Are you using a USB AMBE-3000 Stick to get the DMR Decoding or is it done in software. Everything on the Project site keeps referring to using a USB Vocoder? If not would be cool if you could point me in the right direction. Thanks!
@TechMindsOfficial

All done in software. I notice that there has been another image release since I made this video, so if DMR is not working for you, download the image I used in the video and try that. 1.2.31 is what I used.

I ended up wasting a lot of time trying to sort out the missing DMR, NXDN, YSF, D-STAR digital modes to no avail. I ended up installing the 1,2,31 version which included them as you have mentioned here. Be cautious when upgrading. Apparently there is a way to utilize a hardware AMBE decoder dongle. It is discussed in a separate message thread on the OpenWebRX Github page but I have not attempted if yet@@TechMindsOfficial

This is the best SDR software I’ve encountered. What’s more , I’m able to use it in Windows WSL Ubuntu environment. The instructions on how to get it setup in Ubuntu were spot on. I’m still leaning Linux and SDR so if I can get to work, all the veteran Linux people will have no problem at all. To be clear I only just learned about OpenWebRx in this video and set it up in the time it took to watch the video twice. Thanks for showcasing this application. It’s a great find!
@adubs.
@adubs. 7 месяцев назад
Theres not a ton of functional difference between ubuntu in WSL vs just on a laptop or something. IIRC The only caveat with that configuration is Windows wont let WSL talk to the lan, so you're limited to using it on the browser of the machine the WSL is hosted on.

I just wanted to point out that many of the features that were highlighted in this video are available in the official OpenWebRX (without "plus"). Decoding of WSJT-X modes (FT8, WSPR etc.) has been available for some time now, as has been decoding of Packet / APRS and the associated reporting. Digital voice modes (DMR, YSF, D-Star, NXDN) have also been part of OpenWebRX for longer than the "plus" fork is around. ADS-B, VDL2 and HFDL are part of the current development version, as is RTTY and rtl_433 decoding.
@CosmicCleric
@CosmicCleric 6 месяцев назад
Is OpenWebRX+ a fork of OpenWebRX (without "plus")? If so, why did it fork?
@macgyverdj
@macgyverdj 6 месяцев назад
@@CosmicCleric It is a fork. It was forked because I am trying to retain a maintainable codebase for OpenWebRX, and therefor have not accepted certain changes to the code. The fork is basically just the easy way out, instead of improving the code and trying to work on solutions that the project actually needs, it just got stuffed with more new features, further degrading the quality and making it harder to maintain.

Hi Mat, great demo. This made me download the image and start experimenting with my PI 4B and RTL-SDR v3 dongle. The dongle is less accurate on frequency but it does the job. So far decoded wefax, RTTY, SSTV, APRS and catched some VHF and UHF repeaters and I've been listening to AM airband (Brussels). The RPI imager is very good indeed as you can set WIFI and SSH on the fly. Looking forward to new videos. 73 Phil ON4VP

cool. I finally have a use for my Raspberry Pi Zero 2W..... and yes it does work. Just downloaded the Raspberry Pi 4 image and put that on a 16Gb SD card. set the username, password, SSID wifi and password then wrote the image and then booted up the card in the mini Pi. I then logged into the router to see the ip address and put that into a browser, this all worked. Works with a RSP1A once i configured the antenna input. It does have occasional pauses in audio but nothing bad. So this spec is the bare minimal to run OpenWebRX. Overclocking the Pi Zero 2W to 1.1Ghz and upping the voltage to 2 removes the audio drop outs (in the web browser) but a heatsink on the cpu is reccomended. Great bit of work, I my put this in my garden shed (it has power) on my spare RSP1A as that would just work out of the box with no antenna configuration to do. this HAS to be the smallest SDR server out there. Now I am thinking of building a Pi Zero 2W into the case of the RSP1A so its a single box that just needs an antenna input and 5 volts.

I use webrx sometimes since few years with an rpi 3b+ and a sdrplay clone and it runs fine. I played with ft8 and ft4 and aprs and wonder that I received stations at 20/30/40/80m from the US east coast to Russia in Switzerland via a simple, old am antenna of my yamaha radio laying on the heating radiator.... and looking at the maps were the locations popping up is kind of fun. The cpu usage of course increases with more clients or wider bandwidth. I didnt find the configuration easy, but its easier with your video. The remote listening via internet didn't worked that well, I had often problems with the stream and had to lower the bandwidth. I didn't know about the pager, weather fax and car stuff, thats nice. Is AIS available as well? Instead the configuration via ssh you can connect the rpi to a monitor and keyboard and do it the old fashioned way.😊 Nice video, thanks.

I fired up this image on my RPI4, with the new RTL-SDR V4 dongle. After configure it up, to listen to airband I quickly realised there is limited options for tuning the frequency, or setting a new frequency without making a new item in the pre-defined settings. I hoped this would make tuning and searching easyer, just like the Kiwi SDR interface, but no. This could have been so much more with just a little extra tuning effort. The power is in all the decorders, but when there is no easy way to get around the frequency specter this just become pointless. Or, Do I really do something wrong here? Need some pointers, pls.

I just tested it, and unfortunately there some issues. It does not handle more than 2Msps. 2Msps works fine, but at 3, 4 it super choppy. Despite CPU usage not being a problem. at 8Msps, it completely stops. It also does not like more than 8K FFT bins either. (This is on a high end multi core desktop PC, running Linux). And there are some other design issues, like curently it does not allow scrolling easily through profiles, only what is setup in profiles. I am not sure if Python is a great tool for this, as it can be quite slow. Also it is rather hard to setup two receivers of the same type, as it can open them randomly, and assign different names, etc. But it is very promising, and most of the problems can be fixed.

Openwebrx has improved a lot but SSB audio quality is poor, there is a tearing sound, I hear it in the beginning of this video on 40m, tearing or distrotion autio, there are artefacts if you listen, this does not exist on the Kiwi SDR. The Kiwi SSB audio quality is far better. The kiwi can see all 30 Mhz which is pretty neat and up to 4 people can have individual control over the receiver, impossible with openwebrx. If you're more into digital decoding then the openwebrx is probably mosre suited but for me the Kiwi is just miles better for SWL and HAM use.

I remember Slow Scan TV.. When first introduced in the late 1960s. Before anybody really had their own, black-and-white TV cameras. And you got one TV picture frame. Every few seconds. And it was sort of like, FAX TV. Almost like waiting a few minutes to see each individual picture frame. There was a Star Trek episode like that. So it must be true. As I have been running, Quality Control. Throughout my life career. Starting with Star Trek in 1966 when I was in 6 grade. So put that all together and you get 6 6 6. When I got in on the ground floor with Star Trek.. And did the first comedy routine, in the world. Yes that's right. I did. It was 1966, I was a 6 grade. We still had show and tell. And I get up in front of the class. Look at everybody. Pulled out my wallet from my back pocket. Flipped it open. And said beam me up! Before that was a thing. In 1966. I started that routine. Using my wallet. To simulate my communicator. And who was doing that in 1966? Only, me. In the 6th Grade. Because I knew. I would later become, Lieut. Cmdr. Montgomery Scott in real life. For, NBC-TV & Radio in Washington DC. The same network that, Kirk, Spock,, McCoy and Scotty, all worked for as did I. Only they were canceled after 3 years. I didn't retire until after 20. And I retired, Going Into Darkness. So don't tell me I don't know what's going on here! I will beam out.. Unless Donnie stops grabbing my pussy! I mean what is with this guy? Maybe he needs his own? As I paid a lot of money for mine. And wonder why I didn't do it sooner. Like when I was 15. Instead of 30. But they would never allow that to happen! They want children to commit suicide. Just so they can be right! As they had a conversation with Jesus. And Jesus told him their child should be dead. Well I don't think so! Listen to your children. We know who we are. Do you? Why are you listening to politicians and crackpots? And hurting your children. Just to be right? Any parent who tries to straighten out their gay or trans youngster. Should go to jail. They are trying to defy God. Why? Are they better than God? They obviously think so. They believe they should, hurt children in God's name. Who's going to stop them? Marjorie Taylor Greenemold? I think not. She encourages that. Because she knows better! She had an exercise studio. For ladies. So they could pump up and prove their femininity. Yeah doggy! WOOF WOOF! WOOF!! Bark! We are going to rock and roll and Hump Around the Clock! RemyRAD

So this is basically, Internet ham radio game? It's make pretend ham radio. It's, Beyond Amateur, Amateurs. It's for those that can't afford a, $25, ham radio walkie-talkie from, Boo Fang or someone? And you don't have enough money for that. You get to pretend ham radio on the Internet for free! What's on the server? If it's Friday? It's fish. And chips and transistors. If the server is busy. You have to wait. To order your pizza. And you have choices. The 20 meter club. Talks about drugs. The 40 meter club. Talks about the stock market. The 80 meter club. Talks about long, passed ham operator buddies. The 160 meter club.…… Can't remember what to talk about. Except arthritis. Whereas the 10 meter set. Got the jump on the 11 meter kids. They talk about anarchy. The 6 meter club talks about the old, Channel-2 Television interference. And the folks at the 2 meter club. Can now hear their sarcasm more clearly. Because it's FM. And now all concentrated on the Internet. Making pretend you are dealing with, solar and atmospheric electromagnetic wave propagation and skip and no skip. Making pretend you are ham operators. How cool is that? No need for code. Both moral and Morse. I remember before the Internet. Over 50 years ago. When I was but a teenager. When ham radio wasn't any fun. Because it was just dots and dashes. And you can barely put together five words per minute!. Even a drunk behind the wheel can do better than that! And people don't like it when they use their horn with Morse code. When they are drinking and driving. And going,… Seeks Q. Seeks Q. Susie Q. When they hit something and died. And had to use the Internet. Because radio waves ain't no good no more, no how, no way, hey hey. Hey. We used to have something like this. When I was a teenager in the early 1970s. We would pick up our newfangled, Touch Tone Phone at Home. And dial something other than, 411. Dialing, 211, 711, 811. Connected you to an empty trunk line at the phone company switching station. And when it was silent. You would hear all these other people in the background. Hey where are you!? We are over in Berkeley. I'm in Royal Oak. We should meet at the mall. What do you look like? And we would make new hookups like that. With kids from other schools in the area. With this newfangled telephone social networking. On dead empty trunk lines. It was cool! Then they started fighting against them. And including stupid recordings. But in between the beginning and the end of the recording. There would be like 10 or 15 seconds of silence. And we would start quickly throwing codewords around. G Mall in 20! And so on and so forth. And That going for a few years. 55 years ago. But one day, it was completely thwarted by the phone company. Around 1973. But that was okay. Because then. We got CB Radios! Breaker! Breaker! Good buddies! What's your, 20? See any Smokies? Breaker! Breaker! How about a Radio Check?! It was a blast and a, half. Before the stupid Internet. We had to create our own fun. It wasn't preprogrammed. It wasn't even Networked. It was scattered. Scattered chatter. To see how far we could go. With our Electromagnetic Waves, flying through the air at the speed of light. It was Awesome. And so I find this Internet derivation of ham radio. Kind of a copout. It's not real. It's more virtual nonsense. That doesn't really exist, in the real world. It's a Virtual Fake. It's an, Emulation of what once, was.. It's an apparition. It's Zombie Radio. It does not excite me. There is nothing really there. And now with AI. How do we know there's even a person there? You might be talking to Chat GPT? And think it's a person. Then where are we? What are we? Are we a simulation of ourselves? The physicists say, yes. We are simulation. Funny? I don't feel like a simulation. I feel like an actual person. It's the scientists that aren't real. I've seen this episode before. It was either Outer Limits, Science Fiction Theater or the Twilight Zone. And so it must be real. A real simulation of our lives. Now what do we do? I feel terribly, Simulated. I feel re-simulated and de-simulated. Where do I go from here? Either? Plasma? Electromagnetic wave essence? I'm not feeling myself anymore. Somebody else is feeling me. I think it's Donnie? I'm feeling a hand grabbing at my pussy. Is this also a simulation or a stimulation? What's the difference? How does a simulation get pregnant? How does that work? Does the fetus know it's a simulation? Who's going to tell it? It could have a disastrous impact on its not yet life. It might come out sideways? Then what do they do? Kill the woman to save the fetus? That sounds logical. That's what women were meant to do. Die in childbirth. And have to be forced to! Because the baby is far more important! As she is only a woman. We don't need more of those. It's a man's world! And men want to get it on with other men! Because it's a man's world. The male Orthodox Jews all danced together. Not with the women. Who must remain upstairs. And never soil the men. Because only women bleed. And that is nasty and inferior of them. So they must remain upstairs and separate from the men. Who like dancing together. Because they are men. So a lot of Jewish men who are extremist Orthodox are, gay closet cases. And they wear long frocks and big velvet hats. They look really sexy. With, their, circumcisions. And let it all hang out. They are groovy, keen, cool, outta site! They are circumcised! And no more, Smegma. Like uncut guys have. Ugh! Ladies how can you stand that? You don't want no, Smegma. Go with a guy who's a Cut Above. With no smegma. You'll be glad you did. As nobody is really impressed with a Prince Albert anymore. It's not even cool at a nude beach. Oh my God Frank! What the hell? Betty likes it. Betty likes it? Why? Get anything else you want pierced. FUCK Prince Albert and Andrew! RemyRAD

I didn't read your comment, but I think you need to talk to someone and get some help. To bring the topic back to the video, the software doesn't emulate anything. It shares an actual SDR receiver to others around the world via the internet.
