As amazing as this performance is, here is a link to what many diehard fans consider to be her greatest and most powerful live performance. It is from her 1986 world tour. A live cover of The Dreamgirls song "I am changing" She unleashes the full weight of her powers for 10 minutes straight. It's part Broadway, part gospel/soul and part opera--all in one truly epic live performance (audio only, unfortunately) It is unbelievable. It may be the greatest live vocal performance ever captured on audio. It's almost scary. I challenge you to set aside 10 mins of undivided attention and put your headphones in (or blu-tooth on at full volume) You'll think an alien landed on earth, sang this song in front of a live audience, then returned to their home planet. Whitney took it to an almost superhuman level. I'd love to hear your reaction after listening. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FvWdnimqgeA.html

You should react to more of her live performances: A Quiet Place I Am Changing (San Francisco 1986) The Greatest Love Of All (Wembley) Porgy/And I Am Telling You/I Have Nothing I Have Nothing (billboard awards in red dress) He, I Believe (Japan 1991) All The Man I Need (Arsenio Hall Show) One Song (video is really bad but her vocals come through loud and clear ) There’s a reason she’s called The Voice

This video shows again how vital good breath control is. It's one of the biggest indicators of a good singer(technique-wise). Great analysis, I had never notice just how many little breaths she takes between words before you pointed it out. Her lungs and larynx were in perfect, untainted condition here, and can't you just hear it! - Clear as a bell, sweet as honey, but with the power to tame an orchestra. Simply divine! 😍 I'd love to have your analysis of her superlative control and use of vibrato as well. Apart from the depth and richness of her tone, her operatic vibrato was another area that set her apart from/above other singers. I don't think any other singer outside of classical had a vibrato to match her, I'd love to know just HOW she did it!

hi dear and thanks for your video. i was so fortunate to be able to attend her concert in Milan in 1988. When you said "a pretty voice" i kinda laughed for a second. that voice to this day is the greatest, most amazing voice i have ever heard in my life (live). And believe me, i have almost seen them all. There was particularly a passage between high C , C sharp and D that was absolutely unique in the whole world. There was a quality and richness to that voice that no record or video can make justice to. There was a vibration and harmonics in that voice absolutely inexplicable but that hit you to the very core. Particularly when she was pronouncing the vowel "i" on those very high notes. One again, to this day to me she is unparalleled. I always believe that she was connected to sound, she was a unique talent

Her rendition of "I Have Nothing" will always remain as one of her most emotive and powerful performances. I wasn't her biggest fan, but was in high school when she broke in the mid '80's. Who didn't have a crush on her - especially NJ boys? It still saddens me to think how she fell and like so many in her field before her fell. Such a magnetic talent and such a waste of that talent. I'm still bummed she's not around. She like so many others should be.

Whitney's voice is a human treasure. Dead or alive, she is for sure the best female voice in music history. Whitney Houston was a born star. she was a gift from mother Nature The golden standard of a females voice. everyone wishes they could sound like her, men and women. The world's greatest singer. Whitney is a master of all the techniques, 1) resonance, 2) Vibrato, 3) Colorature 4)inflections 5) scaling up and down 6) natural 7)falsetto or soft soprano for a woman 8) throat, diaphram and head singing 9) Crescendo and decrescendo and breath control 10) staccato and perfect diction

I am a gospel singer I pray and put God first and when I do that, I can go as high as the sky I love to sing, and give praises to my God I never had voice training I always wanted to but could not afford it. I am 74 years old and I still sing like I used to sing when I was younger than 74 I thank and praise God for my talent and my gift. Amen.

This is the best reaction ever from someone who actually knows what she is talking about... not that "honest vocal coach" from England Georgina. Everything she is reacting to Whitneys videos, she does those funny faces and criticises Whitneys technique

Great reaction - always great when people knows about singing and can give their perspective. I adore this performance. One of my all time favorites - why - It's simple and beautiful and she doesn't try to do too much or oversing it. Such a shame that this voice is silenced forever, nothing like it!

Wow im so much more informed on Whitney's technique. Thank you for this amazing video. I know alot have recommended songs for you to react to but id love it if you'd an analysis of "No More Tears" Enough is Enough by Babara Streisand & Donna Summers. Its a perfect fit giving your operatic background like opera or broadway meets disco. Id really appreciate it and youd be the first to give an in depth analysis on it. 🙏🏽

@@jessicasopranonotes please compare the song home of first tv performance of whitney vs whitney's version of home of live concert in South Africa for the celebration of Nelson Mandela. Those two are wow, at least for me. If you do, please select the version of home of whitney in South Africa where she had little speech before started to sing cause there is another version where they just cut her little speech and go straight to the song. The speech is full of emotions and makes me understand the song of home itself. Sorry i ask too much.

Dude, I don't know if you know just how HELPFUL your videos are. I feel like all I really find on RU-vid are very repetitive and vague explanations of super basic techniques. You take it to the next level and it is much appreciated! I love to see videos like this explaining the more subtle but vital techniques the greats have used. I would really like to see you analyzing some real OGs like Aretha! Thank you!

I think the reason why she took so many breaths in between the verses is because this live version has a slower tempo than the records. She had to support the phrases hehe
