Great job! Awesome achievement Li! Congrats. Can't wait your next enhancement. As it is now, it's really really an incredible robot with so much valuable features like AI and pretty access to Alexia. It took you just 18 months to get it at this stage. You and your one-man team definitely are hard-workers with great talent.
Yeah he got all the publicity from the name and from a Hackster post that listed it as GPL, and was going all around the open source community talking about how open source is going to make the world a better place, then sold a million dollars worth of 2 different commercial versions instead, and never did release the source for this one. There's always OpenDog though which actually is open source and educational
I have an Aibo ers 311 and I already think he’s wonderful. Love your project and I would definitely back you should you ever kickstart this. Keep up the good work!
mainly the AI part of it I suppose, or the motor drivers... Must be a pretty sophisticated piece of code. The fact that it uses only arduino-raspberrypi couple, is simply breathtaking. almost comparable with the first 4-bit intel controller all things considered... long long ago. It's easy to understand why Li does want to keep his valuable project details in safe place. You can't start a business by spreading critical details of your project. It would be a nonsense.
Love the very last phrase. Hope you'll be able to start a pretty promising business selling this awesome robot. I'll be among the very first ones to buy it. Can't wait.
Very impressed! I love all your robot pets. I like to make one after I learn bit more. Maybe you can start business. Some people can not have pet in their apartment but would love these. Now I want to design custom pet like you.
Id love to see a Panther sized version of this. Something that can assist ya around the house. Love that you used the proper joints in the legs unlike "DARPA" who just do simple joints on all legs.
Wow.. i have my asso. degree in robotic drafting.. Im so impressed with what your doing... let alone everything you have going on on the cat project. its actually the best one ive had the pleasure of seeing.. im not even joking.. your not even done working out the prototype and im so amazed that i want one.. im positive that everyone else thats gets to see it in action will say the same thing.. thank you for sharing this with all of us.. I can not wait to see it when you are finished.. and i cant wait to see what else your going to bless the world with...i strongly believe you are going to impact peoples lives in the future with your ideas and the products your going to design.. good luck and try not to be side tracked by these big corp. from doing what it is that your going to do.. WOW...
I admire what you’re doing. Very impressive. I shared your video with my hundreds of Twitter followers. FEATURE REQUEST: Please add a "Sentry Cat" mode when you’re not home that does face tracking then sends image of face to cloud storage for safe keeping. It could then send you an alert to your phone. I look forward to following your progress. Subscribed!
WOW I really like ur opencat and u have inspired me to start building my own, she will be a wolf though. My dad understands a bit and RU-vid will know some stuff. Can't wait to see more bids and updates on your opencat though, I think you should try and add a tail and maybe see if you can get it to interact with other cats you've done in past (V1 with V2?, latest versions together?!!?) Hope to hear more of you!
Your work is awesome! I just lost my pup, I had him for 15 years. I don't want another dog. Building a robot dog would be a great distraction. Can you give me some tips? I am starting to program in Arduino. ~CHEERS!
Awesome. Do you have accept team contribution? I would like do join. I am also have 3D printer, and I work with Arduino, voice recognition, bluetooth, and actuator.
Very interested. As an AI student I work with other platforms, such as NAOs, but due to their high pricings it is not feasible to work with robots which are of interest at home. If these get sold for a reasonable price (which I assume since the system runs with a pi), I would love to buy one and experiment with it.
Dude.. Make a kickstarter for some quick money and release this. Cause if you dont someone will manage to steal it from you and do it. This thing scaled up has huuuuuge potential, everyone wants in on the boston dynamics robots.

I'm really excited to see where this project goes! I will definitely be making my own OpenCat once this project has more documentation.
Will you be selling the ABS version of Opencat? If not is it possible to upgrade the laser wood cut version of the kit as a custom order paying the difference in price?
Great at programming but not so much at design. Your robo-pets are kind of ugly, RongZhong. People respond to objects that look more like the real thing and less like a robot.
Very cool and I love the kitty. I do not have all the gear that you do to make this kitty. So, what version are you up to now and would you be willing to make one for me and if so, what would the cost be? I have 4 kitties of my own and I would just love to see how they react to a robot kitty. Thank you.
Hey petoi team, i would like to control the nibble cat with an arduino based transmitter and receiver using nrf24 transceiver and joysticks, what could should i modify in order to make it work with arduino remote?
The code is open source at github.com/PetoiCamp/opencat. The later ESP32 version also works if you swap a BiBoard for Nybble, allowing more programming space. github.com/PetoiCamp/OpenCatEsp32 The serial communication protocol is universal for our controllers, including the mobile app, mind+, and Python API. After connecting the nrf24 module, you can wire your module to UART or SPI with some modifications in the code. The explanation is in docs.petoi.com/applications/skill-creation
so writing each running mode as a seperate subrutine and then select between the subs by depend on enviroment and you have adaptive behavior. have you tried to use a ldr sensor to detect size of let say tiles? i was thinking if you had a black tile and you used a simple counter until the sensor reached a light tile by sweap then stop the counter, and then use the number in the counter to measure the width of the tile by transelating the total count to centimetres. im not sure if you could do it this way but just an idea to see how far primitive tech can get to pattern detection.
I've purchased Jibo and Cozmo. I'd definitely buy this robot once it's available. The work you've done is amazing! I would suggest having a site available online for people to express interest, or otherwise to have a Patreon, Kickstarter or Indiegogo up for this to help with funding.
ustedes se preguntan de loa alíen porque tienen ojos almendrados, pues la respuesta es simple son los chinos que evolucionaron en el planeta y vinieron del futuro, jeje
Rongzhong Li thanks! I’m however curious about how you managed to get the servos to run so smooth, mine are all shaky and jittery. Did you use any tricks to calm them down?
Looks really good but I'm wondering where the "open" part comes in? Feeling slightly tricked by that to be honest. Hope you can come up with a way to make it truly open and still make some money from it.
When I saw the title, I expected something else. I expected a robot that can rotate its boss while falling. Because that's the most incredible part of a cat for robotics. A four-legged Robot could be immitating any four legged animal. There is no need to call it a cat. But for a four legged robot you did a very good job
Rongzhong Li I might pay about $100 to $300 according to what it can do in the video. I am so happy that you created a cat and not a dog many companies do not make cats like this that are realistic.
