I live in Lubbock Texas so yesterday was opening day for bow season for us also and I got a doe with my crossbow. It was also my first deer with a bow!👍😀
It depends on where the arrow hits at on the deer. If you hit it in the heart or lungs then it dies pretty quick. If you hit it any where else then it will bleed out and it will take longer for it to die
Congratulations 👏 I hunted my whole life with a compound bow, but switched to a crossbow in 2018, didn't get to hunt with it last year, was promised to be able to hunt private and at the last minute got told No, so I said fuq it and just rifle hunted the same property !

I shot a doe a few days ago and took out the loins that day. I salt brined them for about a 3 hours, dusted them with some SPG then smoked them on the traeger. 10/10
So I grew up in Pa so I did not do the feeder thing but after living here in Texas for 2 years now I understand that’s how y’all do it I don’t hate it my buddy that grew up here and it’s kinda cool comparing the are experiences we even hunt public together on are channels long as it legal I have no prob with feeders 👌🏻

Hey man have you ever tried putting your fresh seasonsed meat or meat thats been thawed out in hot water then seasoned in the fridge for a few hours just prior to cooking it? It pulls the seasoning into the center of the meat. I know its the process for marinating but it works for dry seasoning when meat is fresh or thawed that way the pores of the meat are open when it cools the pores close so it pulls the critter glitter inside

I wish that we could bait deer in Virginia and I’m glad you had better luck than me. I hunted the first two days I got busted both times and I’m extremely careful with my scent control. It’s looking like another struggle bus year for me.

My season opening day got canceled because of the fires out west ,never even got to the hunting camp. Sucks but ill be in Texas in November for whitetails, exotics and hogs and duck season opens up here in 3 weeks so that makes up for it a little.

I age my deer meat in the bottom of the fridge in freezer bags for at least a week or if we have multiple deer they will go one ice chest but that always takes care of any chewy or gamey taste I also do the same thing with my grey squirrel and none of the pieces are gamey or tough after aging them!

Try letting your big game rest at least a day before eating it. It’s tough cause of the rigor mortis. Also cooking it too hot too fast can make it chewy.

I'm sorry Mullet Man about people hating on you for using feeders. Its honestly unnecessary anyways keep up the good content brother because most of love what you do unlike them
They're not allowed in Arkansas where I'm at but I don't give a shit. Only thing I don't really care for about Texas is their isn't really any public land hunting that I know of. Here theirs tons of awesome national forest and wma's and Jane Ross donated land's as well as permit stuff that's a piece of cake to get a permit for and not to mention load's of nice people that will let you hunt for free or work out short term or lease hunting rights! Try that shit in Texas without 5-7 grand in your hand and see how far you get! Other than that Texas is great if you just want to fish.
With proper shot placement most any caliber is enough for deer. That said, shoot something you feel confident will do the job for you and your circumstances. And as always, check local laws/regulations.

Yes but I'd personally try not to take a shot over 100yds away not saying it won't do the job but I'd be hesitant on penetration of that calibre if you have something a bit bigger I'd use that

Running dogs for deer is an incredibly cruel and bs way to hunt. Luckily I am from a state where common sense says if you can't hunt them on your own don't hunt at all.

No I’ll tell u what u need to do is slits in the meat but now all the way through. Should reduce tenderness and cook it a little longer like 10-14 minutes
