It's been a long frustrating whitetail deer hunting season for me this year. Between the bad weather and many mistakes I've made I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make anything happen this deer season. I had a lot of high hopes picking up a new hunting property and planting high producing food plots. As well my grandparents property has always been successful for me when it's planted to corn.
As the season went on things seemed to get worse. I lost a couple of really good hunts on a bad hard drive. My computer started to fail and I wasn't able to export my videos. So I've been pretty down the last few months. I get the most excitement from using my bow to hunt for whitetail deer. As the days approached I hunted harder and harder. Pulling no punches I was using decoys hunting from the ground doing whatever it took to get the deer hunting success I wanted. When opening day arrived for the michigan firearms season I wasn't really excited.
I wasn't really planning on hunting opening day because I ended up selling my hunting rifle last year. But the day leading up to opening day and opening morning a couple solid mature bucks started showing up on my stealth cam trail cameras as well as my tactacam reveal trail cameras. So as a last minute decision I decided to go out and hunt.
The hunt started late and right from the beginning I started seeing does. While seeing does is a good thing one of the does had spotted me in the tree and I ended up having to scare them away so if a buck came in they didn't spook him away.
As I was getting down on myself I noticed a buck walking down the treeline right towards me. When I moved my camera into place I hit my record button on accident and stopped recording. I noticed that the camera wasn't recording but didn't want to miss the opportunity and took the shot. I made a good shot but at the moment I didn't think I had. I watched the buck lay down really slowly and decided to track him down incase i needed to shoot him again.
When I found him in the corn I noticed he was struggling but probably would have passed on his own anyway. But I didn't want him to suffer so I put another arrow in him putting an end to his misery sooner. I tagged the big whitetail buck dragged him out of the corn and took him to the processor the next day.
