Guru Govind singhji did not use Golden temple as a hideout. Bhindranwale too should not have used it as a battlefield. Thousands of pilgrims come to Golden temple for pilgrimage. If he was really brave,he should have taken control of Qila Gobind Garh and fight from there.

Interesting how Bhinderwale was simply not assassinated at anytime he was outside the Golden Temple. His movements were open and fully known to all agencies. Bhinderwale would openly go out and preach in villages across Punjab. In-fact several months before operation Blue Star Bhinderwale traveled thousands of miles by road from Amritsar to Mumbai, which took weeks in both directions. He walked around freely within Punjab and across India. If he was such a threat he could have easily been assassinated at any time. Yet it was chosen to attack the Golden Temple during a key religious festival when Sikhs were attending in extra large numbers resulting in the death of thousands of men, women and children gathered there for worship and full scale destruction.

So true, Indra Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi hand picked and promoted Bhinderwala against Akali Dal.
