A singer to consider for a reaction is Melody Cristea of the band Liliac (Lil-ee-ack) Her major vocal influence is a singer you already reacted to Ronnie James Dio, so you know she's incorporated rasp into her vocals, in addition she has some stratospheric high-pitched screams in her vocal arsenal that are on full display in Liliac's latest release "Not Afraid Extended Version." Next Haley reaction has to be her recently released "I Put a Spell on You" This is Haley at her sassy brassy best, and she definitely put a spell on me with this rendition.
The more I hear this young lady sing, the more I fall in love with her. Her talent, her style and amazing improv ability and her beautiful presentation either on video or on stage. Haley Reinhart, she is a treasure. Good job Maggie.
I saw her in Atlanta. Truly a very classy lady. She held a meet and greet before concert. I have totally fell in love with her. The classy, sultry siren. Beautiful soul.
There are so many good singers out there, doing this sort of thing, but Hayley is one of the handful who really stand out. Great analysis Maggie - thanks.
Have always loved Haley, first with Post Modern Jukebox then her solo career. With her covers of "Seven Nation Army" and "All About That Bass" with Ariana Savalas and Morgan James can draw you in.
To me, she is an old style torch singer. Smoky, cabaret, classic singing, I just love her everything: style, look, voice, hair, everything in one lovely package.
I've met Haley before and Casey a couple times. Actually hung out with both of them for a bit of an afternoon. Haley's super sweet, super chill and quick to smile. She never fails to entertain as well
Loved her voice when she was on Idol. When she sang the House of the Rising Sun it was mind-blowing. The arrangement and her voice were possibly the best cover of that song. She did an awesome job singing Wild Horses with Myles Kennedy.
Haley with a new Live "I Put a Spell on You" is out there and it is fantastic!!! This is just so....mesmerizing..yes you said it too!!! That was something different...Also Her Live from Chess records with just her father on guitar, 2 songs 1 original. Amazing!
Hi, Maggie reacted to the first half (song) of this video, on one of her weekend twitch live streams. www.twitch.tv/maggiereneemusic Sadly it has not made it to the RU-vid channel yet. :)
Thank you Maggie! You do GREAT reviews. You weren’t my cup of tea when you first began reviewing but I have come to love your review work and your performance work. Yes, Haley is a treasure, I was greatly surprised when she was bumped from that “talent show”.
Ice cream sundae, but warm? Like a hot fudge sundae 😊❤? Beautiful song and beautiful reaction! A recent PMJ release is Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” ft. Caity Gyorgy in a really jazzy style. It’s amazing! (Like they all are!)
A very EXTRA performance! Not just a cover but an interpretation. Love those ornaments. (Types a 5) And I loved your reaction, feeling the song along with Haley. And me of course. ❤
I love Haley also. I though she could have very well won the competition. But it seems that public opinion is like the wind, it moves in ways that we can't always predict - and it swung towards the country side that year. I love country also, but Haley was one (correction is) one of a kind. I'm back Maggie. I want to sponsor a video. I'll do it soon this next week.
I saw Elvis live in concert at Notre Dame, the year before he died - I was 9…an unforgettable showman…but this is my favorite cover of it by far. The commercial/video for Extra Gum is superb…Watch it! I think the vocal styling and such is even better…this version is superb also of course…but there are more vocal gymnastics in this version…and I’m a purist -so I think her “Extra” video is better. This version is a bit more improvised/ornamented.
Would LOVE for you to react to the exxt4a gum advertisement version. It's well worth it... and the vocals are slightly different as well as it was a separate recording.
Nice reaction Maggie, I'm glad you spoke about how singers bring about their ornamentation. Us other musicians do that too, but sometimes unconsciously. A red heart without Cupids arrow, when it hits what direction will it come from?
_"Elvis Presley classic that has seen many covers"_ ? you mean _"many _*_other_*_ covers"_ since (although it's one of his classics) it still is not *his* original, but 'only' one of the best known covers. Alan Papier has done lots of interesting videos about covers on his channel, detailing the history of songs, playing short clips of many of them. the original version of this song is in french, "plaisir d'amour" written in 1784 by Jean-Paul Martini, covers were done by many famous singers including Elvis, Joan Baez, Marianne Faithful, etc, and more recently also by Angelina Jordan. a completely different new and haunting version (an absolute "must watch", imho) is by Diana Ankudinova. and now, i'll watch this version and the reaction to it ...
Haley's platinum selling recording of "Can't Help Falling in Love" was released late October 2015 via a Wrigley's Extra Gum commercial, it was the rare radio ad 'jingle' that was so popular it got on radio via request (and no promotion other than the gum ad), then won a Clio Award in Advertising. Crazy Rich Asians was a 2018 movie. 2015 comes before 2018
Personally, I like an overly soft voice for a verse or two but not throughout the entire song, it gets boring to me. But my question is: do you think the video shows the actual recording of the song, or is this like a liosync post recording?
Her voice is very pretty, but this song is supposed to be very simple. There's far too many "ornaments" as you say. It's not making me emotional like so many other versions of the song. I think if she had sung it more simple I would've been a sobbing mess like I usually am when I hear it.
