styles that we won't change Yours is filled with evil and mine's not There is no way I can lose Can't hold on much longer But I will never let go I know it's one way track Tell me now how long this'll last I'm not gonna think this way Nor will I count on others Close my eyes and feel it burn Now I see what I've gotta do Open your heart, it's gonna be alright Ancient cities blazing Shadows keep attacking Little children crying Confusion, hopeless anger I don't know what it can be But you drive me crazy All your cunning tricks make me sick You won't have it your own way Can't hold on much longer But I will never let go I know it's one way track Tell me now how long this'll last I'm not gonna think this way Nor will I count on others Close my eyes and feel it burn Now I see what I've gotta do Open your heart, and you will see If it won't stop There will be no future for us It a heart is tied down by all the hate Gotta know how to set him free I know it's one way track Tell me now how long this'll last Close my eyes and feel it burn Now I see what I've gotta do Gotta open your heart Can't hold on much longer But I will never let go I know it's one way track Tell me now how long this'll last I'm not gonna think this way Nor will I count on others Close my eyes and feel it burn Now I see what I've gotta do Open your heart, it's gonna be all right
We all know what the lyrics to open your heart is maybe you should try your hand at finding the lyrics of Sonic Adventure "OPEN YOUR HEART" (Early demo feat Kenichi Tokoi on vocals) Good luck with that 1
@@turboshell I mean this version was the original really. It didn't make it into the game obviously but this was the version I heard on the internet in like 1998. I was a huge Sonic fanboy as a kid and I remember getting super hyped for every snippet of information on the first real 3D Sonic game-- like, a promo screenshot of what turned out to be Red Mountain, stuff like that. No idea how I came across the song exactly but this version was out on the internet before the Dreamcast was released. One fun detail I remember, back then we had absolutely no idea what the lyrics were-- we hadn't heard the final version of course, which is definitely easier to understand. So we had our own misheard lyrics-- 0:53 "I say egg rolls for everyone!" We weren't exactly masters of engrish at age 9 😄
I was in the exact same position as this guy, super hyped for Sonic Adventure and soaking up whatever info I could find about it, and can confirm that this was the version floating around the internet before the release of the Dreamcast. Sega did a very low res live stream of the unveiling of Sonic Adventure in Japan and I definitely remember that a band (not sure if it was officially Crush 40) played the song live on that, but I haven't seen a recording of that stream since then and don't know if one exists, so it's hard to remember who was singing. I think this mp3 was released to coincide with that event, though, because I had this version for a while before the game came out. I actually ended up getting to take a trip to Japan in Dec of 1998 and bought my Dreamcast and Sonic Adventure on the day that the game was released, and I remember being surprised by the differences in the game version of Open Your Heart!
@@bobbyconover A recording does exist - kind of... Unfortunately no one recorded that livestream (and that was certainly not the last time that happened, cough Sonic Boom 2013's livestream cough, but hey it was 1998, that's excusable), *but* SEGA did release a _heavily_ _cut-down_ tape of the event a while after, which you can find up on YT and I'm surprised you somehow haven't heard of. And on that tape, yeah, there's a whole section with the live band bit you're describing. It's everyone who performs on this demo miming _to_ _the_ _demo_ you hear here, so _almost_ Crush 40, but Johnny Gioeli isn't "singing" so not really. This demo was indeed released alongside it, along with a whole load of other stuff too
This song has Hirotsugu Homma on drums, Naoto Shibata on bass and Eizo Sakamoto on vocals. Those are all members of Anthem. This is an Anthem song with Jun Senoue o.o
Personally the issue I have here is moreso with the lyrics themselves and not Sakamoto's singing. As much as I love this song, the lyrics are a little bulky. Despite that, Johnny Gioeli manages to make it flow really smoothly in a way that Eizo Sakamoto doesn't. I can only assume that Jun Senoue had more direct contact and interaction with Johnny and gave him more freedom to take liberties with how he sang this, whereas Sakamoto was probably more restricted.
Thank you for putting this together, it's wonderful that the original demo has been preserved and thanks to your efforts it's accessible in a much cleaner and polished manner!
Fun fact, this was made in Japan by a Japanese man before the actual Open your heart was released. Sonic Adventure auto demo was this songs first appearance.
@@xavierlime06 Yes, it was almost entirely Jun in charge of creating the song, with support from Kenichi Tokoi. But really, this song was his project to try and make the absolute best he could, he's the one who chose vocalists and in the end landed on Johnny as we all know.
That was scatting if you want some Real but still hard to make out lyrics To make out try Sonic Adventure "OPEN YOUR HEART" (Early demo feat Kenichi Tokoi on vocals)
I listened to the character presentation, this version isn't really complete, good job on isolating the vocals, but its really missing alot of screaming in the instrumental breaks! (Like actual metal I guess?)
@@coniboiyoutube Thank you! A lot of people like to make fun of the fact that this was not perfect english. People, of course it's not perfect! You guys probably haven't lived in a country where english is not the native language and to top it all off, it's in Japan. Of course it sounds different. Not everyone there speaks english, in fact I bet that for them, learning english is very difficult.
Why would you save it as MP3? not something like Wav or flac, since it would be lossless. I get the original was a mp- from damn 98 but still, saving it as wav or flac would preserve your restoration.
@@NickGoblinNevermind, i cropped most of this song from digitization of presentation on VHS. This is the only one source where i find second couplet of this song. Even if lossless audio exist - i could not find it :(
Is it just me or is it just because it's the original is it because it's actually genuinely better Idk But Japanese sonic sounds better just I mean has no relation to this but Japanese sonic sounds better
