I once heard a couple of opera singers perform this in a New York subway station during rush hour. And the world slowed down for just a few minutes. And when they finished, the roar of applause and encores rivalled that of any opera house! To this day I still consider this song one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.

I've heard this duet performed by MANY soprano's. But these two ABSOLUTELY are pitch perfect for each other. They compliment one another so well it's unbelievable.

It appears to me (expert that I am not) that their vibratos and dynamics are in perfect sync. I mean, how do people DO that??? It seems that Anna is the pacer and Elina adapts to her. Notice how Elina occasionally looks at Anna's mouth for visual cues.

Those two women, artists in highest levels incorporate such an exvclusive companionship while singing. I LOVE, how they listen each other, and melt their singing together to let it individualize again and again. This is non - ego singing in highest culture. Thanks a lot !

Do you not know what the the Ukrainians have been doing to East Ukraine for 8 years and how American politicians backed it with money and weapons beginning with a violent coup in Maidan? I can listen to Joy Division one minute then Buddy Holly the next, flit from Motorhead to John Denver or the Dead Kennedys to the Dubliners. It's all about what moves your soul and for me one of the best pieces in a classical theme must be Agnus Dei by Samuel Barber, it's basically a choral version of Adagio For Strings, but you probably already know that 😉😍

I think metal is a natural progression of classical. Just added electrical distortion. You can’t tell me that Bach’s Tocatta and Fugue isn’t metal. That’s as hard as a guy could get in early 1700’s. Same with the intro to Carmina Burana. Metal usually features instrumentalists that are always pushing the envelope of playing and skill, advancing what can be done with the instrument. Some classical composers back in the day REQUIRED the absolute best instrumentalists in order to play the music right

¡BRAVA!!! Such grace, such beauty, such incredible emotion! And this brings back a wonderful memory - of when I actually heard this piece performed nearly as flawlessly several years ago, in a tiny backcountry chapel in a tiny Maine town, by a woman and her mother, who were both from that town. The woman was home for summer vacation - from her position with the New York Opera! She was an incredible soprano, and her mother was a perfectly-matched mezzo. I hadn't expected anything like this at all, but had tears streaming down my face and was totally speechless after they concluded to thunderous applause.

I just stumbled on to this piece by accident and it brought me back to a childhood memory with my mother and I. She loved her classical music which she used to play often. Such happy times back then. My dearly departed mother passed away a year and a half ago at the age of 61. She was the other half of my heart and soul and I'm so lost without her. This music has brought me to tears again. Mum and I had an extreme life and not in a good way that's why I lost my faith in religion a long time ago but if there is such a place called heaven l hope she's there dancing with the angels and listening to this beautiful piece of music. Rest in peace my beautiful mum. No words can express the love I have for you and I hope we will be together again one day.

This is probably one of the most beautiful duets ever written, and I agree that these two perform it very well. I think, however, that the soprano occasionally comes through a little too strong. There is a recording available on RU-vid by two French singers, Sabine Devieilhe and Marianne Crebassa, who are even more in sync.

I have seen the brunette diva at the Met in several operas. She is otherworldly live. Sadly she is publicly standing with Putin in his abhorrent war against Ukraine. Her aggressive stance has pretty much ruined her stellar career. It saddens me, but sadly she made her bed of nails and she chose to lye in it.

I usually listen to today's pop music, although I have learned about classical music a lot in school. But this song gave me a feeling of real beauty and perfection. It is hard to describe.... it is REAL music, it is magical, smooth, overwhelming, somehow more and bigger like everyday life and struggles. Hearing these talented singers and musicians makes me feel so good. I am grateful for you. I wish I could go to the opera to hear it personally.

Много раз слышала этот дуэт,несколько раз слушала именно в этом исполнении.Так завораживает.И контраст этих певиц и сочетание их голосов.Это пение должно звучать где-то в ночи над рекой Ганг.Под звёздами,над зеркальной водой.Вот так как они уходят вглубь сцены,так и над рекой звуки будут отражаться от воды и улетать в ночь,к звёздам.Как в волшебном сне.

I first came to this duet some years ago when British Airways used a clip for their advert. The combination of these two voices I think is the most magical of all of the voice combinations and always brings a tear of joy to my eyes just to hear the genius of Delibes perfect combination.

Superbe association et magnifique complémentarite de deux voix merveilleuses. Anna Netreko et Elina Garanca nous offrent la plus belle version que je connaisse . Je viens de la decouvrir et je suis emu par tant de beauté: beauté des deux sopranos et beaute de leurs voix..Bravo bravo Merci

Reponse a Spikulu: j'ai ecoute au moins 10 fois ce duo interprété par Sabine Devieilhe - Marianne Crebassa d'une pzrt et par Anna Netrebko- Elina Garanca d'autre part. Ma preference va au duo Russe- Lettone car je trouve qu'elles interpretent ce morceau avec plus de facilite et d'aisance. On a l'impression qu'elles chantent sans effort ce qui convient parfaitement a ce duo. Anna Netrebko et Elina Gatanca ont tres souvent chanté ensemble ce qui explique la belle complémentarité et le juste équilibre entre soprano et mezzo soprano. Ceci dit j'apprécie Sabine Devieilhe et Marianne Crebassa que j'ecoute souvent et que j'espère entendre un jour sur scène.

I can't claim to know anything much about Opera. If there is a piece recorded akin to this, I would love it hear it. As of this hearing, this is the most lovely performance of this piece I have heard.

Beautiful beyond words to express. In the midst of the Human depravity of war here we hear such exquisite beauty that only our hearts can appreciate. Это два гения , такие таланты очень редко рождаются на планете ! Совсем недавно у Анны возникла большая неприятность на фоне этой чёртовой политики , но будем надеется что всё пройдёт !

Этот жуэто был исполнен достатрчно лавно. Сейчас Анна, к сожалению, и выглядит уже не так, и голос не тот стал. В погоне за драматическим репертуаром (и, следовательно, деньгами) ее голос "обабился", стал звучать вульгарно и качаться, утратил звучание серебристого колокольчика лирико-колоратурного сопрано. Место Анны на мировой сцене сейчас заняла Аида Гарифуллина и по свежести голоса, и по возрасту-внешности. Жаль, раньше Анна Нетребко была и правда восхитительна.
