The problem for him is, OpenAI is probably not doing anything that is illegal yet, so he cannot get Whistle Blower Protection. I would have liked to hear what the consequences of breaking the initial NDA for him would be, and why breaking it is not worth it considering he says he believes 70% AI destroying humanity.

If you sign at onboarding, that you will sign an additional contract at leaving, it sound like you are effectively agreeing to a contract unseen and open to change. Is that legal? Could he have asked to pin the general release in exact wording to the onboarding contract? Then it would be clear what even would be signed.

Can you trust a company to govern itself when it comes to A.I.? If not, how do we oversee the development of these technologies?

I trust them more than governments, bureaucrats, self-appointed ethicists, social scientists. Companies have an incentive system that if the product doesn't serve $1B+ users, they are dead. So, they literally have to get more 'votes' from public than any other person. Grifters just have to grift, cry wolf, create hysteria and get tax payers money

If they used it for sustainability instead of personal data theft and surveillance based control, we wouldn't have to bow down to a tyrant "social" media, that is only "social" when it comes to influencer voices. Where normal people can talk to each other without a tyrant influencer stealing personal data and pushing their (hate politics) on us.

Imagine the amount of pressure the security apparatus must be applying to a company like OpenAI to ensure that they stay on track and don't let China or Russia outpace us. I can't imagine any scenario where this is not happening.

@@gunnerandersen4634in simple terms, when you join a company, you sign a general nda, when you leave - the company knows the exact things you have seen/know, so the nda they can craft then will cover a lot more details you can't speak about

Guys, love your podcast but Daniel and his group are protecting their finances and sanity, don't berate them. Why not find one of the leading AI scientist's critique of the potential AI dangers (e.g., Geoffrey Hinton), read Daniel a list of issues raised, and then ask on a scale of 1-5 how much does *he* worry about those things, too? We all would be so much smarter right now, and he wouldn't be in trouble.

Would you rather 1. No one ever raise any concerns or 2. They break laws and nda's just to tell you the full details on youtube? Snowden is great but not many ppl will risk that much. Im 3 questions in - he is saying plenty while not breaking nda's.

@@user-er1fs3je4x I totally agree you need to raise the concerns but what value is he adding though by just saying he has huge concerns about the things that happened whilst there but I can’t tell even one of them. What I’m trying to say is that it was very anticlimactic and also you got to really know if he has a hidden agenda? Like I don’t know but just thought the interview didn’t have any value and was like a broken record on repeat saying “I can’t say anything”.

@@itslayfon7091 I think he got pushed out because he is opposed to OpenAIs mission and now he wants a job at anthropic. I dont think there are any real bad secrets that they are gatekeeping or they would have just leaked it to the press with no consequenses. Also India using GPT-4 I think is gonna be ok 🤣

What a pointless interview. Daniel can’t make a single coherent point to explain why he would risk giving up millions of dollars to raise a vague objection to some nebulous danger. How do you have so much passion for something while expressing essentially nothing? From the point of view of families worried about housing costs and staying afloat it’s gross listening to someone throw away a pile of money for now explainable goal.

Nobody was attempting to move your needle on that issue. This interview was not about that. It was only about making AI companies more open, and disallowing restrictive contracts which prevent employees from expressing their concerns.

This is just part of Sam’s hype engine. Say AGI is close when you haven’t even solved the reversal problem, get more hype = funding. Then Sam is aiming for regulatory capture so no other startups can follow Openai’s footsteps.

Did he give up 1.5 million dollars and resign to help create hype? Or is he just buying into Sam's hype, even though he disagrees with him and thinks he's dishonest? It seems like conspiratorial thinking. Why is it so hard to understand that people can have different views from you without any ulterior motives behind it?
